2016 Goals – April mid month update

#1 – Get 6 quilts done in 2016

Quilt #1  – Tell It To The Stars – finished 2/20/2016

Quilt #2 – Scrapitude,2015 ==> YAY!  THIS WAS FINISHED 4/3/2016!!!

Quilt #3 – Moon Glow – everything is ready.  All I need to do is get some fabric and batting onto the frame to test the thread and Bailey.  I haven’t done it yet.  I plan to baste Raining Cats and Dogs first and then I’ll do this.

Quilt #4 – Hampton Ridge – this is in queue. I still need to get the backing and label ready for this. But I will not get going on this until Moon Glow is being quilted.

Quilt #5 – Raining Cats and Dogs – Get Border #2 on and this top is finished!  ==> done!  I finished this top on 4/9/16

Quilt #6 – Celtic Solstice – I pulled out Celtic Solstice and was able to get all the Block As done.  Now I need to press them and figure out what the next step is. ==> I think I worked on this earlier in the month and then got bored and last week pulled out Missing Ivy to work on!

Quilt #7  – Missing Ivy – I pulled this out this month and decided that I wanted to start working on this at the time time as Celtic Solstice.  I plan to focus on Missing Ivy and then work on Celtic Solstice in between.

#2 – Continue to count my stash, with a true effort to not add fabric on a whim.

For March, my goal is to continue to not add to my stash.  I’m in the black for once and I’m loving it.  With all the quilts coming up to be quilted, I’m hoping I’ll be able to stay in the black. ==>I bought more fabric this month but I’m still in the black.  The anniversary sale at my LQS last weekend was too tempting to resist.

#3 – Create a hobby budget a stick to it!

Since QuiltCon I’ve been good.  I only spent $62 in the month of March.  Woohoo!  So as of 4/10/16, I’ve spent $2692.43.  My budget for the year is $3,000 so I only have $40 a month to spend the rest of the year.

#4 – Knit weekly

My goal for April is to work a bit each week on the Rosie Hat.

==> I worked on this once so far.  I’m working on the decreasing so this is almost done. 🙂

#5 – Cross Stitch weekly

My goal for April is to finish the cross stitch part and to work on the embroidery.

==> The cross stitch part is done and I’m working on the embroidery outlining the project.

#6 – Scrapbook

I haven’t done anything for this.  It’s at the bottom of my priority list so… I find that everything else is taking up my crafty time.  I hope that as the months continue my work life is less consuming and I can spend a few extra hours on my crafty stuff. And then be able to spend some time on scrapbooking! 🙂

2016 Goals – March/April update

I’m not sure I got that much done in March.

#1 – Get 6 quilts done in 2016

Quilt #1  – Tell It To The Stars – finished 2/20/2016

Quilt #2 – Scrapitude,2015 – this is now all quilted and I just need to trim and bind it. ==> Almost done!  I only have about a yard left of binding and I’m hoping to get this done this weekend.

Quilt #3 – Moon Glow – the backing is done and will be the next thing I put on the frame to quilt.  First I don’t plan to put this on the frame until April.  There’s no rush to get this done and I’ve got other things on my to do list for March.  So with that in mind, there are some things I need to do to prepare getting this on the frame to quilt.  I need to put some test fabric, batting, and backing and test the thread I want to use.  When I first started quilting Scrapitude I had problems with the first set of threads I used.  I bought particular thread for this quilt so I think I’ll need to play with it and adjust settings if I have any problems before I get the quilt on the frame. ==> I haven’t done this yet.  I’ve been concentrating on binding Scrapitude. I’ll work on getting a sample on the frame and testing the thread and such this month (April).  My goal for April will to get ready for quilting Moon Glow and maybe even get it on the frame.

Quilt #4 – Hampton Ridge – this is in queue. I still need to get the backing and label ready for this. But I will not get going on this until Moon Glow is being quilted.

Quilt #5 – Raining Cats and Dogs – I plan to get the borders on this month.  Then when Hampton Ridge is being quilted, I’ll get the backing together for it. ==> I got border #1 done but still need to do border #2.  This is on my April to do list.

Quilt #6 – Celtic Solstice – I pulled out Celtic Solstice and was able to get all the Block As done.  Now I need to press them and figure out what the next step is. ==> I was able to press most of the Block A’s but I still have a handful to do.  I did get started on the Block B’s so I’m working on these.

