Get It Done – September

My August List:

  • Continue block for “Raining Cats and Dogs” – done
  • Bind and Label Kayla’s quilt – done
  • Hand quilt border #1 (of three) on the first quilt – done
  • Step 8 of Easy Street – I actually made progress.  I finished Block A and I’m working on Block B.  I’ll try to get Block B done tonight but I’ve still got to put the whole quilt together.  I’m really going to try to get all of this done this Labor Day weekend but I’m not a super speed sewer … so we’ll see how much I finish this weekend.

My September List:

I know I’ve got way more on my get it done list this month but I’m getting bored with the projects I’ve been working on these last few months.  So – I’ve added a few more to give me options to choose from.  I guess I could have just done these things without putting it on my list, but if they’re not on the list I tend to forget about them.  And if I forget about them – well, that’s when I run free with my credit card.

Get It Done – August

My July List:

  • Finish quilting Kayla’s quilt
  • next step for Easy Street – I checked and I am on the last step. woohooo!!
  • Hand quilt the sashes on the first quilt
  • one block for “Raining Cats and Dogs”

I finished three items on the list for July.  I finished quilting Kayla’s Thirties quilt. I finished hand quilting the sashes on the first quilt.  And for Easy Street – I have a correction.  When I went to actually do the last step I discovered that I didn’t actually finish step 7 so I finished step 7.  I started on the block for “Raining Cats and Dogs” but I am not even 1/4th of the way through it.  But three out of four items is great as far as I’m concerned.

Stash Sunday and June – Get It Done!

I haven’t done my stash report the last few weeks. I have only unpacked the bare essentials to live and work. Life is crazy. We had a washing machine overflow a couple of weeks ago so the house flooded and now we’re waiting on the floors getting done before we unpack everything. I do have my sewing machine out to keep me sane (it’s one of those bare essentials!) So I’ve finished up a few things on my goal list this month. But before I move on to my goals I’ll catch up on my stash report. I haven’t used any yardage as they are all packed up. I did purchase 6 yards for a class I enrolled in (before the floors flooded). But last week they called to tell me I was the only one enrolled so they cancelled the class. I was sad but at the same time – the universe works in mysterious ways as I’m crazy woman right now. Well not me – just everything around me. I had to pack everything that we had unpacked back up so that when the floor guys come Friday to fix the floors there aren’t a lot of loose stuff around. And I only kept out one project for me to work on. So with that over the last few weeks I used a big fat ZERO and purchased 6 yards!

Used these last few Weeks (since the last report): 0 yards
Used year to Date: 1 yards
Added these last few Weeks: 6 yards
Added Year to Date: 41 yards
Net Used for 2013: 34 yards

SPOILER ALERT – I purchased fabric on the internet Friday that is due to arrive Monday or Tuesday so next week’s report will more added yardage! I don’t think I have a whole lot of fabric around so I think that’s okay. Well – all my fabric is stored away so I can’t actually see how much fabric I have. Maybe I have a whole lot I don’t know. When I am able to unpack everything I plan on counting up all the yardage so I can find out. How much total fabric do you have? I want to know if mine is a lot, a little, or about average!

June – Get it done!
With everything that has happened the last few weeks I am proud to say that I got 2 of the items on my list done.
Goal #1- put that label on Jacob’s crib quilt. – DONE
Goal #2- hand quilt one block on my first quilt – DONE
Goal #3- finish quilting Kayla’s quilt – HALF DONE
Goal#4- finish the next step for Easy Street – DIDN’T EVEN GET TO THIS.

I really like “getting it done” with Judy. By putting listing my goals I try to focus on getting them done so I can say what I’ve got done. I was able to finish #1 pretty quickly and #2 not as quickly but it got done. Goal #3 took much longer than I thought it would. Partly because I needed to buy a new foot to get it going. I really hate the quilting on the quilt. It is my thirties quilt that I am making for my daughter and I finished the top a couple of years ago. And I believe I posted the back story as to why I haven’t quilted it but I decided that I have no more excuses and to just get it done. It’s really only my second attempt at quilting so I am cutting myself some slack. I will learn from this attempt and hopefully my third will be much better. Here are my goals for July:
#1 – Finish quilting Kayla’s quilt
#2 – next step for Easy Street – I checked and I am on the last step. woohooo!!
#3 – Hand quilt the sashes on the first quilt
#4 – one block for “Raining Cats and Dogs”

Get it done – June 2013

I found another great quilty blog recently and I’ll add her to the blogs that I follow list soon. But when I posted my first stash report I linked the Hip To Be A Square podcast as that was where I first heard of it. Reading her stash report last Sunday I noticed Pam, the blogger there, linked another blog and that was Patchwork Times. Apparently that was where Pam at HTBAS got it from. So I started reading it and I absolutely love it. From her chickens, to her garden, to her quilts… Just wonderful stuff. She also knits and probably a bunch of other stuff that I’m not as interested in but her blog is really cool. And she posts quite often…multiple times a day which I love.

Anyway, that long intro was my precursor to explain that one of the things that Judy at Patchwork Times does is list 4 goals each month and then allows other bloggers to link their posts. I’m a big lists and goals person so I decided I want to do this too! Here’s my June list…. I know I’m moving this month so I will be pushed for time but I figure that if I have a goal I’ll have direction as to what to do when I have time. If I don’t do anything or I don’t have time….I’m going to have to be okay with that! And if I do one thing….well I will definitely be happy with that!

Goal #1- put that label on Jacob’s crib quilt.
Goal #2- hand quilt one block on my first quilt ever which was entirely done by hand…and is still not done. From what I remember I’m almost done hand quilting one block so I just need to finish that block this month.
Goal #3- finish quilting Kayla’s quilt- this has been so hard to finish and my daughter has been waiting patiently for it. This was my quilting nightmare. The top was beautiful…primarily red with bits of yellow…it’s 30’s repro prints so it was bright and lively, which my daughter is! I finished the top and when it came to quilting it I took a machine quilting class because I wanted to do more than straight lines. Well, I knew my machine at that time sucked but didn’t realize until I tried to free motion quilt how bad it was. It skipped stitches! It was fine going straight up or straight down. As soon as I went diagonal in any which way it SKIPPED stitches. That put a stop to me doing her quilt. Then after a little while I just wanted to get it done so I started quilting it with a straight stitch. I hated it. Then I tried to quilt on the ditch since technically that is a straight stitch and that wasn’t working because it’s a full size quilt and it was too big for that machine. This quilt is the primary reason I bought my Bernina 330. Anyway I bought the Bernina in August 2012 and I’ve been scared to quilt with it…lol. I’m going to move past that fear this month!
Goal#4- either finish the step I’m on for Easy Street or do the next step… I want to finish this before her next mystery quilt!

…until next time….
