Cross Stitch, an update

Gamer – 12/2/22
Gamer – 12/28/2022

My goal for Gamer is to do 100 stitches per day until I finish a diagonal. Then switch to MFE SAL 2022. For that I increased my goal to 200 stitches per day so I can finish a month’s clue each month.

Gamer – 1/10/23

And here’s my update on my MFE SAL.

MFE SAL – 11/27/22
MFE SAL – 1/4/2023

I’m so thrilled that I was able to get the page done this month. This is the page/clue released in May 2022 so I’m way behind. I will be attempting to get one page done each month so I can be finished with this project this year. It’s about 2500 stitches per page. If I do 200 stitches per day I should be done in about 13 days. Because it’s pretty much the same floss, 200 stitches per day is doable.

Happy Stitching!

Cross Stitch, an update

Gamer – 10/22/2022

I finished the second page of the third row and I’m about 34% complete. I do not remember if I ever mentioned this before but I use Pattern Keeper for all my full coverage projects. I love it. Unfortunately it isn’t an app that is compatible with Apple’s system so you can’t get it on an iPad. I am an iPhone user since the first iPhone and I had an iPad before it went kaput. I never replaced it as they cost a lot of money and I rarely used it. I had a kindle fire (I still have it going on 10 years) to read and listen to books. When I first got it I tried to use it for other stuff but never did and it’s hanging on allowing me to do the two things I need it to do. But I couldn’t get Pattern Keeper on it because it was so old. So several years ago I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tablet to use Pattern Keeper on. I know that sounds excessive but I use it every day and it’s been worth whatever it was I paid for it. All that to say, this is how I know I’m at 34%. I could give you the exact number to the second decimal out but I’d have to get up and look and I don’t want to do that. lol

Now that this page is done, I’ve set her aside while I work a bit on my MFE Sal.

This was where I was the last time I worked on this piece. I am starting to work on the May clue.

Cross Stitch: Gamer Nouveau

Gamer Nouveau 5/13/2021

Last week, Gamer came up on my Tiny Decisions App. And if you remember, my goal for 2021 was to finish row 3, which after some calculation, meant I would need to do ~700 stitches per week. I can tell you that that’s not going to happen. I struggled hard at the beginning of the year to do the 700 stitches per week and after a couple of months, put it away until now.

Here’s a close up of what I’ve worked on recently:

My goal for 2021 is through row 3 and I calculated the numbers, I have to do 100 stitches every day. Or, 700 stitches per week. I’m not sure if I can sustain those numbers working on one project every day but, so far, I’m on track. But I still need to finish row 2 which is where I’m at right now.

Happy Stitching!

Cross Stitch, progressing along

A Kiss for Snowman
A dimensions gold kit
9/17/2020

I finally finished the cross stitch on this Dimensions kit. It took a lot longer than I thought it would. I still have to do the back stitch so that will come around at it’s next rotation. This is not my favorite WIP to work on.  It’s a 6″ square but there are a lot of blending floss together and using 1, 2, or 4 strands at a time so it took a lot of paying attention.  I’m really happy to have gotten the cross stitch done and I hope to get the back stitch finished soon as well.

Titania
Mirabilia
9/17/2020

I worked on Titania this week and got a few stitches done before I got bored and moved on. Most of my cross stitch I stitch to finish a diagonal but this is one of those exceptions. So I don’t think I get as much done because after a couple of days I want to move on.  I may have to count stitches on this one and make it so that I get a certain amount of stitches done when it comes up on the schedule.

And then I worked on Gamer and got another diagonal complete. This is my favorite project to work on. The kit is offered by GeckoRouge and the designer is Medusa Dollmaker. My goal for this year was 6 pages and I will have to check out where I was in the beginning of the year to figure out how much I got done. I would be really happy if I could finish the row this year.

