      Raining Cats and Dogs
      Hand Quilting
      May 23, 2016

… done… and I don’t know why it took me so long to get started.  I’m enjoying it and my new goal is to quilt one arm length of thread every day.

  2. Hand work – Work a bit on A Rainbow Garden … not done
  3. Knit – keep working on the Rosie Hat … done and it’s finished!  I’ll post a pic as soon as I can.
  4. Cross Stitch – work on the embroidery for the top border and the second row of the 1st page of Farmland! … the top border of the Welcome project is done and I’m not working on the right border.  I didn’t get the second row done, I was able to get a bit of it worked one and I will continue to try to get it done this week.
  5. Moon Glow – Check with my local sewing machine store about renting out their long arm. … decided to not do this and quilt on my Bailey.
  6. Missing Ivy – Step 11, which is piecing the inner top together. … didn’t get this done. I discovered I made a mistake on Step 10 and I’m debating internally whether to fix it or live with it.
  7. Celtic Solstice – put together pieces of Block B as leaders and enders between working on Missing Ivy … not done… I didn’t touch the machine this week as I’ve been working a lot on hand projects.
  8. Spooky Halloween – Row 1, Block 1 – Finish applique’ing the hexis onto the background and applique the bat. …done… to be featured on my next TGIF post! 🙂

This week’s to do list:

  1. Raining Cats and Dogs … hand quilt an arm length of thread every day.
  2. Hand work – Work a bit on A Rainbow Garden
  3. Knit – Pick a new project, pick the yarn, read through the materials/pattern, and assuming it’s a craftsy class.  Start watching the lessons.
  4. Cross Stitch – For the Welcome project finish the embroidery on the right border and for Bukid, finish the second row of the 1st page!
  5. Moon Glow – This is now on the frame and I would just like to do a row of quilting every day.
  6. Missing Ivy – Step 11, which is piecing the inner top together. Yay
  7. Celtic Solstice – put together pieces of Block B as leaders and enders between working on Missing Ivy

  9. Provence BOM – Block 10

I’m still working on the first block for Spooky Halloween.  My goal was to get a block a week done to stay on track and so now I’m behind.  But, I’m okay to let that goal slide.  I really want to enjoy the process of making this project so I’m okay with being behind here. 7. Celtic Solstice – put together pieces of Block B as leaders and enders between working on Missing Ivy … not done
  8. Spooky Halloween – Row 1, Block 1 – I got some of the hexis done.  I still need to finish 2 hexis and then applique it onto the background and finish it up with an applique’d bat. … not done…

Spooky Halloween Row 1, Block 1 In progress 5/9/2016

Spooky Halloween
Row 1, Block 1
In progress
5/9/2016

I started working on the first block of Spooky Halloween.  First, I cut the fabric and hand pieced the hexis together.  I have 2 hexis left to piece.  Then I’ll applique them onto the background fabric.  I would really like to get this block done this week.  The blocks will be 6.5″ unfinished.  My goal for this project is to finish a block each week. Since there are 5 blocks per row, I’d like to get 2 done in one of the weeks.

Last week’s to do list:

  1. Raining Cats and Dogs … Finish the machine quilting on this on my domestic and get going on hand quilting this baby… done
  2. Hand work – Work a bit on A Rainbow Garden …  done
  3. Knit – keep working on the Rosie Hat … not done
  4. Cross Stitch – work on the embroidery for the top border and the first row of the 1st page of Farmland! …  done
  5. Moon Glow – I don’t think I’ll be working on this this week. I want to focus on Raining Cats and Dogs, so I’ll probably skip this this week … not done
  6. Missing Ivy – Same – I want to focus on Raining Cats and Dogs so I’ll skip this this week … I actually worked a bit on this this weekend and finished step 10
  7. Celtic Solstice – Same – I want to focus on Raining Cats and Dogs so I’ll skip this this week … I pieced together some bits…

  2. Hand work – Work a bit on A Rainbow Garden

This week’s line up, Week 19

happy-mothers-day

Happy Mother’s Day Weekend!

Woohoo!  I love special weekends like this because I get to do what I want and this year I get to spend ALL weekend in my sewing room guilt free.  Of course, we are planning on having dinner somewhere nice tonight.  But we avoid crowds so tomorrow I’ll be home avoiding people who are not my family or online friends. 🙂  Maybe I can convince the girl to sew with me. 🙂

Here’s my crafty plan for the next few days:

  1. Finish machine quilting Raining Cats and Dogs.  And get started with the hand quilting.
  2. Start on the new ROM Spooky Halloween.
    1. spooky_halloween
  3. Step 10 on Missing Ivy.

