2016 December Goals

It’s the last month of the year and the final month to accomplish all the goals for 2016!  It’s also a time of reflection and a time to start thinking about next year.

My OMG goal for November was to finish Missing Ivy! But I didn’t do it.  So now it is my OMG goal for December.

Missing Ivy Finished top! 10/10/16

Missing Ivy
Finished top!
10/10/16

The top is finished and the back is ready.  I need to press everything, trim the batting and get on the long arm at my local Bernina dealer.

#1 – Get 6 quilts done in 2016

Quilt #1  – Tell It To The Stars – finished 2/20/2016

Quilt #2 – Scrapitude,2015 ==> finished 4/3/2016

Quilt #3 – Moon Glow – finished 7/30/2016

Quilt #4 – Hampton Ridge – finished 9/29/2016!

Quilt #5 – Raining Cats and Dogs – top was finished on 4/9/2016.  I need to continue hand quilting this baby.  Even if I do a bit at a time.  I don’t know if that will happen this month with everything else that is going on.  If I do, great.  If I don’t, oh well – it will be there for 2017.

Quilt #6 – Missing Ivy – Press the top, press the back, trim the batting and quilt it.  Then I got to bind it.

Quilt #7 – Have Yourself a Quilty Little Christmas! – I have the final kit for this project and I need to get the border on.  Then I want this to be one of the finishes for 2016 so I’ll need to quilt and bind it by year end.  It’s a small quilt so I’m planning on just doing it on my domestic.

Quilt #8 – Celtic Solstice – My plan for the rest of the year is to get the top done and then have this ready for quilting in January 2017.  I didn’t finish getting the inner top done but I’m very close.  I would like to get the top done (including borders) for December.

Quilt #9 – LQS 2012 BOM “Provence” – I’m not going to have a goal other than to work on this as I work on Bonnie Hunter’s En Provence.

Quilt #10 – 2012 SoCal Quilter’s Run Mystery Quilt – Area One – This is on hold until January.

Quilt #11 – Scrapitude 2016 – I will continue to work on clue #1 as my leader/ender.

#2 – Continue to count my stash, with a true effort to not add fabric on a whim.

As of 11/30/2016, I’m at net Added 37.972 yards for the year.

#3 – Create a hobby budget and stick to it!

My budget for the year was $3,000 and I surpassed it.  I’ve adjusted this goal to simply continue tracking how much I spend on my hobbies.

==> Current crafty spending for 2016 as of 11/30/2016 is $4,571.73

#4 – Knit weekly

Finish my pink/blue socks.

#5 – Cross Stitch weekly

Continue my progress on this.

Now that we have a date for the crafty girls’ weekend retreat.  I need to book a place.  I will probably not do this until January since we scheduled our retreat for the weekend after Easter 2017 and that’s in April.  I’m thinking of renting a small house in San Louis Obispo or some coastal CA town.

2016 Goals – November Update

Time is flying by way too fast! 🙂

My OMG goal for November was to finish Missing Ivy! But I didn’t do it.

Missing Ivy Finished top! 10/10/16

Missing Ivy
Finished top!
10/10/16

The top is finished and the back is ready.  I need to press everything, trim the batting and get on the long arm at my local Bernina dealer.  But I haven’t done it yet.  I really want to get this done soon.  So I’ll be able to accomplish my #1 goal for 2016.

#1 – Get 6 quilts done in 2016

Quilt #1  – Tell It To The Stars – finished 2/20/2016

Quilt #2 – Scrapitude,2015 ==> finished 4/3/2016

Quilt #3 – Moon Glow – finished 7/30/2016

Quilt #4 – Hampton Ridge – finished 9/29/2016!

Quilt #5 – Raining Cats and Dogs – top was finished on 4/9/2016.  Keep going on the hand quilting.  I’m working on quilting the backgrounds with the cream thread.  My goal is to get the second row done.

== Not done.  I haven’t touched this in a long time.  Not sure why other than I haven’t been interested in doing hand quilting.

Quilt #6 – Missing Ivy – Press the top, press the back, trim the batting and quilt it.  Then I got to bind it.

== Not done.  I need to schedule time on the long arm and get going on this.

