Gamer project bag

Gamer is a huge poster size cross stitch project that I’ve been working on for forever (since 01/2018). I like to take this project on retreat but it’s huge, on scroll bars, and while not cumbersome I’m constantly afraid I’ll poke a hole or spill something on it during transport. So I’ve been wanting to get a bag and I got this big plastic thing from Amazon but while it fits the frame tightly width wise, it is way too big height wise and is kind of weird looking. I know I can make something and sometime last year I started the process of making a huge bag to fit, the poster size cross stitch project (on scroll bars), the tablet I use with Pattern Keeper, the box of floss and the bags of extra floss, as well as the paper pattern I have so it’s all together.

I didn’t have a pattern so I started with By Annie’s Pack It In bag and modified the size to accommodate the project. It was easy to get the top and bottom together and prep the zipper loop. I hit a snag when I needed to attach the zipper. I couldn’t find the cute turquoise zipper my friend gave me so I set the whole project aside. It’s been months and I still haven’t found it. At some point I bought the same zipper because the other one was somewhere safe. At another point I found an even cuter zipper that I wanted to use.

I pulled it out to work on recently.

Here’s a picture of Gamer, my long term cross stitch project.

I have started a bit on the next row.
Here’s the bag while I smoosh it into obedience so I can sew the zipper loop onto the top panel.
bag without handles
bag with handles.

I still need to bind the raw edges inside the bag and I need to top stitch the external edges to help create definition.

But my xstitch retreat is coming up and I won’t have time to actually do that before the retreat. I plan to do that part at my quilt mini retreat at the end of the month because I need the space available at the retreat.

Always

  1. I am really impressed with both, your progress on Gamer and the bag. Zipper choice can make or break a bag, yours is perfect. I never seem to have the perfect one handy, maybe one day I’ll organize that drawer.
