And for Slow Stitching Sunday with Kathy at Kathy Quilts, I plan to continue my work on A Rainbow Garden!  I got all the flowers stitched on and the next step is the little white buds.  I’m not really sure how I’m going to stitch them so I’m not sure if it will be quick or take a bit of time.  But these buds are the last step so once those are done I can pull out Block 7!

Here’s how it looked last weekend:

I put french knots in all the white buds to keep them in their place but I also want to do a small stitch in cream around all those buds to keep them down.  I think I’ll take really tiny stitches but not as close together as the other stitches.  I don’t want the stitches to take away from the buds but I do want them to be completely stitched down.

Stash Report – Week 50, 2016

Things are quiet in the stash department.  Nothing added or used!  Life is crazy at the moment with changes happening all around me so I haven’t had the mindspace to quilt Missing Ivy.  Or do the borders of Have Yourself a Quilty Little Christmas!  Even though my goal was to get 6 quilts done this year and these two are the quilts to get me there, I’m giving myself some grace to take time off.  I am working on En Provence and that is coming along nicely.  I’ll post more tomorrow for Bonnie’s linky!

Stash Report – Week 49, 2016

I added yardage into my house.  All the fabric I bought was for an intended purpose.  I love that!  I didn’t buy fabric just to buy fabric.  First, I bought the additional yardage I needed for Provence.  If you remember from this post, I miscut and needed to buy more for my side triangles.  To be safe, I bought 1.5 yards which should be more than enough of what I need.  Then I bought the constant magenta for Bonnie Hunter’s mystery quilt.  When I pulled fabric this year, I forgot that the magenta was to be a constant so I pulled all the pinks/magentas from my scrap bins.  Luckily someone said something or mentioned that it was to be a constant.  I returned all those scraps to the right bin and made my way to my fave LQS to correct the situation.  Bonnie called for 1.5 yards but because of my recent problem of not having enough of the right fabric, I bought 3 yards.  My LQS had a sale of thirties fabrics and I needed backing for the next quilt that will be finished… Have yourself a Quilty little Christmas!  I felt that thirties fabric will go well with that quilt and proceeded to by 4 yards for that.  Again, I bought more than enough to ensure that I have enough.  And finally, I still love this fabric:

large_0443296

My LQS had about 2.5 yards left on the bolt so I bought it all.  I am planning on making bags with the fabric.  I think the little scenes are adorable and they would make great project bags for my knitting.

And for Slow Stitching Sunday with Kathy at Kathy Quilts, I plan to continue my work on A Rainbow Garden!  I only work on this project on Sundays for Slow Stitching Sunday so it’s the same project from week to week.  I also work on this project when I meet with my mini group each month.  We usually meet at someone’s dining table so hand work is the best project to bring along.   It’s slow but that’s the point of Slow Stitching Sunday.  Some days I enjoy the process and other days it’s a slog.  Last weekend I enjoyed it.  Even though my Clippers were losing.  Hopefully that continues.  My enjoyment, not the losses. ;0

I’ve got 2 of the flowers stitched down with two more to go.  I really enjoyed stitching the flower on top.  It was the second one I stitched on and I like the little blanket stitch.  The bottom flower had just a bit bigger stitches and I didn’t enjoy the look of those as much as I do the top flower.

Stash Report – Week 48, 2016

Per this post, I bought a yard of fabric for the side and corner triangles of Provence.  🙁  But it’s needed yardage to finish up a quilt and not just stash accumulation.  I like to track my yardage because it keeps me mindful of buying fabric.  I have 6 large plastic bins filled with fabric and 1 large bin for larger scraps and such.  That’s all the space I have for fabric and they are completely filled.  So, I’ve had to be careful with what I bring into my house.  Bonnie Hunter’s annual mystery quilt helps reduce my scrap bins each year.  The first thing I did to prepare is run through my smaller scrap bin for all the colors I need.  Then I go through the large bin.  As I work through the first clue, I haven’t run out of those fabrics yet but when I do, I’ll be hitting the larger bins with full yards of fabric.

I bought the fabric mentioned above and paid for this month’s kit for Have Yourself a Quilty Little Christmas! And I bought new knitting needles.  I had to try the Ciaogoo 9″circular needles for the socks I’m making I bought #1’s and #2’s.  And as soon as I got them I started using them.  The #1s are being used in my pinky/purple socks and I casted on a new pair of purple socks for the #2s.  Can you tell I love purple? So far I’m loving them.

Stash Report – Week 47, 2016

I’ve done nothing in terms of quilting or using up fabric these last couple of weeks.  I took a bunch of knitting with me so I have some yarnage used! 🙂  I also didn’t buy any fabric or spend any money on crafting.  All good stuff.  I’ve been busy and distracted by the world events and my own crazy life.

For the Budget:

I really tried to buy stuff in Colorado but the quilt shop we went to wasn’t open during the hours yelp and their door sign said that they would be open.  It was a small town shop and the shopkeeper next door said the owner recently broke her arm.  I understand that stuff happens but it wouldn’t have been hard for her to tell her neighbor to put a sign on the door saying that the shop would be open at 1pm instead of the normal hours.  I would have had time to go to another shop instead of waiting around had I known.  Oh well.  It was good for my pocketbook and my budget as I ended up not buying anything. Road2CA is coming up and I really need to start getting my supplies together. I’ll be working on that over the next coming months so all spending on this end will be towards that.

Spent this week: $0.00

For my birthday we went out of town and as I do when I travel I visited the local shop.  So I have 8.597 yards added to the stash.  Nothing finished yet. I didn’t get a chance to post a stash report last week so I’m just adding it in now. The hubby funded this expense so I’m not adding it to the budget. 🙂

For the Budget:

I bought a new foot for Luna.  On that post I talked about getting the #37D and/or #57D.  On my 330 I have both the 37 and 57 so I figured I would get both the 37D and the 57D.  But when I went to get them last month the shop only had the 37D in stock.  I meant to go back and get the 57D but didn’t feel like spending the money.  I was at the shop today and discovered they have a new foot, 97D that combines the 37D and the 57D so I got the 97D.

Next step is to get those flowers appliqued on.  I’m leaning towards tiny blanket stitches to match the tiny blanket stitches of the darker inner purples.  This block is almost done!  I’m not sure how quickly I’ll get those flowers on but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  🙂

Stash Report – Week 40, 2016

Hampton Ridge Finished! 9/29/2016

Hampton Ridge
Finished!
9/29/2016

Hampton Ridge is done!  woohoo!  I’m taking 14.5 yards used this week. Thank you very much!  Someone asked me recently how I determine how much is used.  I struggle with this and can very from one day to the next.  But to give you an idea of my calculations.  Basically, I count the yardage that comes in and goes out for my own benefit so it doesn’t have to be 100% accurate.  As long as I have a general idea then I’m okay with it.  So here’s how I do it… I take the finish size of the quilt and calculate the area.  I figure out how much area a yard is in square inches.  Then I divide the total area of the quilt with the area of a yard and that gives me the yardage for one side.  So I multiply it by two to get the top and bottom.  Then I add how much I used for binding which is generally very easy to figure out based on how much I bought and how much I cut to use.  Then I add 15% for trimmings.  If the quilt has a lot of little pieces (like Celtic Solstice) I may increase that to 20%.  If the piece doesn’t, then I may decrease that to 10%.  But for the most part, I use 15%.

In addition to my usage, I also bought 1.5 yards for more golden/yellow borders for Missing Ivy.
