Garden update

My garden finally has some baby fruits hanging around. Here are some fruity updates on what’s going on.

The pomegranates are fruiting up nicely. I got about 2-3 pomegranates last year and they were not great. This particular tree was gifted to me by my mom’s friend, Auntie Norma. she had the tree in a pot for 10 years and it never gave fruit. I took it out of the pot and the 1st or 2nd year I had it, I was blessed with 1 pomegranate. Anyway, I’m not a fan of pomegranate. It’s hard to open and eat. My ex loved pomegranates and he was not a fan of my garden. So I tried to grow stuff he liked hoping he’d eventually learn to like my garden. He’s now my ex. nuff said. Anyway, I’m hoping the fruit gets sweeter and better with time. But if not, my mom gets rid of not great tasting fruit trees easily because there’s just not enough room and resources to waste on a not great fruit tree. And I need to learn that lesson as well.

Mindy’s Fig tree

My friend Mindy gave me a cutting from her fig tree when I first moved to this house and it’s grown so much. The figs on this tree is sweet and I relish it every year. Last year, I harvested about 15 figs and this year I’m so excited at how many figs the tree has. There’s probably about 50 figs. It’s really hard to see all the figs. I found it hard to take a picture because the figs blend so nicely with the leaves.

Mangos!

This is the first year this mango tree has flowers and have these little bebes. I am hoping they stay on and become mangos I can eat. 🤞🏼My mom gifted me this tree when we moved into the house in 2020 and she was told we’d get fruit the first year. I didn’t believe it and it never did until now. I was about to give up so I’m excited that we’ve gotten this far.

Passion fruit

My passion fruit trellis/arch is currently my favorite thing. I enjoy sitting under it with my cup of coffee. This picture just shows the front half of the arch and you can see there’s probably about 10 passion fruit on just that one section. I have so many more flowers and more fruit to come! Last year was the first year I got fruit and I had about 20. but I had gone somewhere and missed when they ripened. I was able to taste only 2-3 and they were sour! I’m hoping this year I’m in town (I’ve got no plans) and the fruit is sweeter and better.

duhat

I don’t know what this is called in English but my dad bought and planted it a few months before he died. He hadn’t had this fruit in so long (it’s pilipino) and he was so excited to see it in an LA nursery. This is the first year I have these little buds and I’m not sure of they’re flowers or fruit bebes. I’m pretty sure I had little flowers months ago but it’s been so long I don’t know if these are new buds or the old ones becoming fruit. I googled it and I think they are buds of fruit.

Happy gardening.
