Quilty Goals – July, 2014

A Lovely Year of Finishes

I missed posting my July Goal List because of my busy life… but I wanted to get this up here anyway.

Here’s the June list so I can track how much I accomplished during this crazy time…

  1. Easy Street* – Finish the binding and label this baby! 🙂 – DONE! I actually finished this early in July.
  2. Practice sandwiches for FMQ** – I need to create a plan for the next 6 months and do the first step -> I was able to prep about 12- 12×12 practice sandwiches to use over the next few months.
  3. Iris Cameo: Finish quilting the border. -> put it away and haven’t gotten to this yet.  I did get it unpacked and in my WIP dresser.
  4. Stay caught up with my current BOMs: Tell It To The Stars -> fell behind
  5. Get caught up with Moon Glow – I have this month’s and last month’s -> now I’m 3 blocks behind (6, 7, 8)
  6. Get caught up with Hampton Ridge – I have this month’s and last month’s -> I’m 3 month’s behind (7, 8, 9)
  7. Block #4 of A Rainbow Garden – I’m heading down to Los Angeles for 8 days and this is all hand work.  So I’m taking this with me.  Hopefully I actually do something with it. -> didn’t even touch this
  8. Block #7 Raining Cats and Dogs – get started on this block -> haven’t touched this either
  9. Part 4 of Celtic Solstice -> also didn’t do anything on this.
  10. Open and start one of my kits**-> haven’t done anything with this either.

Quilty Goals – June, 2014

A Lovely Year of Finishes

Here’s my May Quilty Goal List and how well I did…

  1. Easy Street* – Finish quilting the borders, bind and label this baby! 🙂 ==> I was able to finish quilting the borders and get the binding on but not finished or labelled.  I guess this will go on to June’s list.  This was held up since it took me 2 weeks to get to a quilt shop to buy fabric for the binding so c’est la vie.
  2. Flowers and Baskets* – get this basted and ready to quilt. ==> DONE!  it’s ready to be quilted.  I did the blue baste method and I LOVE IT!  Let’s see how it goes when I quilt it.  So far I’ve only quilted crib quilts and small things that I’ve glue basted.  this will be the largest glue basted item I’m going to quilt so I’m interested to see if it goes better than the pin basting did for me.
  3. Prep 12 practice sandwiches for FMQ** ==> DONE! I’ve prepped 14 practice sandwiches… YAY — now I’ve just got to go practice. haha!
  4. Open and start one of my kits** ==> DONE!  I opened up my corduroy quilt.  We’ll see if I get going on any of it or if I’ll stick it in the UFO pile.  I’m not sure yet.  I’m loving it at the moment so I may just keep working on it.
  5. Stay caught up with my current BOMs: Tell It To The Stars and Moon Glow ==> Well, I was able to stay caught up with Tell It To The Stars but Moon Glow is now behind a month.
  6. Get caught up with Hampton Ridge. ==> I finished 1 month so I’m only behind a month.
  7. Block #4 of A Rainbow Garden ==> I didn’t even touch this.
  8. Block #7 Raining Cats and Dogs – get started on this block ==> I didn’t touch this either.
  9. Part 4 of Celtic Solstice ==> nothing here either.

For June’s Quilty Goal List here’s what I’ve got…

  1. Easy Street* – Finish the binding and label this baby! 🙂
  2. Practice sandwiches for FMQ** – I need to create a plan for the next 6 months and do the first step
  3. Iris Cameo: Finish quilting the border.

**One of my 2014 Quilty Resolutions

This month we’re in LA for 8 days and we’re doing a tea party for her friends and we’re having a small family thing for Kayla’s 13th birthday.  She really turns 13 in July but since we plan to be living in LA by then we wanted to celebrate with her new friends from the Bay and with our family here.  We’ll have another party when we get back to LA to celebrate our homecoming!  All that to say that I’m not sure I’ll have much quilty time this month.  But one step at a time and eventually things will get done.  My only primary goal is to finish Easy Street.  Everything else can wait if I don’t have time.

Quilty Goals – March, 2014

I only had two items on my list last month and I didn’t get it done.

