Yoga 2016

yoga 2

I’ve been doing yoga on and off now for the last 4 years.

I really got into it the year I spent in Northern California because my cousin introduced me to a studio that is absolutely amazing.  If you are in the area, check out Xplore Yoga.  Since that experience, I found that having yoga as part of my regular exercise really helps me mentally and emotionally as well as the normal physical benefits to any exercise routine.  One of the benefits for me is that I get great sleep and I normally have a terrible time getting to sleep.  So when I moved back to Los Angeles, I made an effort to find a similar studio.  I didn’t find one.  But, one of my besties goes to a studio and I find that it is easier for me to go when I’m meeting up with a friend.  So now I’m a part of that studio.  And I have an accountability partner.  Despite this, it was still difficult for me to attend classes regularly.  I would often go once every 10 days or so.  For 2016, one of my non-crafty goals is to go 5 times a week.  I know for someone who rarely goes even once a week, 5 times is a lot.  Here’s the thing… it’s a goal.  I want to work my way up to 5 times.  In my weird head, I start every week with the intention to go 5 times.  I look at my commitments and make a plan as to which days I need to go in order for me to meet my 5 x goal.  And, unfortunately, I haven’t yet met it.

But, hey, it’s only the end of week 3 so that’s not horrible.  Here’s my status so far.  Keep in mind that I didn’t officially start until week 2 so there’s only 2 weeks to bring up.

I’m hoping that by tracking this here, and reporting it to the world, I will eventually get to my goal of regularly going to yoga 5 times per week.

  • week 2 – 3 times
  • week 3 – 2 times

This upcoming week I’ll be at Road2CA so we’ll see if I’ll be able to attend any classes this week.  I do keep extra yoga clothes and my mat in my car at all times so I have no excuse not to go if I find a studio near Road.  Since I’m not actually staying in the area but travelling back and forth, this might be a way for me to kill time as I wait for traffic to die down before heading back home from a class.  The studio has several locations so I’m hoping that they have one near Road.

There are different kinds of yoga and I find I like some more than others.  But in general I like them all.  I do hot yoga and I enjoy Vinyasa or Ashtanga yoga the best.  Unfortunately, I haven’t found a studio around where I live that does this in a hot studio.  I know that there are probably a ton in West LA or all around LA but I’m not near West LA and I will not drive that far to go to yoga.  The studio I go to does not do Vinyasa or Ashtanga yoga so it’s one of the drawbacks of the studio.  I’m okay with that for now because I really just want to get a routine around going to yoga and having a friend to go it will help me get that routine.  Once that’s in place, maybe I’ll look for a studio that has the kind of yoga I want.  In the meantime, one thing at a time. 🙂