==>I bought fabric this month and I’m happy I was able to stick to a fabric diet for as long as I did.  I’m still in the black so it was okay.

#3 – Create a hobby budget a stick to it!

Since QuiltCon I’ve been good.  I only spent $62 in the month of March.  Woohoo!  So as of 3/31/16, I’ve spent $2627.43.  My budget for the year is $3,000 so I only have $50 a month to spend the rest of the year.

#4 – Knit weekly

My goal for March is to work a bit each week on the Rosie Hat.

==> I only worked on this twice this month.  I’m almost done.  I’m done with the body and I am starting the decreases.

#5 – Cross Stitch weekly

My goal for March is to get the right border done.

==> I didn’t get the right border done but I work on this project regularly each week so I’m happy with my progress.

#6 – Scrapbook

For March, grab one of the project boxes and start working on it.

==>  I haven’t done anything on this.  It’s time and that everything is stored so nicely right now.  I do not know where to start but when I do, I’ll be taking things out and then I’ll have to put things back again.  It will take so much effort right now.  I know that once I get started it will not take as much effort to keep doing it.  Just like with Cross Stitching and knitting.  It took a lot of time to get my stuff out and organized before I got in the groove.  Now I cross stitch every week, mostly once but if the mood hits I’ll take it out 2-3 times.  Knitting is easy to get to and I don’t take it out to just do as often but I can easily do it.  Scrapbooking right now feels harder and I’m not sure what I need to get back into it.

2016 Goals – March – Mid Month update

I’m getting a lot done on the quilty side of things.

#1 – Get 6 quilts done in 2016

Quilt #1  – Tell It To The Stars – finished 2/20/2016

Quilt #2 – Scrapitude,2015 – this is now all quilted and I just need to trim and bind it.

#3 – Create a hobby budget a stick to it!

I’m not doing a very good job at sticking to my budget.  But I’m doing a great job tracking what I’m spending and seeing where I’m at with my budget.  I don’t believe I’ll be spending much more the rest of the year since the big shows are done.  I will continue to support my guild and attend the workshops they’ve got planned.  I also plan to support the teachers that come.  So far as of 3/13/16, I’ve spent $2565.43.

#4 – Knit weekly

My goal for March is to work a bit each week on the Rosie Hat.

I’m doing a bit each week but I’m not getting as much done or as quickly as I’ve done in the past.  I think I need to move on to another project but I don’t want a knitting UFO.

#5 – Cross Stitch weekly

My goal for March is to get the right border done.

2016 Goals – March

Okay, this post is a little early but that’s okay.  I feel like sharing where I’m at and it’s a great reminder for me on what is on my list for February.

#1 – Get 6 quilts done in 2016

Quilt #1  – Tell It To The Stars – finished 2/20/2016

Quilt #2 – Scrapitude,2015 – this is on the quilt frame and my goal is to get this quilted this month.

Quilt #3 – Moon Glow – this is in queue.  I plan to get the backing ready for this this month.  As soon as Scrapitude is done, I want this to be ready for quilting.  If everything comes together right, I may be able to get started on quilting this in April.  Label will come later since I’ll be quilting with a dark blue/black thread.

Quilt #6 – TBD… Possibly Celtic Solstice or Missing Ivy.  I think Missing Ivy is closer to being done than Celtic Solstice so it might move up the chain.

So far as of 2/29/16, I’ve spent $2565.43.

#4 – Knit weekly

2016 Goals – February Recap

#1 – Get 6 quilts done in 2016

Tell It To The Stars – Finished! yay!

Bailey is at the shop so I plan on cleaning and checking the level of the frame for Scrapitude 2015 which is the next quilt on the quilt queue.

==> Got Bailey back and the frame is ready.  I hope with this TLC everything runs smoothly.

Scrapitude – Get this on the frame and get this quilted. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get this quilted in February but I’ll be happy to get it on the frame.

==> Scrapitude is on the frame.  I haven’t started quilting it yet though.

#2 – Continue to count my stash, with a true effort to not add fabric on a whim.

For February, my goal is to continue to not add to my stash and with Tell It To the Stars done, I would like to be in the black for once in my life. 🙂

==> I bought a yard at QuiltCon and I won a bit too.  But with Tell It To The Stars finished, I was able to count that fabric out.  For the first time EVER, I’m in the black.  I’m ecstatic and happy about this.

