QuiltCon 2016! Day One

To see all the winners and pictures of the quilts, visit the MQG blog.

There is something completely different about seeing the quilts live.  Some of them do not look nearly as nice as the pictures portray them to be.  Some of them look absolutely stunning while the pictures do not do them justice.

Here are the fun highlights from today:

  1. Their app is amazing!  It has the full schedule and my schedule on it.  It has a map and you can click on the workshop or lecture or demonstration and click on a button to find where it is on the map.  It has a few other stuff but those are the two things I used it for and I loved it.
  2. Diversity.  There were a lot more younger people, people of color, and men (not just husbands in tow).  I’m assuming they quilt too. 🙂
  3. It’s in Pasadena. Closer to me so I don’t have to get a hotel room.
  4. I took one lecture – Color Theory for Modern Quilters with Kim Eichler-Messmer and it was AWESOME!  I learned a lot from her and I’m inspired to challenge myself using the color principles she shared.

I’m not sure I’ll be going tomorrow.  I saw all the quilts and I don’t have a class or anything so I don’t know if I’ll want to brave the traffic.  However, I do want to see the ladies of Hobbies Up To Here.  So if they happen to be doing something tomorrow… I may drop by.

Or maybe I’ll stay home and quilt!

  1. That’s really great! I suspected that in Savannah I’d be a minority of few in my older age category. =) I’m really a traditionalist, but I do like some modern quilts, so I’d like to see a show for myself. And get buttons. =)
