Stash Report – Week 16, 2014

20140406-112405.jpg

Last week I forgot to mention that I did put together this little make up bag/pencil case.  So I can say that I used about half a yard.  This is the kit I purchased in Anaheim to help get me started in making bags.  Things went wrong somewhere when I was supposed to sew the corners in to make it boxy but it ended up flattening out the box.  I’m going to try this project again and pay attention to where I sew that final spot.

Moon Glow BOM Block 4 Finished April 19, 2014

Moon Glow BOM
Block 4 Finished
April 19, 2014

Other than that, nothing has been used.  But I’ve got nothing added  as well.  I finished up Block 4 for Moon Glow and I love how it turned out.  I actually started this block last weekend but wasn’t able to finish it until yesterday.

I took a break from quilting Easy Street this weekend but will put it back on the machine tomorrow.  I’ve got 10 blocks left to quilt and then the border.  For April, my goal is to finish the quilting and then in May I’ll finish it up with the binding and the label.  So with 10 days left until the end of April, I will need to do 1-2 blocks per day and then do the borders.  I may put it in the machine later today to get a head start on it. I’m not a fast quilter and I don’t like to spend a lot of time at one sitting.  My machine doesn’t sit in a table, it’s just on a table so I get tired really fast.  When we move back to LA, I’m planning to invest in a table.  I’m not yet sure what kind of table as it will depend on the type of place (how big or small it is) we move into.  But I’ll start checking out my options now.

Stash Report – Week 15, 2014

Nothing used and nothing added.  A success in my mind!  I was in LA this past week so travelling always brings out the pocketbook if there’s a quilt shop nearby.  Unfortunately (or fortunately for my pocketbook) I was too busy to visit my LA LQS.  I miss the shop, the clubs and classes and the ladies.  I cannot wait to renew my regular visits when we move back in June.

Now what’s next?  I’ve got about 8 other things on my list of things I want to do this month so I’ll be checking that list to see what I will do next. I have a feeling it has something to do with a BOM and catching up. 🙂

I was convinced last Wednesday that I only needed to spend a couple of hours finishing up the last row of quilting.  Then I could bind and label it.  But when I got started I realized I still needed to finish up the second row before I could quilt the final row.  I only had time to work on it twice this past week but now I only have 1.5 sides to quilt on the final row.  Then I can bind and label it.  I’m in the running but it may be a tight finish with only 2 nights available for me to finish before the end of the quarter. I know there are more days and nights until quarter end but I will not be in town and available to quilt during those times.

This quilt has been a WIP so long, I’m no longer enjoying the fabric and color selection.  These colors were so 2006 for me. 🙂  At this point, I really just want this done.  I’m sure years from now after I stop looking at it as that WIP that just kept WIPPING I’ll fall back in love with it.  But right now – I just want to get it done.

A Finish!  But I can’t show pictures yet.  I will as soon as I can.  Over the next few days I’ll be working on my hand quilt.

I’m convinced I only need a couple of hours to finish hand quilting this baby.  It’s my first quilt ever from 2006 and I’ve been hand quilting it on and off since I finished putting it together in 2007.  I only have 1 or two rows left of the final border, bind it and then add my label.  It’s on my FAL list for this quarter and I’m going to try to get this done so I can say it’s, well, done! 🙂

This year I’m going to try my hand with the 2014 Finish Along with Katy at The Littlest Thistle.

I really want to get stuff finished this year and I’m hoping this will help me stay on track with that.  So for this quarter, on my list are:

WIP Wednesday at Freshly PiecedGetting it done – one piece at a time…

I’m working on Block #3 of A Rainbow Garden.  All the pieces are cut and ready to be sewn onto the backing.  That’s on tomorrow’s agenda.

Celtic Solstice – Just waiting to find time to work on the rest of those 4-patches for step 4.  I’ve ONLY got 144 left to do. but with 4-patches those should go by fast.  This is this weekend’s agenda with the hope that I’ll be able to start on Step 5 also.

And I finally spent a little time on Monday evening hand quilting My First Ever Hand Quilt – probably should be renamed The Quilt That Never Ends.  I’m on the final side of the 2nd row of the final border.  Then I’ll do a 3rd row and then the binding and the label!  After 8 years, it’s almost done. lol

WIP Wednesday – 12/18/2013

WIP Wednesday at Freshly PiecedGetting it done – one piece at a time…

The #1 item on my WIP list (our Family Holiday Newsletter) is officially done!  woohoo!  They are in the mailbox ready for pick up.  The first batch went out yesterday and the rest is going out today.  I’m so glad they are off my list. I haven’t done much quilty-wise since Manic Monday so nothing much to report.  But here goes –

Celtic Solstice – Step 3 is half done and I’m pretty sure I’m not going to get anymore done before the next clue.

Celtic Solstice - Step 3 35 Pinwheels 100 HSTs Orange and Yellow Strips ready to make more 12/15/13

Hand quilting – I’m halfway through the second side.  Really not much progress here but I’m okay with that right now.  I just do not want it to fall by the way side.  It is really almost done – just the final border and then binding and a label!

My hand projects – Raining Cats and Dogs – I was able to get a few pieces down over the weekend while waiting for the girl at her knitting class.  But that’s it.  I’ve been trying to touch this project every Monday and that was doable for a few weeks.  This week though has  work taking over every aspect of my life.  That will change shortly though.

A Rainbow Garden.  So I’m still working on the October block.  I just received the December block so now I’m 2 months behind.  I’ll be working on this tomorrow when I take the girl to cheer practice so hopefully I get a lot done.

Next week I’m on a little vacation.  Most of my clients will be on vacation so all my regular conference calls have been cancelled for the next two weeks.  The goal is to only work 2-3 hours a day and then the following week the family and I are going on a little end of the year retreat.  I convinced everyone that instead of gifts this year, we should spend a week in Reno, NV.  Surprisingly, the kids didn’t give me any issues with this idea.  It helps that living where we live, we do not see snow and my son has been wanting to see snow for the last year.  So, the plan is to hang out there for a week.  I’m bringing my sewing machine and a couple of board games.  We’ll spend a day or two at the slopes.  The hubby will hang out at the casinos.  🙂  And hopefully have great memories.