#3 – Create a hobby budget a stick to it!

I may have bought something at my guild meeting last Monday.  I’ll report it on Sunday but I’m not fairing too well with this goal.  Oh well, as my first year doing this one, it’s very similar to counting stash where my numbers were way high the first year.  It took 3 years before I got to where I am now with my stash numbers. I’ll just keep tracking it.  I’m embarrassed at how much I spend but it is what it is.  I’m sure as I keep tracking it, I’ll discover things about myself like I did when I started reporting my stash ins and outs.

==> With QuiltCon, I haven’t yet exceeded my annual budget but with it only being February, I don’t have high hopes of staying within the budget for the year.  I’m going to try though.  I love to support my guilds and the teachers they bring out so it will be tough.

#4 – Knit weekly

My goal for February is to get the Rosie Hat done.

==> Things have slowed down on this front.  Ever since my wrist/elbow started hurting again I only work a bit on my knitting from week to week.  I am still hoping to get this done in February.  I just need to remind myself that this is one of the things I want to do this month.

#5 – Cross Stitch weekly

My goal for February was to get the bottom right corner complete and the letter “E” of welcome done. Here’s a pic of the project so you can see what I’m talking about. I need to take a picture but I’ve got that bottom right corner complete so the next thing I will be working on is the “E” of welcome.  I’ve also started outlining some of the details on the bottom border.

img_9373

==> Last half of February I didn’t do much on this project.  But here’s where I ended the month at and I’m happy with my progress.  I hope I have more time to spend on this on March.

#6 – Scrapbook

For February, I want to get those pictures onto pages.  I also want to go into one of my project bags to see where I left off.  Ideally, I’d like to start where I left off so I can empty out the project bags and use them for my 2015/2016 album.

==> I still haven’t done anything on this. /boo  There was just not enough time to do everything I want to do this month.

2016 Goals – February Goals Mid Month Update

Okay, this post is a little early but that’s okay.  I feel like sharing where I’m at and it’s a great reminder for me on what is on my list for February.

#1 – Get 6 quilts done in 2016

Tell It To The Stars – I’m working on the binding now!  Woohoo!  I am trying to get this done this week so I can just be finished with it.  This will definitely be done this month.

Bailey is at the shop so I plan on cleaning and checking the level of the frame for Scrapitude 2015 which is the next quilt on the quilt queue.

Scrapitude – Get this on the frame and get this quilted. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get this quilted in February but I’ll be happy to get it on the frame.

2016 Goals – January Recap/February Goals

#1 – Get 6 quilts done in 2016

I’m continuing to work on quilting Tell It To The Stars.  I’m working on the green sections and I’m really almost done with it.  The next step is the border and I’m debating if I should continue to work on the frame or move it off and onto my domestic machine.  I’m leaning towards that end as that will free the mid arm and I can bring it in to get serviced sooner rather than later.  Once the border is done, all I have to do is bind it.  The label is already part of the back so I’m almost done with project and I can have my first finish of the year!

For February, my goal is to get Tell It To the Stars DONE – bound and all!  And, get Bailey serviced.  If I can, I’d like to get Quilt #2 (Scrapitude 2015) on the frame and start the quilting on that.  This one is going to be a simple meander so it shouldn’t take too long and I hope to get it all done in March.

#2 – Continue to count my stash, with a true effort to not add fabric on a whim.

I made it through the month of January without adding to my stash! woohoo!  Better yet, I made it through a show – the biggest show in the west – without adding to my stash!  Double Woohoo!  It’s as I’ve thought before… as long as I’m quilting regularly, I don’t have the urge to buy fabric.

For February, my goal is to continue to not add to my stash and with Tell It To the Stars done, I would like to be in the black for once in my life. 🙂

#3 – Create a hobby budget a stick to it!

While I’ve managed not to add fabric, I’ve managed to spend half my hobby budget for the year in January!  My annual budget is $3,000 and I’ve already spent $1504.22.  I’m not sure how I will make it through the rest of the year but I’m going to try and restrain myself.  I bought things I’ve been eyeing for years so I believe the rest of the year should be pretty minimal.  I’ll be attending QuiltCon in Pasadena this month so there will be a bit of spending there but I’m not planning on doing the kind of damage I did at Road.

