Stash Report – Week 41, 2014

Moon Glow Block 11 - Sea of Knowledge October 12, 2014

Moon Glow
Block 11 – Sea of Knowledge
October 12, 2014

Here’s where I’m at with Moon Glow for the moment.  I was able to get all the foundation piecing done yesterday and now all I’ve got to do is piece all of these together along with the corners to make it a square.  Then applique on the center.  I’m not sure I’ll have the wherewithal to do hand applique after everything else so my goal today is to get every done up until that point. I’ll leave the hand applique for next weekend.

For my stash report: Nothing Used, Nothing Added….

It seems like its the same mantra every weekend but my office is a few blocks away from my LQS and on the days I go in to the office, I have to talk myself out of going to the LQS.  EVERY TIME!  This is the time of year when I’m really busy with work or family or life and I do not get the quilt as much as I’d like so at times like these, I generally turn to buying fabric.  As one of my old guildmates up north would say, “It’s okay! It’s my retirement savings plan!”  lol.  It’s the space really.  I’ve used up all my storage space.  ;0

Grand Illusion

And if you haven’t heard already, I jumped on Bonnie Hunter’s page yesterday and saw that she gave the fabric instructions for this year’s mystery quilt!  Woohoo!  Time to go to Lowes for those painting cards and then I can go through my scraps and my fabric bins.  This year the colors are yellow, pink, turquoise, and green along with Black and White.  I can probably find pink and turquoise in my stash but I’ll probably need to purchase more yellow, green, black and white.  I’m so excited!  I love this time of year.  I’m no where close to finishing up Celtic Solstice.  I left it at step 5.  As my BOMs taper off my monthly goal list, that will find itself back onto the priority list at some point.

This weekend’s lineup

I can’t believe how time flies.  It’s just amazing!

I was able to get a little hand applique in on Raining Cats and Dogs… not enough to take a picture but I’m happy that I got a few inches on there.  It’s way better than not touching it all and I’m okay with that.  I started my yoga practice again at Core Power Yoga.  The unlimited monthly classes is way more ($155 vs $65/month) than what I was paying in Northern California so I took advantage of a Groupon that I found.  I don’t know what I’ll do when the Groupon expires in a few weeks but I have a hunch I’ll be looking for a new Groupon. 🙂  I feel so much better than last weekend.  Work is still work and it’s kicking my butt.  I really have to start hiring again but I finally found a team I like to work with and the dynamics always change when we bring a new person in the mix.  I’m not sure I want to mess with it at the moment.  I’m also not sure if the increased workload is temporary or if it will last past the holidays.  I may hire temporary part time support and if the work continues as it is make a more permanent decision in the new year.  Well, until that happens I’m working every weekend until the end of November.

Despite all the work, I will be sure to put in some quality quilting time.  I need it to keep me balanced/sane.  Today’s quilt project is to start the foundation piecing part of Moon Glow.  I do not know if I’ll be able to finish it this weekend but I’ll get it started and we’ll go from there.

On my wish list… I want to get another 2 blocks quilted on Flowers and Baskets and I want to get more of the hand applique done on Raining Cats and Dogs.  I also want to finish Kayla’s cowl.

Only 2 more rows and I’m done so that may actually be at the top of the wish list.  🙂

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Stash Report – Week 40, 2014

Tell It To The Stars October 5, 2014

Tell It To The Stars
October 5, 2014

Nothing Used, Nothing Added….

But my BOMs are starting to look like finished tops.  I was able to finish the October clue for Tell It To The Stars and I believe next month’s clue has something to do with borders… For anyone who has done Judy’s mystery quilts in the past, is there a clue in December?

Quilting Flowers and Baskets October 4, 2014

Quilting Flowers and Baskets
October 5, 2014

I even had some time yesterday to do some quilting on Flowers and Baskets. I think I’ll finish quilting that basket today and then start working on Moon Glow.

And I received my October thread of the month from The Quilt Bear!

It’s not orange, even though it is October.  It is salmon and I am loving this color this year.  I’ve bought so much fabric in this color line so this thread is up my alley this month.

I only have 3 little spokes left which will leave me with an extra spool at the end of December if I continue with the Thread Club until the end of the year.  But I’m really close to finishing up one spool, which will get me just enough little spokes to finish up the year even.  There is a very slight chance I might finish up a second spool quilting Flowers and Baskets and if I do, I can continue in the club for January.  I’m curious to see what the club will do next year.  This is my second year in the club and the focus changed slightly this year from last.  After that, the likelihood of finishing up 2 spools or even 1 spool every month is very slim.  So I’ll probably discontinue my membership at that time.

The Weekend Line Up

I was able to get Moon Glow caught up last weekend so 2 of my 3 BOMs are caught up.  I’ve got 3 kits of Hampton Ridge in a pile for me to complete and that’s one of the top to do items for this weekend.  For some reason – I’m not feeling Hampton Ridge right now.  I have a feeling it’s because I’m so behind and unlike the other BOMs – 3 kits translates to 12 blocks.  Oh well, I’ve just got to put my big girl pants on and just start doing it.  Hopefully, I’ll start getting into it once I do.  That’s what happened with Moon Glow last week.  I didn’t have any intention to finish up Moon Glow so I hope that whatever bug got into me then will get me going on Hampton Ridge.

I have been keeping myself busy on other things.  I actually started quilting Flowers and Baskets.  I realized the other day that my finish quilt goal this year is 6.  I’ve already finished 4 so I only have 2 more to go.  While I’m doing well on my BOMs, none of them will be ready for quilting and finishing this year.  Which means, I have to take two of my finished tops and quilt them by the end of the year to meet my goal.  I have three quilts on my target list to finish for 2014.  Those are Raining Cats and Dogs, Missing Ivy, and Celtic Solstice.  All three of those are nowhere near ready to be quilted so I doubt that they will be done this year.  I originally wrote that list at the beginning of the year so I need 1 other quilt to finish.  I think that will be Month by Month.  That is my last quilt top waiting to be quilted.  So over the next couple of months I’ll be quilting Flowers and Baskets on my little Bernina.  Then once that is done, I’ll be quilting Month by Month.  And by the end of the year I will meet my 6 quilts for 2014 goal.  🙂

Quilting Flowers and Baskets

Quilting Flowers and Baskets

Right now I’m quilting the straight lines on Flowers and Baskets with a walking foot.  I’ll be done with that this weekend.  Then, I’ll be quilting inside the blocks of flowers and baskets.  That may take me a little while as it’s a mix of straight lines and FMQ.  But they’re going to be different on each block.  Then I’m going to work on FMQ on the empty blocks between the flowers and baskets.  I’m still not sure what to put there but they’ll be the same on each empty square.  And finally, I’ll quilt the borders.  Everything within the borders will be quilted with black Aurifil 50w.  The borders will be quilted with a purple Aurifil 50w.

Celtic Solstice - Step 4 4 Patches 100 assembled the rest waiting for me

Celtic Solstice – Step 4
4 Patches
300 assembled

I was also able to finish up Step 4 of Celtic Solstice.  I’ll check out what’s involved with Step 5 and put that on next week’s to do list. 🙂

So this weekend’s lineup is:

  1. finish straight line quilting Flowers and Baskets
  2. Practice FMQ
  3. Hampton Ridge
  4. get the next part of Block 7 for Raining Cats and Dogs set up for applique-ing.

Happy Quilting!
