Monday Madness – 12/7/2015

Wow, with a very busy schedule last week, I really needed a Sunday just to sit in my sewing room and relax with my crafts.  I got a lot done yesterday.

For Allietare, I got 3 sets of this week’s clue completed.

In between, some of the sets, I got a few of those top two rows pieced together for Celtic Solstice (Bonnie’s mystery quilt-a-long from 2013).

I got the last two leaves on for Raining Cats and Dogs and prepped it for the first cat! 🙂  I’ve been waiting a long time to get that cat on and I’m sew very excited to almost be done with this block.

As you can see, the pink flower on the top right is complete now.  I’m working on getting the letter “M” finished and then I”ll work on the bottom part.

I got all the background quilted for Tell It To The Stars.  Now I’ve changed threads and I’m working on quilting the dark blue parts of the quilt.  I’m not loving the quilting.  I’m actually really mad at the mid arm and the frame.  It pulls and is hard to move in certain parts of the frame.  It also needs to be seriously cleaned.  I did my best before I started quilting Tell It To The Stars but now I see that it really needs to be professionally serviced.  I’m going to start saving for a new frame because once the mid arm is cleaned, I think a new frame will help me.  But that’s not going to happen anytime soon so I’ll continue using what I’ve got.  In the meantime, I need to use easy meandering quilting and not try to do anything more complicated that that.  I probably should continue to watch youtube videos and look to see what other Bailey owners feel about their machines.

I’m looking forward to a great week!

  1. I’ve a feeling Allietare is going to end up being my favorite mysteries from Bonnie! I love the color tones you have selected. I am saving clues, but this is the worst time of year and i must focus on Christmas!

  2. Nice work going on, Melanie! I’m excited that you’re getting your Celtic Solstice together as well as starting up Allietare. It’s going to be really neat!

  3. So sorry to hear you are having trouble with your mid arm. I have a love hate relationship with my 18″. When it runs well it is a total dream. When it doesn’t, well that’s another story. I computerized it last year so I’ve added another layer of issues. Sigh. But I do get a lot of quilting done since I’ve had her.

  4. oh nice to see someone else doing the mystery quilt….I am not but I am so curious as to how it will turn out!! It is interesting seeing how you do your cross stitch by completely finishing one section before moving on to the next….I always leave the backstitch highlighting until I am completely finished. Thanks for linking up with and showing the link in your post….much appreciated!

  5. Lots of great progress on things. I Love the blue plaid cat on the block. Just a thought, but have you investigated the cost of a used longarm? A good one from a dealer might be surprisingly affordable – not the fancy ones, but a 20-year old Nolting would be a good solid machine, for instance. And probably around $4000 from a dealer.

  6. Wow Melanie! You have so much going on and have made a lot of progress. I am so bad at mystery quilts – I always feel like I have more time than I really do… 🙂 Sorry about the issues with your machine – I hope you get them fixed soon. Thanks so much for sharing on Main Crush Monday, have a great week!
