December Recap 2022

Even with all my travels and all the things I had a great month in terms of my quilting goals. This pretty much is the same as my mid month recap.

First, my disappearing 9 patch – I wasn’t able to finish quilting this project but Im halfway through. With all the traveling I ran out of time.

Second, Wendy Mathson’s Storm at Sea/Snails Trail – My goal was to finish the top. And it’s done.

Third, Plum Fusion – My goal was to finish page 19 and here it is! 4 of these blocks.

And Fourth, Linda Ballard’s Dresden from the guild’s February 2022 – my goal was to pull this out, take a more current picture, and see what needs to happen to finish this project up. And I did it!

Dec. ’22

December 2022 – mid month update

First, my disappearing 9 patch. Here’s how much I was able to quilt before I headed off to Paris.

Second, Wendy Mathson’s Storm at Sea/Snails Trail – My goal was to finish this top and I finished it!

Third, Plum Fusion – one of our local shops’ Saturday Sampler. – I wanted to finish Page 19 and I did!

And Fourth, Linda Ballard’s Dresden from the guild’s February 2022 workshop. – My goal was to pull this out, take a more current picture, and see what needs to happen to finish this project up. – done!

I didn’t think I’d get everything done this month but my finishing urge has been going strong lately. The rest of the month will be a little slow on the crafty end as I take a few weeks off traveling.

Finished Flimsy: Storm at Sea/Snail’s Trail

Storm at Sea / Snail’s Trail – Finished Flimsy – December 2022

I started this at my guild’s October workshop with Wendy Mathson.

This was how far her instructions and her workshop took us and I got to this point pretty quickly after the workshop. I had posted about it being finished here. But almost immediately, I decided it wasn’t exactly finished and I started working on the border which finished the stars. This was something I learned in a Linda Ballard class a long time ago when I started the Dancing with the Stars quilt. That was to finish the stars in the border. So I took that and finished the stars here.

I started working on it in earnest during my mini retreat in October and discovered I didn’t have enough of the purple grunge. And I spent November at one quilt shop or another looking for that purple grunge. There are so many. I finally found it at Candy’s in Reseda, CA. Thankfully not too far from my house!

And just like my recently finished Arlene Arnold flimsy, Lucretia’s Journey, I absolutely love how this turned out and would like to make it again but bigger. Wendy emailed us blank templates to color on so we can play with color and design for this project. I’ve put this on my one day some day list. There are so many quilts I want to make but I do want to explore the different options I can do with this.

Quilt in Progress: Storm at Sea

SFVQA October Workshop

This was my expected third start for the last couple of months. This was where the flimsy was when I thought this was finished the first time. This is how far the class took us. But after sitting with it for a few days it didn’t feel finished and I needed to do more.

Here is where I’m at now. I decided I wanted those stars at the end to be finished so I first put together those star points and then I debated about the parts between each half diamond. I decided to stay with the purple grunge and I’m loving the effect. I ran out of that fabric so I need to go to my LQS to get some more. (oh, poor me!)

I have an idea on how I want to bind it too and finish it off. I am having a kick with this project right now.

There is too little time my crafty friends.

Oct. ’22

and a finish, almost

This was my expected third start for the last couple of months. I started Arabesque (September workshop), disappearing 9 patch (guild QAL), and now this project with this month’s speaker, Wendy Mathson. I really enjoyed her as a teacher. She is one of the best quilty teachers we’ve had in a long time.

And I finished it the same day! Granted it’s small but the top is complete. After some further reflection I think it needs borders. At her lecture the other night Wendy showed some interesting borders and I want to let it percolate before I tackle this.

When this is ready I plan to use it to practice hand quilting on it. I watched Quilt Folk’s Adventure in Wales and now I have the urge to hand quilt. I have a bunch of smalls that I started earlier this year due to my guilds workshops and I hope to work on my hand quilting on them as well.

There is too little time my crafty friends.
