I am still enjoying this project immensely. I have to force myself to work on Mama’s Bukid. I love how Mama’s Bukid is coming out but I’m not drawn to work on it like I am Gamer.  I wrapped up all the sides of the fabric and made a grime guard.  I found a cool tutorial here. Hopefully, the link works. I found that I have a ton of fabric to smush because it’s a big piece and the grime guard didn’t keep all the fabric in.  So next time, I will make the width of the guard a bit bigger to accommodate the bunch of fabric I want it to hold. Once I’m done filling in all the pieces on this page, I will need to migrate over to the 11×11 QSnap.  I started making the grime guard for that one when I made the grime guard the 8×8 so the fabric will still be too much for this one.  But I will finish the one I started and use that for now.

Happy Thursday!

Happy Stitching!

I am speeding through this project.  I am enjoying it immensely.  I started with a small hoop and then upgraded to an 8×8 QSnap.  I ordered a large scroll frame from ABCStitch.com to put this project on.  I do not know how long that will take to get to me but I have a larger QSnap.  I think it’s 11×17 but I can’t be certain.  This is a large project and I’m only on the first page (of 50 or so pages) so I hope this continues.

Last fall, we took a weekend trip to Solvang and I purchased some Mill Hill kits.  Here’s my progress on one of those kits:

I don’t have the name but I do a bit on it when I have time or feel like it.  It’s definitely not a priority but I am making some effort to get some of my things finished. This is the first time I’m working on a Mill Hill design or on perforated plastic.  I’m not loving it but it’s a new experience.

Happy Tuesday!

I’m halfway through Row 10 on page 5.  There are 14 rows on this page.  I am hoping to get row 10 done this week and at this rate I’m doing a row every 2 weeks.  I hope to get the rest of this page done by the end of March!  I started the first row in October which means that I would finish this page in 6 months. That would be insane!  That’s a lot shorter than the 2 years it took me to do the first page.  On FB someone asked me about the final picture. Someone asked me on a previous post here as well.  I finally did a google search and found this:

Farmland 2

I do not think it’s the complete final pic because it looks like it’s missing some of the clouds but it’s still a surprise to me.  I do not know what happened with the picture that came with the project.

I didn’t realize how much I got done but that’s a lot. It seems every night I’m putting a few stitches here and there and that’s helping me progress too.  Bukid is my primary cross stitch project so I work on that project more. I try to do a thread every night but that doesn’t happen every night.

Happy Tuesday!

Cross Stitch, an update – week 7, 2018

Before I update you on my cross stitch projects, I have some good news.  I went to the San Fernando Valley Quilt Association’s (SFVQA) meeting last night and won a raffle basket!  I was ecstatic!  I counted it all and there was about 17 yards of fabric.  I didn’t take a tape measure to it so give or take a few yards.  It’s all winnings so I’m not going to add it to my Sunday Stash report.  I do need to figure out where I’m going to put it but here’s a quick pic of the basket.

I’m working on one shade of gray.  It’s kind of boring but I’m still excited by the newness of the project and I’m enjoying working on it.  I do not really know much about cross stitching but I believe this is 2×2 on 18 count Aida.  Hopefully I got that right! 🙂

Page 5, Row 7 is done!  And I actually noticed a little mistake… You can’t really tell with these pictures but I know that if I let it go on, you’ll be able to tell once row 8 is finished.  So I need to rip out the mistake and re-stitch it. Luckily it’s only few stitches that need to be fixed.  This week I’m working on row 8 and I hope that row 8 gets finished in the next couple of weeks.

I received Gamer this week and I wanted to start stitching right away.  But I restrained myself.  Since I started watching FlossTube and I’m learning a bit more of the cross stitching craft I decided to start right and prep my fabric.

Prepping the fabric

I did press the fabric but the manhandling I had to do to add the floss marks wrinkled it all back up.  Oh well.  If you look really close the purple dashes are purple floss that marks the centers of the fabric.  The orange dashes are bolded lines on the pattern.  I hope that this will help me with the project.  It’s the most difficult cross stitch project I’ve ever worked on so I’m hoping doing this will help me.  I want to get all these marked immediately so I can start stitching.

Happy Friday!

I had to move the scroll as it was becoming harder to stitch on the right side of the frame.  So going forward, here’s the pic that you’ll most likely see…

I didn’t do a good job at getting the lighting right but I’ll pay more attention to that in the future.  For now, you get the idea.  I’ll try to unscroll and show you a picture of the full thing now and again because I love to look at it.  But I’m not sure how often I’ll be able to do that.  In the meantime, progress is slowly being made.  Once I get row 7 done, I’ll be halfway through this page.  And my 16 year timeframe, which was cut in half to 8 years recently maybe even shorter than that.

In addition, I still haven’t received Gamer.  I looked at my purchase order and they have a one month turn around.  I should have it early February at the latest.  Hopefully it comes sooner than that.  I may have to take out some little stitching projects to intersperse with Mama’s Bukid.  I’m enjoying Mama’s Bukid for now so I may just continue to work on it as much as possible before Gamer arrives.

Happy Wednesday!

Happy Stitching!

Cross Stitch, an update

“Mama’s Bukid” …

A lot of time has passed since my last update. I didn’t realize… The holidays happened and I was engrossed with enjoying the time rather than posting on the blog.  And then I got sick soon after Christmas through the New Years.  I finally started getting back into my normal crafty self on the 4th and then I had to catch up with work and other things.  Anyway, here’s my cross stitch update.

Sorry for the not so great lighting but I did not have time to take it outside to get the right sunlight.  You can see the progress though.  On my Crafty Plan for Cross Stitching post, I mentioned the Gamer Nouveau cross stitch and I was able to purchase the kit a few days ago.  It’s coming from the UK so hopefully, the wait is not too long.

I’m really excited about getting this started.

Happy Wednesday!

2018 Crafty Plan – Cross Stitching

If you missed the start of my 2018 crafty plan series, see my first post about my quilty plans. The second about knitting, and this is the third which continues with cross stitching.  The final post in the series will outline my rotation that I will be implementing this month.

I’ve been watching FlossTube which is basically cross stitching podcasts on YouTube.  And I’ve been exposed to the world of cross stitching as I never knew it.  If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile, you know that I learned how to cross stitch from my grandma in the 90’s.  I inherited all my patterns and projects from her and they reflect her tastes from that time period.  She past away in 1999 and a couple of years ago I picked up an old pattern that I had worked on years ago and finished it.  Then I picked up the project called Farmland 2 that I renamed to Mama’s Bukid.  I’ve been working on it ever since.  I’m on page 5 of the pattern but it’s really only the second page of the 8-page project.  Since I started watching FlossTube I started buying more patterns and kits.  The ones I got were small ones that if I worked on it regularly could finish in a month or two.  As with everything, I’m not fast.  And the ones I got are seasonal and I’ve put them aside until I’m ready to work on Halloween and Christmas crafts.  Unlike other crafts I do, all I know is what my grandma taught me.  I am picking up a few tips and tricks from the flosstubers I’m watching but I don’t care if my back is a mess or if I make a mistake here or there.  Recently, I saw a YouTuber stitch this and absolutely fell in love with Gamer Nouveau.

I love it.  The only thing is that I’m afraid it will get in the way of me finishing Mama’s Bukid and I don’t want it to do that.  But I’m afraid if I do not get this kit now I may miss out and not find it 10 years from now when Mama’s Bukid is done.  So, I’m going to buy this kit and add this to a rotation I’m putting together for all my projects.  Hear about my rotation tomorrow as I finalize it.
