May 2024

I’m still struggling with my quilty mojo. My sewing room is a big mess and I have trouble going in and working on things. It’s also my office so I spend all my work hours in there trying to ignore the mess around me while I work. In addition it’s play offs and I am watching as much basketball as I can before our season ends. And when it’s not raining I spend my time outside enjoying my garden. So quilty and crafty life is taking a back burner to all that. But it makes me sad and a bit apprehensive when I look at all my UFOs and projects I want to work on.

#1 – Quilt something

Storm at Sea / Snail’s Trail Wendy Mathson December 2022

Last month I got all my backs prepped and this month my goal is to get all the batting prepped.

#2. Alaska – I posted about this project here and here and here and here and here. This month my plan is to start putting the top together.

#3- Door banners – I started this new monthly project in March and I haven’t been able to pick it back up since. April was a hard month.

This was our January or February kit and was supposed to be done in time for Easter but it wasn’t. So I may decide to set this one aside and work on the most recent one so I have the July project done on time. I hate having this WIP staring at me while all I have to do is quilt it (famous last words) but I know that if I do that then I will just fall ever more behind. And I think I’ll feel worse. I haven’t had time to do much so whatever I end up doing – Start the next one or finish this one- I will be thrilled.

—————- everything below this line has basically not been worked on for awhile and I keep this on the list so I don’t forget. But it’s not something I pull out on a daily. I’m thinking of doing something a little different going forward because I want these monthly goals to be relevant. Otherwise I tend not to look at them. Hopefully I figure something out soon…

3 – Mountain Mist – continue working on this

Finished first block

Still working on block 2

#4 – Ornaments – all of these have been blanket stitched and are ready for the next step…

The next step is to embroider decorative stitches around. I need to go through my book of stitches and pull out some fancy thread and play with the various ones. Then pick what I like. This takes thought and having all my options with me so it feels a bit more involved than what I’m able to do right now.

#5-Raining Cats and Dogs- this is an old hand quilting project that I set aside. I am adding this on this list to remember it and figure out how to get this done. Ideally It’s one of those projects I spend a little time on each day but I have a lot of those now and so need to think about my game plan.

#6- sashiko… I have all those sashiko things I bought last year and I want to play with these one day.

#7-Kimberbell – machine embroidery. I picked this up again as I was trying to make space to walk in my sewing room.

Happy quilting!