#4 – Knit weekly

I have been doing a bit of knitting every week.  I’m starting the second part of the cable for the Rosie Hat.  I need to do about 10 rows and then I can start decreasing.  I ran out of yarn, which was really weird as I thought I had enough.  That’s okay.  I added another purple that is not the same purple but I’m just practicing on my skills.

My goal for February is to get the Rosie Hat done. Here’s an outdated pic of it so you can see what I’m talking about.

img_9279-1

#5 – Cross Stitch weekly

Again, I’m getting a bit done each week and I’m progressing nicely.  I think at the pace I’ve been going at I can get the bottom right corner complete and the letter “E” of welcome done. Here’s a pic of the project so you can see what I’m talking about. The picture is outdated as I’ve been working on it since my last post, I just haven’t taken a picture yet.

img_9373

#6 – Scrapbook

Here’s what I got done in January for Scrapbooking –

  1. I got all the supplies out of the garage
  2. I went through what I had and consolidated them from the many bags
  3. Organized them into my closet.  It stayed awhile on the floor and really irritated me to no end but now it’s nicely stored in my closet.
  4. Printed pictures from Dec. 2015 to start up with current pictures.
  5. I picked the album that I will use right now for current pictures.

For February, I want to get those pictures onto pages.  I also want to go into one of my project bags to see where I left off.  Ideally, I’d like to start where I left off so I can empty out the project bags and use them for my 2015/2016 album.

2016 Goals – January Mid Month Update

#1 – Get 6 quilts done in 2016

I’m continuing to work on quilting Tell It To The Stars.  I’m working on the light blue sections, then I’ll work on the green sections and then finally the border.  I’m hoping to get this done this month (that’s January, 2016). 🙂 I can already tell that this may not happen.  I really only work on this during the weekend because as soon as I have an issue, I just stop with frustration.

#2 – Continue to count my stash, with a true effort to not add fabric on a whim.

So, I’ve never committed to not buying fabric before. It is actually much easier to do this now than it was before.  After 3 years of tracking and counting fabric, the urge to buy fabric doesn’t hit me as much now as it used to.  Part of it is the discovery that I generally buy fabric when I’m not quilting as much as I would like.  So, I make sure to quilt as often as possible.  It generally works out to quilting every weekend with the odd weekend away here and there.  In writing this I realize that I have a HUGE caveat to this goal… and that is – I’m allowed to buy fabric (if I so choose) at the quilt shows I’ll be going to and when we go to Florida and Myrtle Beach for our family vacation this coming summer.  I will continue to count my stash every Sunday and link up to Judy’s Sunday Stash report.

#3 – Create a hobby budget a stick to it!

I created my hobby budget and it is $3,000 for the year.  I know it sounds like a lot but it’s for everything crafty/hobby related.  In addition to my normal quilty stuff, that includes yarn and printing pictures, trips to Joann’s, Craftsy classes, etc.  I’ll track this on Sunday’s with the other things I’m tracking because that will help keep me within the budget.  I’ll be heading over to Road2California this week so my budget for this trip is $450.

#4 – Knit weekly

I just want to make sure I do a bit every week.  I was rolling along pretty quickly on my Rosie Hat but then my wrist and arm started hurting.  That was a forced break last week so I was only able to work on my knitting once.  I’m also not a very fast knitter so I pretty much only do 2 rows each sitting.  It also helps make sure I do not overtax my wrist and arm.  I generally have a problem with my wrist/arm at the middle of every quarter.  I work my butt off in the beginning of the quarter doing my client’s quarterly bills and invoices and quarterly reports so that’s when I usually have a problem.  I’ve spent the last couple of years getting good ergonomic equipment like my keyboard and my mouse.  In the office I have a standing desk that goes up and down so I can have it up when I want to stand and down when I want to sit.  When I’m sitting, it’s at a perfect height to my chair.  My home office desk isn’t as nice. It’s a standard sitting one and I think my next big purchase will be a standing desk for my home office.  I love them but there aren’t any drawers or filing cabinets.  It’s why I haven’t upgraded my home office desk yet.  Anyway, my wrist/arm hasn’t been hurting that much the past 2 years because I’m pretty good now about stopping, putting my wrist guard on when I think it’s going to start hurting and just generally good self care.  I get regular massages and trips to the chiropractor.  It sure helps to exercise and yoga is my favorite form of exercise.  I could stand to lose more pounds but I enjoy my bread a little too much!  🙂  Anyway, this is a long story to say that I will surely be slow but I’ll be happy to just plod along each week as long as I touch the knittings once weekly.

