I have a backlog of quilt tops. I believe on my last count, I have 9 ready to be quilted. I also have a bunch of charity tops I took at our last Treasure Hunt with the promise that I will quilt them and donate them on. They’ve been staring at me angrily for the last year and I’ve been avoiding them valiantly.

Anyway, I finally took action and pulled out the charity tops. these are all small – doll blanket sizes. and I had also obtained a bunch of fabric to use as backings from the same Treasure Hunt I got the tops from. All I had to do was decide which fabric will be the back and cut them to size. That was the easy part. I have about 6-7 small tops with backing now. And in that same box I found 3 things I need to do something with as they are not exactly finished but pretty close. I put those in my sewing room to work on another time.

Then I went through my actual tops. I started with the small ones because they were the easiest to tackle and I got 3 backs ready for my 3 small tops.

Then I took out the bigger ones. The first 45 and Life – here’s a pic so you know what I’m talking about –

I had bought a bunch of fabric when I thought I was going to make this a bigger size and then later decided not to. I went and found the bag it was still in and found enough of what I used for the border to make into the back. So then I ripped the fabric in preparation to piece. By this time, I was too tired to actually take the pieces to my sewing machine so I just folded them up and put this at the top of my back making list. Then I pulled Plum fusion…

Plum Fusion – I actually had bought the backing for this quilt as it was offered with the BOM in 2021. So I have it. And I need to pull the fabric out, I don’t need to wash it because the fabric for this entire top was part of the BOM and so was not pre-washed. This is #2 on my backing to do list.

And finally, #3 on my list is the back for my Jan Krentz quilt.

This one already had backing fabric picked but i had to pre wash the fabric since the fabric I used in this quilt came from stash and was pre-washed. I stuck it in the wash/dryer last night and when I’m ready, I just need to rip and piece the back together.

Once those three are done, I have 3 tops left:

These three do not have backing fabric yet. Luckily 2 of the 3 had measurements noted in the bags they were in and I measured the third one. I was able to figure out how much fabric I needed for backing and made notes on my phone for future big sales. I’m a little disappointed I didn’t get my act together sooner as several sales were happening last month. Oh well, I’m sure there will be more sales in my future.

So this is what I’m working on right now. Instead of finishing a quilt, I’m getting the backs ready. And when I’ve got the backs ready (especially on the 3 that I can get ready), my next goal will be to prep the batting.