Quilt #7 – Have Yourself a Quilty Little Christmas! – The scrappy border kit will be released while we are in Colorado so as soon as I get back I will be heading to the LQS to pick it up and start working on it.  My goal is to get this top done this month since I want to get this quilted in December.

== I did pick up the kit but haven’t gotten started on this.  I’m hoping to get going on this this week.

Quilt #8 – Celtic Solstice – My plan for the rest of the year is to get the top done and then have this ready for quilting in January 2017.  For November I want to get the inner top done so I can work on the borders in December.   That seems like a lot but I’m dreaming big.

== I did not get the inner top done but I’m very close.  I plan to get the inner top done for December and get started on working on the border.  I hope I could get all the borders on so I can quilt this in January but I haven’t looked to see how much border I need to do.

Quilt #9 – LQS 2012 BOM “Provence” – My goal is to get the the alternative blocks done and maybe have the alternative blocks paired up with the main blocks.

== I did get the alternative blocks done and I started pairing them with the main blocks.  But I’ve got about more to pair them together.

Quilt #10 – 2012 SoCal Quilter’s Run Mystery Quilt – Area One – Work on the blocks I have fabric for on the 2 available Fridays before Bonnie Hunter releases the first clue of En Provence!

== I’ve got 2 of the clues finished for this and I’ll be holding off on this until January.

Quilt #11 – Scrapitude 2016 – I pulled this out and started working on clue #1 as my leader/ender.

== Yes… I am working on this project as my leader/ender.

#2 – Continue to count my stash, with a true effort to not add fabric on a whim.

As of 10/31/2016, I’m at net ADDED 36.972 yards for the year.

As of 11/30/2016, I’m at net Added 37.972 yards for the year.  I’ve only added 1 yard for the month!  Can you believe that?  I’m amazed and I know it’s entirely because I’ve been counting the fabric I bring in and the fabric I use up.

#3 – Create a hobby budget and stick to it!

My budget for the year was $3,000 and I surpassed it.  I’ve adjusted this goal to simply continue tracking how much I spend on my hobbies.

==> Current crafty spending for 2016 as of 10/31/2016 is $4,499.85.

==> Current crafty spending for 2016 as of 11/30/2016 is $4,571.73

#4 – Knit weekly

I’ve started several projects and haven’t taken pictures or listed any of them.  In addition to knitting each project a bit at a time, my goal this month is to show them all to you every Saturday.  I started a new set of socks, a beannie, and a shawl.  The socks are my TV knitting or just daily knitting, the beanie is my Clipper basketball game knitting, and the shawl is my car knitting.

==> I finished the Clipper beanie.  In addition to the socks mentioned above, I started 2 other pairs of socks.  The first one is pink/blue and the first sock is practically done.  The toe part needs to be grafted and then I can continue on to the second sock.  I also took pictures of things and posted about them here.  It’s a little dated now but gives you an idea of what things look like until I have a chance to post another update.

#5 – Cross Stitch weekly

Continue progressing. ==> Not much progress here as this was a busy month and I got caught with the knitting bug that took up a lot of my cross stitch time.

2016 Goals – October Update

My OMG goal for October is to finish Missing Ivy!

Missing Ivy 9/25/16

Missing Ivy
9/25/16

This was an ambitious goal because the top was not yet done.  I had borders to do and I was able to get my butt in gear and finish it earlier this month.

Missing Ivy Finished top! 10/10/16

Missing Ivy
Finished top!
10/10/16

My goal was to finish Missing Ivy this month but I ran out of weekends to do it.  They got filled fast!  So rather than stress myself out over my self-imposed deadline I pushed this out to November and I’m hoping to get this quilted after we get back from Colorado in a couple of weeks.  That will give me a couple of weeks after to get the binding done.

#1 – Get 6 quilts done in 2016

Quilt #1  – Tell It To The Stars – finished 2/20/2016

Quilt #2 – Scrapitude,2015 ==> finished 4/3/2016

Quilt #6 – Missing Ivy – Here’s my plan to get this done this month!

week 1 – finish the top – Done

week 2 – piece the back, including label – done

10/30 – prep batting – not done … changed this to the week of 11/14

11/5- quilt this on the rented long arm – not done … changed this to the week of 11/14

bind the rest of November…. 11/21-11/30 🙂

Quilt #7 – Have Yourself a Quilty Little Christmas! – If I understood Susan (our fearless BOM leader) at our last meeting, this month’s kit was the final kit for blocks.  I believe next month we’ll be working on the border.  Since I’ve been pretty much on top of this BOM, I think this will be ready to quilt in November.  I’m planning on a simple cross hatch or double cross hatch.  This project is smaller than my normal massive queen/king quilts so I think I can use my domestic for quilting this.