1. my hand quilt –

20130808-185318.jpg

and 2. quilting easy street

Easy Street Completed Quilt Top! with borders

Easy Street
Completed Quilt Top!
with borders

The hand quilt needs a final quilt stitch along the final border and then all I need to do is bind it and a label :).  I think I just need another two to three hours of sitting in front of the TV to finish it. Easy Street is being machine quilted and that will take several hours quilting on my domestic.  These are the same items on my 1st Quarter FAL list and with only one month left I better get myself together to finish them.

I will keep these on my March goals but will add a few more.  Just like February, we continue to be knee deep in cheer competitions.  There is one next weekend in San Jose, then we’ve got cheer picture day the following weekend, and then another cheer competition in Anaheim that next weekend.  So I need to continue to keep my list short. However I have other things on my list:

  1. continue to stay on track with Tell It To The Stars, Moon Glow, and Hampton Ridge – I’m all caught up with these three BOMs so that is really cool and exciting!  I want to make sure to stay on schedule with them.
  2. A Rainbow Garden – I’m now on Block 4 (finally!).  I just finished block 3 yesterday so I need to get this one going from a-z.

The LONG LIST also called my WISH List

PRIORITIES –
Quilting Station – Easy Street
Piecing Station – The BOMs
Hand Station – Rainbow Garden

Get It Done – February, 2014

I realized that I haven’t done a Get It Done post since 12/1/2013.  I looked on Judy’s site and didn’t see that she did one for January either.  I do not know if she has decided not to do it anymore or forgot with the holidays and other stuff coming up on her blog.  But I really enjoyed doing them – it helped me to focus on what 4 things I really wanted to get done each month (along with some things I’d like to get done).  Some months I was able to get things done other months I didn’t but I always felt like I was moving in the right direction.  So whether Judy continues to do the “Get It Done” posts or not… I think I’ll continue to as I found it really helpful to stay on track.

So for February, I’m only listing two items this month.  The girl has 2 cheer competitions this month and 1 Saturday practice which means that I’m away from quilting for 3 Saturdays.  Then we’re off to Vegas the 4th Saturday to celebrate my hubby’s birthday!  It’s a big one but he doesn’t want to think about it yet.  So I’m keeping my list short this month!

  1. Continue with my hand quilt – This one is really almost done!  Really!
  2. Finish Quilting Easy Street

The LONG LIST also called my WISH List

PRIORITIES –
Quilting Station – Easy Street
Piecing Station – The BOMs and Celtic Solstice
Hand Station – Hand quilt, Raining Cats and Dogs, Rainbow Garden

EDIT – I found A Lovely Year of Finishes and I’m linking here for my February Goals List!

Get It Done – December

November was a tough month quilti-wise.  I definitely didn’t get as much done as in previous months.  Hopefully that turns around in December.  But with the holidays taking over the world, I’m going to take things slow.  I’ll still have what I usually have on my get it done list but my plan is to take things one day at a time and be okay with not getting as much done in this area of my life.

My November List –

  • Hand quilt border #3 on the first quilt – Working on this still.  My plan is to have 3 rings of quilting on border #3.  I have the first ring done and one side of the second ring.

  • Practice Free Motion Quilting –
    • prep practice sandwiches and every week practice a new quilting motif – Not Done
  • Month by Month – Since I was able to squeeze the Long Arm Certification class at my LQS, it would be great to get this project up on the long arm to quilt. – Not Done

Even though I feel like I didn’t get a lot done in November, I feel much better going through my Get It Done list.  I actually got a lot DONE from that list.

GET IT DONE FOR DECEMBER:

BOMs:

  • A Rainbow Garden – 0 October 0 November
  • Hampton Ridge – I just received the next four blocks in the November packet last Wednesday so I’ll be working on that this next month.  The plan is to do a block a week.
  • Moon Glow – I haven’t received the November kit yet.  Based on the calendar on Stitch In Heaven’s website, this should be shipped around 11/27.  Since my credit card has not yet been charged, I’m not sure that that actually happened.  And with the holidays there may be a bit of a delay.  With all my other current projects, I’m okay with the delay. 🙂
  • Lucky Star – This is on the back burner.  I have January’s (2013) half done so all I have to do is finish the other half but it’s at the bottom of the list each month.  This is not a UFO…This is not a UFO… This is not a UFO… 🙂  I will get back to this soon.

