Scrapitude – Finished top! I got the borders on Saturday and now I’ve got to figure out what to do on the backing. But first… Tell It To The Stars… I wasn’t able to get the back finished because I need a ton more gray fabric than I thought. I got 2 yards and apparently I’m going to need 4 or something. Luckily I have a darker gray fabric that I purchased originally and it was too dark so I bought a lighter gray. I plan to piece the lighter gray all around and then piece the darker gray around that. I’ll have to check and make sure reality matches the picture in my head but I think that’s a great way to use fabric… rather than buying more of the lighter gray. I was only able to cut the lighter gray, pressed and got one side pieced. I’ll be working on the rest over the course of this week.

Very pretty! Backs — I don’t think there is a good solution. Generally I prefer one kind of fabric, but I’ve done it every which way. The one I’m working on quilting now is 96″ square, meaning it needs about 9 yards. I managed to piece it out of only two kinds and frankly felt pretty good about that!
Thanks! I’ve generally used one kind of fabric for the backs in previous quilts too but I’m exploring this new-to-me method. I don’t think it will work every time but I think in this case it worked great!
Oh my, I hate those moments of not-enough. I am always amazed at how much fabric borders and backs take. Hope your mixing play works.
Thanks! I think it worked out pretty great! 🙂
Backs drive me nuts! It seems I always need more fabric than I plan on – must be the whole quilty math thing I’m so bad at… 🙂 Your quilt is so very pretty, and I’m sure you’ll make the back look great too! Thanks for linking up to Main Crush Monday.
Thanks! 🙂
Melanie!! Scrapitude turned out just stunning! Sorry I’ve been so absent the last month or so with the wedding and all. I’m having a lot of fun surfing back through the BOMs Away link-ups, and this quilt is a high point. Nicely done!
Thanks Lynette! I know you’ve been busy! I hope you’ve had time to do some crafty stuff even if you hadn’t had time to jump on the blog-o-sphere as much.
