Mystery Clue of the Month through PatchworkTimes.com
Beginning January 2014 – December 2014
Finished at 78″ x 97″.
Finished quilted and bound – 2/20/2016
See Judy’s Description on her site for complete details.
Fabric is 100% cotton hand dyed from Vicki Welsh.
I started this mystery quilt because I loved the mystery quilt-a-longs with Bonnie Hunter. But Bonnie’s is too fast and too many little pieces and in the worst time of year for me that I just end up with UFO after UFO each year. I felt that Judy’s monthly Mystery Quilt was doable each month and smaller. Plus I was able to purchase fabric. When this project was getting started I didn’t have time to choose fabric.
Tell It To The Stars
2/25/2015 – Next I need to get a backing and quilt it. I have a new mid arm but I’m hesitant to use this quilt to learn how to use the mid arm so I’m going to practice quilting Month by Month on the mid arm first. Once I’m finished with that I’ll quilt Tell It To The Stars.
It took some time but I finally got the backing done for this.
6/14/2015 – This picture doesn’t show the darker gray bordering the right and left of the back but I’ll have to post that at a different time. Something I did differently on this back is that I put the label on before I quilted it. I also pieced the back with some of the remaining pieces left over from the kit of hand dyed fabrics that I purchased. I wanted to highlight the hand dyed fabric. The grays are not hand dyed and but I felt it showed off the fabric best. I originally purchased the darker gray but I didn’t like how it looked right next to the hand dyed fabric. So I bought the lighter gray thinking I would use the darker gray for something else. After I pieced the lighter gray onto the back it was still not big enough so I used the darker gray anyway. Even then, I still didn’t have enough for all four sides so I went back to Quilt Emporium and bought an additional 2 yards for the remaining 2 sides. I washed and got them pieced on today.
Finished and bound!