2020 Crafty Plans: Cross Stitch

Last year I didn’t finish any of my cross stitch goals but I made a lot of progress on everything. So I moved my projects over to this year and added new ones.  Because I’m crazy and I am loving my stitching right now.

Mama’s Bukid – Cross Stitch Priority Project #1

Mama’s Bukid
12/24/2019

My goal for December was to finish 2.5 columns and I only got halfway.  So I do not think I’ll be finishing this in February as I had intended.  I am struggling hard with finishing this project.  Part of it was that December had a lot of events and family and friend time.  All of it was wonderful and time well spent but my cross stitch time was hurt.  And I am totally unmotivated with this project.  I have had to force myself to work on this.  It is really hard but it’s so close to finishing that I can’t stop, it’s just taking me longer.

Gamer Nouveau – Cross Stitch Project priority #2

My goal for 2019 was to finish 6 pages but I only got 2.5 pages done.  I will work on this one week a month until Bukid is done and then I can work on this two weeks a month.  I hope that this year I will be able to get 6 pages done. There are a ton of pages and I do want to get this done sooner rather than later. I started using a new app called Pattern Keeper and it has changed my stitchy life.  It has taken a lot of the struggles I’ve had working on full coverage pieces. I’m currently at 20% completed on this project.

And because I like big projects (or BAPs – Big A$$ Projects), the new cross stitch project – priority #3 is a HAED (Heaven And Earth Design) which is a full coverage piece also.  Here’s my current spot:

And here’s what it will grow up to be:

Each of those gridlines marks a page and I’m still only on page 2. I do not have a goal for this year other than working on it each month.

I’m also working on a smaller project: A kiss for Snowman

This is only about 6″ square but I’m not enjoying this project at all. I only work on it when I’m travelling. On my personal retreats I may take this with me to do some stitching.  Hopefully, this will be done soon and I can start a new small project.  I am currently in love with full coverage projects and I’ve got another one started but I rarely work on it.  I do have a lot of projects kitted up and I plan to start another 2 or 3 over the course of this year.  But, the 4 projects shown above are my top priority projects for now.

Happy new year!

Melanie

Update on February Plans and this week’s POA, week 7, 2019

Good morning my friends,

It was a productive week.

For quilting:

Celtic Solstice – Goal for February is to have this bound and labeled.

Good Fortune – Goal is to finish Clue 2 and start on Clue 3. I normally work on this on Sunday’s with a friend and yesterday was our guild’s workshop so we didn’t get together. Next Sunday I will be out of town so the next time I will be getting together at Tova’s will be Sunday, 2/24.  You’ll be happy to know that I did finish Clue 2. and all I need to do is to start on Clue 3.  Which I’ll be able to do when we next get together.

Provence – Goal is to piece the border. – not yet done… And with the next 2 weekends filled with activities, not sure if I’ll be able to get this done.

For Knitting:

January Socks – Finished one sock!

February Sock – I’m working on Mercury socks by Kim McKenzie/Drotrar using Hypnotic Yarn’s Grinchmas.  I love the colorway but the yarn is too plum for socks for me.  I would probably love a hat or gloves with this yarn.  While it’s cold now, it doesn’t get cold often enough in Los Angeles to warrant making a lot of wool plump socks.  The yarn is 80% SW Merino, 20% Nylon and at first my knitting friend who is much more accomplished than I thought it might be the 80/20 blend that I don’t like.  But after a few days thought that that’s probably not it as I’ve been knitting with similar yarn compositions in the past.  So then we realized that there are only 400 yards in this 100 grams and I’ve been knitting with yardage around 430’s and up.  Which is why this particular yarn is plumper than the yarn I normally work with.  The yarn is lovely, don’t get me wrong, just not something I want to use in socks again. Anyway, I’m almost through the foot and will be working on the heel before the weeks ends.

Jacob’s Weasley Sweater – This sweater is in time out.  I can’t even talk about it at the moment.