=== I thought I was wrong but October is the last month for blocks.  I picked it up last week and hope to get it finished this weekend.

=== done.  The inner top is complete and we’ll be working on the scrappy border in November.

Quilt #8 – Celtic Solstice – My plan for the rest of the year is to get the top done and then have this ready for quilting in January 2017.  I don’t know what finishing the rest of this top entails but I hope to get all the Block B’s finished this month.

==> I got all the Block B’s finished and I started piecing Block A’s to Block B’s in pairs.  I hope to get these done by 11/8.

Quilt #9 – LQS 2012 BOM “Provence” – I didn’t have time to work on this project at all.  I hope that with Hampton Ridge finished, I’ll have some time to get this back on my project lineup.  With my ambitious plans to get Missing Ivy finished this month, that may not happen but one can always plan and hope! 🙂

===> I actually pulled this out and got through a step for the alternative blocks this month.

===> I got through 2 rounds of all the alternative blocks.  I need the 3rd and final round and then I believe the next step is to start piecing the alternative blocks to the blocks.

#2 – Continue to count my stash, with a true effort to not add fabric on a whim.

As of 9/25/2016, I’m at net ADDED 31.375 yards.  I still need to take into account Hampton Ridge but that will happen tomorrow for my stash report.  In the meantime, this is AWESOME as my historical trend from year to year is going down.  At the same point in time for the last few years, here’s where I’ve been at.

  • 2015 – 41.58 Added yards
  • 2014 – 59.875 Added yards
  • 2013 – 121.75 Added yards

It’s cool to be able to look back and see where I’ve been.  And even though I’ve added so far this year overall I can see that I am getting better at not buying fabric just to buy fabric.

===> As of 10/31/2016, I’ve added 36.972

#3 – Create a hobby budget and stick to it!

My budget for the year was $3,000 and I surpassed it.  I’ve adjusted this goal to simply continue tracking how much I spend on my hobbies.

==> Current crafty spending for 2016 as of 9/25/2016 is $4,262.35.

==> As of 10/31/2016, my current spending is $4,499.85

I’m hoping that over time my spending will go down from year to year (similar to what happened with my stash report).  Since this is the first year of me tracking this, it’s still our base line.

#4 – Knit weekly

Now that I’m progressing along with my one sock I would really love to get this one sock done this month and get started on the second sock. 🙂

=== the first sock is done and I’m working on the second sock.  I actually started several projects since I’m in the mood for knitting. 🙂

Missing Ivy
Finished top!
10/10/16

I worked on getting the back done and woot woot, it’s done.  I still need to get a picture but the best part is that the label is pieced into the back.  The plan this week was to get the batting trimmed and ready so I could rent the long arm at the shop this weekend.  Well, that didn’t happen and there comes a time when one has to stop, breathe, and be real.  I’m not going to rush to get this done.  Basically, I need to get this quilted this weekend to have any hope of getting this done this month.  Next weekend I’ll be out of town and the weekend after that is the last weekend of October.  And I’ve got a class that weekend and will not be able to rent the long arm.  So 11/5 is the next weekend I’ll be able to quilt this.  I decided in the middle of the week to give myself grace.  I’m turning 40 in a few days and I’m having a hard time with it.  I don’t know why.  I feel like an idiot for it.  But that is what it is and I need to step away from the quilt.  For now.  I can still get this done in November and still be on track to get 6 quilts finished this year.  And if I don’t.  I am okay with that too.  If I finish at 5 that would be the most quilts I finished in one year ever.