#5 – Cross Stitch weekly

Similar to knitting, I want to cross stitch weekly.  The ultimate goal is to finish the “welcome” project and then get started on my farm project this year.  This will also be a slow project but this one will be easier to post pictures weekly.  The knitting is hard to see unless I remember to take a pic during the weekend when I can get out during the sunny day.  Unfortunately, I’m not usually able to remember that since I’m generally knitting at night.  But it’s nice to see the cross stitch project coming along.  I’m working on the bottom border right now.  I want to post an update weekly so I can see progress from week to week.

#6 – Scrapbook

I would really love to work on scrapbooking weekly but I already can tell that that may not happen.  I’m okay with that.  I just want to scrapbook some and if it’s every other week or once a month, I’ll be happy with that.  I still have all the scrapbooking stuff on the side of my sewing room but I really can’t figure out where I’m going to put them.  I figure I just need to get started on actually scrapbooking again and then it may be easier for me to figure out where to put them all.  A couple of weeks ago, I printed a bunch of pictures and they were delivered last week.  Now I’ve got stuff I can actually scrapbook.  I also plan on going over some of my old scrapbooks that I never completed and finish them.

Here’s a link to my original 2016 Goals.

Here’s to a great year!

Stash Report – 10/27/13

I’ve been chipping away at my hand quilt, Raining Cats and Dogs and the BOMs I’m working on right now: Hampton Ridge, Rainbow Garden, and Lucky Stars.  The secret project is almost done.  I only need to finish quilting about a fourth of it and then it’s ready for binding.  I did go to the quilt shop yesterday because I didn’t have anything to bind it with.  I’m not sure where my calculations went wrong when I initially bought fabric but I’m guessing I didn’t get it from the beginning.  So I’ve got to add a little for that.  My girl came with me and purchased fabric for her hair bows too.  I’m not adding her purchases however she has been using my stash so while I do not have anything USED to add to my report on my progress my girl has used about a yard of fabric from my stash on her hair bows.

Stash count: **I started counting 5/23/13…

Used this week: 1 yards
Used year to Date: 28.5 yards
Added this Weeks: 1 yards
Added Year to Date: 153.25 yards

Some great news is that I took the Long Arm Certification class at my LQS.  Now I have the option to rent their long arms for Easy Street if I wanted to.  I am still not sure if I’m going to because I’m getting the hang of quilting on my little Bernina and I think I’m just going to use straight lines to quilt Easy Street.  But if I want to – I can!  I was able to play around with it and actually quilting with it didn’t seem hard.  It did seem hard to load the machine but I guess with anything, it should be okay when I’ve done it a few times.  And even though I had the color information with me at LQS I didn’t buy fabric for Bonnie Hunter’s Celtic Solstice Mystery Quilt starting up in a few weeks.  I think I’m excited about it but I’m not mentally there yet.  I really need to get this secret project done and off my plate before I can even think about a new project or moving on to another one.  The quilting part will be done today so it’s not too long now. 🙂

And something odd happened to me this morning when I woke up… I wanted to scrapbook.  Weird!  I haven’t felt that pull in a long time.  I think it has to do with the fact that last weekend I had to get some pictures printed for my son’s school project.  I decided to add a hundred or so pictures from the last few months to that print job to make it worthwhile in my head.  So I’ve got an envelope of pictures and I wanted to get them in a scrapbook.  Well – all my stuff comes from Creative Memories from way back when 2007 or so and they are all sitting in my garage.  The problem is that I haven’t scrapbooked since then and I have a TON of pictures from then until now waiting for me to get that bug in me again.  Well whenever I do catch a bit of that bug this pops in my head- I cannot replenish my CM stuff so I want to start with the older pictures and work my way in chronological order so that my CM stuff is used with each other.  And when the CM stuff is used I can start buying albums again.  So that was the second thing I thought about when the scrapbook bug hit me.  It’s just easier to quilt… 🙂  However I think in my sleepy head I decided to just go buy an album to start.  Otherwise it will stay in boxes in the garage until someone throws them out by mistake.  So – I may just do that and get those pictures into a book.  yay!

Wish I was quilting (and maybe scrapbooking)!