WISH LIST:

  • Practice Free Motion Quilting –
    • prep practice sandwiches and every week practice a new quilting motif.
  • Month by Month – Since I was able to squeeze the Long Arm Certification class at my LQS, it would be great to get this project up on the long arm to quilt.
  • Easy Street – Finish quilting this so I can consider this a finish in 2013.
  • Get my 2014 Quilty and Crafty Goals ready for next year.  I’ve been thinking about it but it’s not yet solidified.  Maybe I’ll do a GET IT DONE POST for the whole year in January.

PRIORITIES –
Quilting Station – Easy Street
Piecing Station – Missing Ivy, Celtic Solstice,
Hand Station – Hand quilt, Raining Cats and Dogs, Rainbow Garden

Get It Done – November

Happy Halloween!

My October List –

  • Hand quilt border #2 and #3 on the first quilt – DONE WITH #2
  • Easy Street – Get the backing done and baste it together – NOT DONE
  • Finish block #9 for “Raining Cats and Dogs” – DONE
  • Lucky Star BOM with Elizabeth at Don’t Call Me Betsy – January 2013 – NOT DONE
  • Secret Project #1 – FINISH THE TOP, QUILT AND BIND! – almost done.  It is quilted and all I have to do is finish binding it.

My November List –

  • Hand quilt border #3 on the first quilt – I’m actually working on this now.  I’ve finished the first ring, started the second last night and plan on quilting 2 or 3 more rings.
  • Easy Street – Get the backing done and quilt this baby!
  • Finish block #6 and get started on Block #2 for “Raining Cats and Dogs” – I started Block #6 when I finished Block 9 and I’m on a roll with this project.  I’m enjoying it again and I hope I continue going at this speed.  After Block #2 is done there is only 1 more block left!
  • Secret Project #1 – Well, I have to finish binding it and it’s taking much longer to do it than I thought it would.  I want it done tonight but I’m not sure I’ll be able to finish it.  I was only able to finish one side last night and my fingers hurt. 🙁  The hubby says to relax and that it’s not a big deal if I do not get it done when I want to but —- I WANT TO GET IT DONE!  I know… he’s right.  I’ll do my best but if I can’t it will just have to wait until I come back from my trip south.
  • Missing Ivy – Do Step 1 (whatever that is) – This project got put aside when I went all in on the secret project.  Now that that one is almost done, I’m ready to start working on this one again.

The LONG LIST also called my WISH List

  • Get the fabric for Bonnie Hunter’s 2013 Mystery Quilt – Celtic Solstice
  • The BOMS –
    • Lucky Star – Need to finish the January 2013 Block and get February 2013 done
    • A Rainbow Garden – Need to finish the September 2013 Block and October 2013
    • Hampton Ridge – Need to do Block #3 and Block #4 and the November packet.  I remember this coming in the middle of the month so my plan is to get a block done each week.
    • Moon Glow – starts this month so I’ll be keeping an eye out for it.
  • Practice Free Motion Quilting –
    • prep practice sandwiches and every week practice a new quilting motif
  • Month by Month – Since I was able to squeeze the Long Arm Certification class at my LQS, it would be great to get this project up on the long arm to quilt.

I’m dreaming big again so we’ll see how much I’m able to cross off this list.  Especially since I will be out-of-town next week (11/4).  I’ll be taking a lot of handwork with me but I will not be able to get much done with my sewing machine.  Oh well, I’ll be working, going out to dinners with friends and even meeting a long time client for the first time in person.  So if I can’t sew I might as well as be eating good food with friends! 🙂

What’s going on? It’s Saturday already?

I find myself this morning with a little time to actually update ya’ll on what I’ve been up to this week.  Wednesday passed me by before I realized that I forgot to do my WIP Wednesday post.  So, here’s an update on what I’ve been able to accomplish with my Get It Done list for this month –

  • First Quilt – October goal: Hand quilt border #2 and #3.
Border #2 is done and I’m working on Border #3.  I try to work on this one daily doing one string at a time while I watch TV with the kids or hang out with the hubby.  Lately I have been too tired and not in the mood to pick this up and quilt it.  I know it is going to take longer than the month of October to finish this border because it is bigger than the previous two borders and I plan to quilt it more than the other two.  That may be why I haven’t been as diligent to pick this up every day.  I want to try swirls but the other two borders are pretty much straight hand quilting and I’m afraid it might look weird if I start doing swirls at the very end.  What do you think?  Should I just do it?
  • Easy Street – October goal: Get the backing done and baste it
I’m working on the backing now.  I’m actually half way done with it.  I pulled all the leftover fabric that I had and pieced them together.  I’m not sure I have enough though and I am going to try to finish the backing this weekend.
Block #9 is done!  I finished it yesterday after work.  I want to start on the next block and have already pulled it out of that pile.  I’m not sure I’ll be able to get any of this started but my daily task includes hand applique and without this I will not have any hand applique to do.