#1 – Get 6 quilts done in 2016

2016 Goals – October Goals

My OMG goal for October is to finish Missing Ivy!  This is quite a stretch as the top is not yet done.  And I still need to piece the back and quilt it, and bind it, and get a label on.  That’s a lot for me to try to get done in one month.  But I need to step it into high gear if I really want to get 6 quilts done this year.  I’m at 4 so I only have 3 months left to finish 2 so I’m going to try.  If you’ve been following along you’ll know that Celtic Solstice was actually on the list before Missing Ivy.  But at this stage, Missing Ivy is further along than Celtic Solstice so I decided to bump this to the front of the line now that Hampton Ridge is finished! 🙂   I’m not sure Celtic Solstice will be ready in time to finish completely in 2016 but with the rate I’ve been going on Have Yourself a Little Quilty Christmas, I may be able to bump that up and get it done for Christmas! 🙂  I’m planning to do simple quilting on that one so it should be easy.  [famous last words…]

Quilt #8 – Celtic Solstice – My plan for the rest of the year is to get the top done and then have this ready for quilting in January 2017.  I don’t know what finishing the rest of this top entails but I hope to get all the Block B’s finished this month.

2016 Goals – September Update

My OMG goal for September was to quilt Hampton Ridge and it’s done!  Of course, I haven’t had a chance to take a picture of it. 🙁  But trust me, the binding is on.  I kind of figured out how to use the embroidery function of my new machine to do the label and it’s on!  I’ll get some helpers to hold it up over the weekend so I can snap a picture of it.  In the meantime, here’s the same old pic…

#1 – Get 6 quilts done in 2016

Quilt #1  – Tell It To The Stars – finished 2/20/2016

Quilt #2 – Scrapitude,2015 ==> finished 4/3/2016

Quilt #6 – Celtic Solstice – Get all the third rows pieced for block B.  I only need about 20 more so I hope I can get these done as leaders/enders for other projects.

==> done. All the third rows are pieced and now I’m piecing the actual block B’s together as leaders and enders.

==> I’ve got about 15 or so blocks put together but I don’t think I can continue to use these as leaders and enders.  I did spend some time this week getting the blocks done for Have yourself a quilty little Christmas but by the last block – didn’t feel like pinning the block B’s to use as leaders and enders.

Quilt #7  – Missing Ivy – I ran out of fabric last month and it really put me behind.  So, this month, I need to get more fabric or make a design decision.  Whatever ends up happening, I want this top to be done in September!  I want my OMG goal in October to be to quilt and finish this baby! woot woot!

==> almost done.  I have all the fabric I need to finish the top (I think) so I’m just working on putting the borders together.  The quilt has a total of 9 borders.  I got the first three on and I’m working on getting the next set on.  I actually have all the fabric cut and borders # 5-9 ready to go.  Border #4 is cut but I need to get all the strips pieced together before I can start measuring and cutting and piecing again. I’m working on getting the top done this month.

==> guess what… I didn’t have all the fabric I needed.  I ran out of the yellow/gold fabric again!  So I trekked it over to the not so fave LQS and bought more (at least what I thought was more).  Brought it home, washed it, pressed it and went to cut it when I realized that it was the wrong fabric!  I had to go to the shop again but this time I had the fabric with me to compare.  I washed it with some bit of laundry last night so after work today, I’ll be folding laundry and pressing my bit of fabric.  I hope I’ll have enough energy to start cutting.  I had enough for 2 sides of this border but needed a bit more for the last 2 sides.  I have 1 of those sides on so I can theoretically start piecing the 2nd side once I’ve got time to do so.

Quilt #8 – LQS 2012 BOM “Provence” – I fell off this wagon and I hope that I will have some time the second half of September to get back to this project.

==> I’m concentrating on finishing Hampton Ridge and Missing Ivy so once I’ve cleared my plate a little, I plan to work on this more regularly.

#2 – Continue to count my stash, with a true effort to not add fabric on a whim.

When I get Hampton Ridge finished, my stash report will be in a good spot.  I think I’ll still be in the red but not by much.  I do need to add to my stash in order to get the borders finished on Missing Ivy but once that top is done, I’ll be able to quilt it and then I’ll be in the black again. 🙂

==> Now that Hampton Ridge is finished, my stash report this coming Sunday will start trending to the black.

#3 – Create a hobby budget and stick to it!

My budget for the year was $3,000 and I surpassed it.  I’ve adjusted this goal to simply continue tracking how much I spend on my hobbies.