Featherweight cardigan – I am finished blending out yarn 1 on one sleeve. I have to work on blending out yarn 1 on the second sleeve and finish blending it out of the body.  Then I’ll be working solely with yarn 2 for a little bit while I think about when to blend in yarn 3. I’ll get a picture once Yarn 1 is blended out completely. Right now there are so many yarn bits hanging out it’s difficult to try on let alone to take a pic with it.

For Cross Stitching:

  • Mama’s Bukid- Goal is to finish column 1 and 2 on page 3 and 6.

Mama’s Bukid
2/10/19
almost done with columns 1 and 2 on pages 3 and 6

  • Gamer – Goal is to finish page 6. I have about 2 more columns to do so I’m pretty close to this goal.  I just need to finish my goal for Mama’s Bukid, then I can work on this project. The only thing is that I am out of town this coming weekend so I will not be able to stitch a lot. I think that that is okay but it does mean I have to rush, which I hate doing. 🙂
  • Snowman – Goal is to finish stitching the perimeter of this WIP. I have worked on this a bit and I have about 1 side left to finish in order to have the perimeter completely stitched on this project. This is my traveling piece so I’ll be working on this a lot this weekend.

This coming weekend I’ll be out of town so I may not be able to get a post out. I plan to not visit any shops (quilt shops, yarn shops, needlepoint shops) as I need to not spend money on anything other than food and gas and possibly parking, if necessary.  My daughter was just accepted to Boston University and I need to watch my pennies.  Of course, we’re still waiting to hear back in regards to her financial aid package and depending on what they give her will determine whether she will go there or not.  Instead, the daughter and I will be visiting San Francisco State just in case the financial aid package at BU is unacceptable.

Keep crafting and love on!

xoxo,

Melanie

January’s Update and February’s Plans

For quilting:

Celtic Solstice – I have all the quilting done!  To be fair, I had 2 of the sides left to quilt at the end of January and just finished quilting the other two sides today. And, I have it all trimmed and ready for binding.  So my goal for February is to get it bound and labeled.

Good Fortune – In January I finished Clue 1 and got through most of Clue 2.  I just need to finish trimming my HSTs for Clue 2, which I plan to do in February and work on Clue 3.

Provence – My goal for February is to piece the border. I’m still deciding if I should go with just 1 border or find a second border to add to it.

For Knitting:

I generally work on my knitting during the week and when I’m out and about.  So my focus knitting is on my monthly socks. Right now they are my February socks. Because it’s February. 🙂 In January, I was working on Helen Stewart’s Honey Bees Dance Socks and they are not done. I’m using a sock blank so I can only do 1 sock at a time (I dislike doing 1 sock at a time!).  And I’m still on my first sock. I have one last pattern repeat and then I can do the toes.  This is almost done. But it’s February now so these socks are not the socks I’m focusing on. I will try to finish these as I’m almost done… My February socks are Kim Drotar’s Mercury Socks using Hypnotic Yarns “Grinchmas” colorway.  I’m doing these toe up and I finished the first pattern repeat. I plan to do a pattern repeat a day so I should be at the heel in about 2 weeks. I work on these daily. On most Tuesdays and Thursday evenings I meet with some knitting friends at our LYS – A Major Knitwork in Van Nuys, CA.  There I work first on Jacob’s Weasley Sweater.  I finished the front and I’m currently working on the neck shaping. My goal for February is to be working on the sleeves.  And when I get to a good stopping point, my favorite piece to work on is my Featherweight Cardigan.  I love working on this and right now I’m finishing Yarn 1 and moving in Yarn 2. In February I want to be working in Yarn 3.

For Cross Stitching:

  • Mama’s Bukid- I was able to finish the pages in January and every month from now until it’s finished my plan is to finish 2 columns per month.

  • Gamer – I was able to get halfway through page 6 so in February my goal is to finish page 6.

  • Snowman – My February goal is to finish stitching the perimeter of this WIP.

Have a Happy Saturday Night!
