Craftsy Class Update – February

I’m a little late posting this and it’s really because I’ve been taking advantage of Craftsy’s sales.  I remembered last week’s purchase but totally forgot about the three I bought earlier in the month. /sigh.  Well, I’ve got a total of 8 classes added for the month.  This will have to stop!  Here are the classes I’ve added:

  • Finishing School: Edges & Bindings with Mimi Dietrich
  • Machine Quilting with Templates: Creating Design Perfection with Kimmy Brunner
  • Vegetable Gardening: Smart Techniques for Plentiful Results
  • Vegetable Gardening: Innovative Small-Space Solutions

I finished watching Free Motion Fillers Volume 1 with Leah Day.  This is one of those classes that are great to take while I’m quilting or knitting and can just watch or listen as I craft.  Leah is a wealth of information and ideas.  I’m not sure I’m at the point to actually learn how to do any of the designs she shared.  But I may be one day.  I bought this class originally so I can FMQ on my little Bernina but I make big quilts and I hate quilting them on her.  So now that I’ve got my Bailey I like the class for the information and maybe one day I’ll want to do some of these designs.  If that day comes, I’ll have this Craftsy class to refer to.  I mentioned in a previous post her interesting basting method.  It’s the last lesson of the class and was apparently taken out of her Free Motion Quilting a Sampler class.

Craftsy Class Update

I started watching Artisan Bread Making from the point I last left it and decided to hold off on this class.  I will need to make the breads before I can mark this as complete and I’m just not ready for it.  It feels like it will be a lot of work and I’m okay with the bread I’m able to pull off with my bread machine.  After one lesson I turned that off and started Mastering Foundation Paper Piecing where I left off.  I was watching this class pretty heavily each time I worked on a block of Moon Glow.  It totally helped.  But since I’m not currently doing a paper piecing project and I’m not inclined to do the class project, I finished watching it for her little tips and tricks.  I know this is a class I’ll watch whenever I work on a paper piecing project.

Once I finished that class I started finished up watching Machine Quilting with Wendy Butler Burns.  This is a great intro class to Machine Quilting.  I watched most of it when I started machine quilting again but never finished it.  The last couple of lessons I missed were the borders and binding lessons.  I thoroughly enjoyed the binding lesson and I realized that I should have watched this before I bound my Table Runner and Place Mats.  I know that I will need to re-watch the binding lesson before I bind my next project.

The next set of classes I’ll be working on is Hats Four Ways and the free class Bag-Making Basics: Drawstring Bag and Bucket Bag.  To mark both of these complete I will need to work on the projects.  The bags will be much faster than knitting hats so I’ll probably get the bags done first.

Completed Classes:

  • Mastering Foundation Paper Piecing
  • Machine Quilting

Resolution #3: Complete Craftsy Classes

As of this moment I’ve got 45 classes in my Craftsy page.  Only 2 have been completed.  And by completed, in these cases, I did all the projects listed.  I will not always do the projects listed in the class.  I will determine when a class is considered complete.  I listed 5 classes in process.  I believe Mastering Foundation Paper piecing is done but I need to check it out and confirm that.  I didn’t do the projects but basically used this class to help me do the Moon Glow BOM last year.  I figure I do not need to actually do the project for the class.  However there might be a lesson or two at the end that I may not have ever completed. So I left this as “in process” for now.  The same applies to the “Machine Quilting” class.  I know I watched probably 95% of it when I first bought the class.  There isn’t really a project to do but I basically watch it to get pointers on my quilting projects.

**as a reminder, I do not have a specific goal for the number of classes I want to complete.  I just want to make a conscious effort to complete classes.  Sometimes that may mean I do the full on project, sometimes that may mean I just watched the whole thing.  I just depends on the class and what I want to get out of it.