==> Current crafty spending for 2016 as of 8/31/2016 is $3,983.08.

#4 – Knit weekly

I’m going to try watching a football game each week and using that as my knitting time.  I believe we’re still in Pre-Season so I’ll have to figure out what the schedule is.  Hopefully it will fit appropriately.

==> Guess what???  Now that we’re heading into fall I’m starting to work on my sock project again!  Of course, it’s not pre-season anymore and I’m watching a lot of football.  Lately I’ve been using the time to bind Hampton Ridge but I have gotten further along on my sock project this month.  I am about halfway through the foot now.  And then I can work on my second foot.  It helps that I can try it on because I get excited and am wanting to get it done now.

#6 – Scrapbook

I talked with my sister who scrapbooked with me when I was into that and we were talking about doing a weekend retreat where we can work on our crafts.  We thought it would be a great girl thing to do for the ladies in our family.  I think I need to get this on the calendar and let that be my goal for September.

==>  Okay I haven’t gotten this done BUT I am thinking April will be a good time to actually do this.  I need to check with my sister to see if this works for her.

==> right now I’m working on hand stitching the binding to the back.  I’m still about halfway through that.  I hope to get that done soon and stitch a label on shortly thereafter.  I don’t know how to use the embroidery function on my new machine yet so I’ll be heading to my Bernina dealer for some help for that. 🙂

2016 Goals – August End of the Month Update

My OMG goal for August is to quilt Hampton Ridge.

==> I didn’t get this done.  But I got most of it quilted.  I got 95% of it quilted over the weekend and then pulled it off the frame to finish up the borders.  I need more practice quilting the borders on the frame.  I have some of the borders quilted but not all.  So over the next week I’ll be working on finishing the quilting on 3 borders.

#1 – Get 6 quilts done in 2016

Quilt #1  – Tell It To The Stars – finished 2/20/2016

Quilt #2 – Scrapitude,2015 ==> finished 4/3/2016

Quilt #3 – Moon Glow – finished 7/30/2016

Quilt #4 – Hampton Ridge

==> Almost done quilting.  I need to go through the left over fabric and see if I have enough for binding or if I need to go through my stash or buy something.

Quilt #5 – Raining Cats and Dogs – top was finished on 4/9/2016.  Per my post yesterday, this is on the hand quilting frame. 🙂

Quilt #6 – Celtic Solstice – continue to piece bits as leaders/enders.

==> this is being worked on a bit at a time.  I’m working on piecing the third row of Block B.  I believe I’ve got 44 rows done and I need about 20 more.

Quilt #7  – Missing Ivy – finish step 14

==> working on these.  I ran out of fabric for the final borders and I have to go to my not so favorite LQS to see if they’ve got what I’m looking for.  I visited my favorite LQS and they didn’t have it so on to the not so favorite.  If they don’t have it, I’ll have to make some creative design decisions. 🙂

Quilt #8 – LQS 2012 BOM “Provence” – Continue working on the alternative block.

==> haven’t touched this all month.

#2 – Continue to count my stash, with a true effort to not add fabric on a whim.

==> Added a lot this month with the guild’s treasure hunt.  I’m okay with that.  I washed all the fabric and while not everything is quilt shop quality or not 100% cotton, I folded them up and put it in my stash.  It barely fit.  Actually it didn’t fit, I had to use another bin that I had emptied out the last time I organized the stash closet.  🙂

#3 – Create a hobby budget a stick to it!

My budget for the year was $3,000 and I surpassed it.  I’ve adjusted this goal to simply continue tracking how much I spend on my hobbies.

==> Current crafty spending for 2016 as of 8/31/2016 is $3,983.08.

#4 – Knit weekly

My goal for August is to get back to working on my purple socks each week.  I really need to work on this more than one weekend each month if I want these done in any sort of time frame.  I’ll change my goal so that I work on this once a week.  I just realized that I still have to do the other sock. ;0

==> I didn’t do this.  I think I worked on it once this month.  Football season is starting and I think I’ll pull these out and knit while watching one game a week.

#6 – Scrapbook

… The boy had to do some personal history project for school so we actually pulled out a box of pictures and older albums.  He actually read some of the stories.  It inspired me to start working on this again but not enough to actually do anything.  There is just not enough time to do this right now.