Block 9 - Done Raining Cats and Dogs

Block 9 – Done
Raining Cats and Dogs

LInking up with Quilt Story to share.

I haven’t touched this one at all.  I haven’t pulled fabric or even looked at the instructions.  I think this one will wait for a little while.
  • Secret Project #1 – FINISH THE TOP, QUILT AND BIND!
I have two more borders (the top and the bottom) and that finishes the top.  I’ve got to get the backing pieced together.  Since this top involved two jelly rolls and I had a couple of coordinating charm packs, I basically am piecing all my leftover fabric together.  I’ve got a bunch of the rows completed for the back and once the top is really done I can size up the back so that I’ve got enough fabric pieced together.  I want to get both the top and back done this weekend.

PIQF!

Pacific International Quilt Festival is coming up.  It starts Wednesday night and ends Sunday.  As I’ve posted previously, I’ve signed up for a few classes and I’ve been prepping the materials and supplies for each class.  I have only one class left to prepare for and I’ll be doing that this weekend. I wasn’t planning on going shopping but I was told that I HAVE TO GO shopping at this show. 🙂  So I cleared out my credit cards and saved some and I plan on checking out what is there.  I was told to check out the wool booths and to be sure to purchase LIGHTs.  Apparently while there are local shops I can purchase wool from here, it is difficult to find the light variations.  I was also told to get the thread/yarn necessary to applique wool from here as the selection and the price at the show is better than anywhere else.  I was given some more guidelines that I wrote down somewhere so I hope to be able to get some good stuff.  I’m so happy to have met really helpful ladies in my guild who can give me such insight!  I went to the Long Beach quilt show for a couple of years but didn’t have this kind of help so I pretty much just bought kits that caught my fancy.  While that is okay – I think I’m growing as a quilter.  I’m becoming more interested in the different tools that are showcased and how I can use them to help me with my quilting.  This is exciting for me and I’ll try to document this as much as possible!

Get It Done – October

My September List:

  • Hand quilt border #2 (of three) on the first quilt – I can’t believe I wasn’t able to finish this. I’m really almost done.  oh well, I’ll add this to October
  • Finish Block B and Piece all the blocks together for Easy Street – DONE!
  • Next block (#9) for “Raining Cats and Dogs” – I have a few more pieces left to applique down and then I’ve got to embroider.  I’ll move this on to October.
  • Month by Month – Put the story on it’s page; Quilt this on the Long Arm – I really want to quilt this on the long arm at a local quilt shop.  I keep going back and forth.  I’m planning on attending the certification class on 11/2 so we’ll see how far I’ve come with Easy Street and maybe I’ll still do this on a long arm. But we’ll see how I feel after I quilt down Easy Street.
  • Dresden Wall Hanging (25″ x 25″) – practice free motion quilting on my BerninaI decided I didn’t want to do this yet.
  • First BOM – A Rainbow Garden starts in September! – Well I received the block but I’m still waiting on the thread.  I thought I had ordered it but the shop hasn’t charged my card and hasn’t notified me as to when I can expect it.  They haven’t even responded to my email.  Well, I’m a little busy with work right now so I’m not in any rush.  They may just send it with the October supplies.  Hopefully I get it at some point.  I was told that I could get the same stuff at PIQF at a better deal so if I do not receive it by then I’ll just buy all the thread I will need at PIQF.
  • Road to Brenham quilt with Judy at Patchwork Times – get all the fabric – All the fabric has been washed and I started step 1.  But then I got side tracked by secret project #1 that I’ll post about when it’s not secret.
  • Lucky Star BOM with Elizabeth at Don’t Call Me Betsy – December 2012 Practice Block – DONE!

My October List –