Missing Ivy through step 9 4/23/16

    Missing Ivy
    through step 9
    4/23/16

  4. Work on Block B’s for Celtic Solstice.  everything is organized so my plan is to put these together as Leaders/Enders while I’m doing other projects.
  5. And if I have time…
    1. put together the new hand quilting frame I bought from DezertSuz’ friend.  I wonder if I can throw Raining Cats and Dogs on it even though I’ve already machine pieced parts of it? hmmm….
    2. cross stitch a bit
    3. knit a bit
    4. work on my wool project a bit
A Rainbow Garden Block 4 in progress 4/19/2016

Block 4 in progress
4/19/2016

And because I’m me and I’ve been working on the same current projects over and over, I’m bored now.  If Spooky Halloween doesn’t inspire me, I may have to do something different this weekend.  I’m thinking a bag since it’s a small project.  In fact, I may do that before anything else.  I do want a small finish for this weekend.

Have a great quilty Saturday!

Monday Madness – 5/2/2016

I spent most of my crafty time last week dealing with quilting Raining Cats and Dogs. I really hope to get this part done this week and get started hand quilting.

Last week’s to do list:

  1. Raining Cats and Dogs … Start the machine quilting on this on my domestic. … done
  2. Hand work – Work a bit on A Rainbow Garden …  I’d love Love LOVE to get Block 4 done this week.  I’ve got a bit more to do on the centers of the flowers but they’re tiny and I hope that I’ll be able to finish them up. … not done
  3. Knit – keep working on the Rosie Hat …not done
  4. Cross Stitch – work on the embroidery for the top border and the first row of the 1st page of Farmland! … I did work on this a bit last week but I didn’t get the embroidery done for the top border or get the first column done on the 1st page of Farmland.  I’ve been watching some youtube videos of cross stitching which is very interesting.
  5. Moon Glow – throw the practice pieces onto the frame and figure out my machine with the thread and bobbing and work out any tension issues. … not done.
  6. Missing Ivy – If I’m machine quilting Raining Cats and Dogs on my Bernina, I will not be able to work on Missing Ivy.  So… I moved this and Celtic Solstice to the bottom of this list.  If I get the machine quilting done (doubt it), I would like to get to step #10 and finish up those 4 corners.  … not done.
  7. Celtic Solstice – work on piecing the bits for Block B while I’m working on step #10 for Missing Ivy. …  not done.

Missing Ivy through step 9 4/23/16

Missing Ivy
through step 9
4/23/16

I didn’t get as much craftiness done this weekend as I thought I would get.  But I’m really happy with where Missing Ivy is ATM.  It would seem that it is almost done.  I need to do the 4 corners.  BUT it isn’t.  I snuck a peek at what’s coming next and it looks like I’ve got borders to do.  5 more steps.  That’s okay.  I am enjoying how this quilt is coming along.  Everyone has had kind words about this quilt pattern and if you go into my project page, you’ll see that this is Judy Laquidara’s Road to Brenham pattern of PatchworkTimes.com.  I don’t always reference the designer when I’m working on the quilt and posting my updates but I like to put it on my project’s page for proper credit.

Last week’s to do list:

  1. baste Raining Cats and Dogs ….done…
  2. Hand work – Work a bit on A Rainbow Garden …  done
  3. Knit – keep working on the Rosie Hat … done

  6. Cross Stitch – keep working on the embroidery for the welcome project and get started on Farmland! … done

The thread from Massdrop cost me about $73 so that ate up a bunch of my budget.  But I won’t be buying thread for a long time.  I think this year, I went from buying fabric to buying thread.  I do like having a lot of thread choices.

Spent this week: $73.09

Spent year to date: $2765.52

For the yarn stash:

Still reporting the same thing for yarn… I got a little bit of knitting done this week.  But the Rosie hat is still not finished.

This week’s line up, Week 17

Wow!  What is the plan this weekend?  This week flew by fast and I’m just happy to have a day.

Here’s my crafty plan for the day:

  1. Get started on quilting Raining Cats and Dogs.
  2. Finish Step 9 on Missing Ivy. I’m almost done.
    1. Missing Ivy Step 9 4/20/2016

      Missing Ivy
      Step 9
      4/20/2016

I pieced the right sides together but when I started piecing the left side found that I pressed the middle pieces the wrong way so my seam is not nesting properly.  I need to do some pressing magic before I can finish piecing the left side.

  3. I need to finish pressing Block A’s for Celtic Solstice.  Right now Block A’s are taking up two bins because the pressed set are in 1 bin and the to-be-pressed set are in a 2nd bin.  I need the 2nd bin to put my in progress Block B’s for proper organization.  Right now they’re just dumped in the same bin as all the pieces and it’s driving my OCD mind crazy.  So I had to put it away for now.  In order for me to start working on it again, I need to organize it better and the first part of that organization is to press the remaining Block A’s so I can free up the 2nd bin. 🙂
  4. And if I have time…
    1. cross stitch a bit
    2. knit a bit
    3. work on my wool project a bit
A Rainbow Garden Block 4 in progress 4/19/2016
