Saturday Musings

It was a tough week.  It generally is the first week of the quarter. I’m pretty swamped with quarterly tasks and I’m generally waking up too early, working too late and dealing with everyone who wanted their tasks finished two days ago.  It’s not fun and this week was made worse because I didn’t stick with my morning ritual each morning and by Thursday I was totally out of sorts.  I have a morning routine that is designed to make sure I do the most important things first thing.  I work from home so it is very easy for me to roll out of bed and start working without doing the most important things.  An example of some of those important things are: drink a glass of water, take my meds, take my blood pressure, write 3 things I’m grateful for in my journal, read for 15 minutes, and knit 5 rounds on my socks.  So I generally spend an hour and a half on my morning ritual and then I can start my work day.  One day of doing this doesn’t really change anything that I notice but one day of NOT doing it really puts me out of sorts.  Especially after I’ve been doing this for a few months.  After many days of doing this, I’ve noticed that I’m much more relaxed, patient, calm, etc.  Well this week I had 2 -3 days of not doing my routine and by Wednesday evening my neck was killing me and by Thursday, I had a migraine, and Friday I had to stop work at noon to take a walk with the hubby for some exercise and to say hello to the sun. Really I spent a lot of time recuperating because I didn’t want to take the time on my morning ritual.  I know this but sometimes I just make bad decisions.

Other than that, I took the girl to Riverside to take a tour of UCR. We both enjoyed the campus. I’d never been to UCR so I was pleasantly surprised at how much we both liked it.

And I was scheduled to take this month’s quilty workshop with my guild.  Luckily the workshop was cancelled.  I can’t remember exactly what happened and I really wanted to attend as it was on machine applique.  But, I’m tired and I’ve got a lot of UFOs and WIPs that I need to take care of.  So I’m going to spend this weekend trying to finish the Rippidy Doo Dah project I showed last week.

Saturday Musings

This week, I was able to focus and follow my current project rotation. The plan is laid out in this post if you have no idea what I’m referring to and are curious. But I haven’t been doing so well on the work front. I’ve only wanted to craft and my craft room and work office is the same room.  So I only have to look over and see crafty projects calling my name.  It’s been difficult and there have been times where the longing to do just a bit more on a craft project won the battle.  I blame it on being sick for the latter part of my vacation and not being able to craft my heart out during that time.

Today is Saturday and here is the plan for today:

Weave in ends, Quilting, bag making, sewing, cross stitch on Mama’s Bukid and Gamer

But first, here’s a picture of my craft table. It’s kind of a mess.  My floor needs a bit of attention too.  So, before I can focus on the things I want to do, I’ve got to clear this table off (I will need to cut fabric and I need that table to do so).

And I will need to clear off the floor.  Then I can have fun today.

Gamer has not yet arrived so that is not on the docket today.

Being thankful on a rainy Saturday morning

I live in Southern California and we’ve been in a drought for so long.  This year is the most rain I’ve seen in a long time.  I forgot how to live in rain.  It’s not fun.  I know for those of you in more wintery weather laugh at us SoCal people but we’re just not used to it.  When we got the first rain, I was thankful, grateful for it.  Now I can’t wait to see the end of it.  We’ve got flooding.  I had to buy my boy pants to wear to school!  He lives in his basketball shorts and he absolutely hates to wear pants.  But with the weather being what it has been, he’s grateful for them.  Yesterday, it was storming so bad and I had to drive in it!  lol.  Okay, there’s enough complaining.  Now that I’m snug in my home with my coffee and my computer I am okay with the rain.  I am grateful that it’s here and hopefully it’s one step closer to being out of this drought.  I’m not sure what the status is on that and I don’t care.  I will continue to conserve water as I do and not be wasteful with it.

I’m getting into a groove again.  I think I said this last week.  But it’s still true.  I’m starting to recognize my routines.  The best thing is jotting them down and finagling them to find the best routine and habits.  It’s working and helping me get myself organized again.  One of my team members submitted her resignation yesterday.  There’s another change but it is what it is.  I wish her the best and hope it doesn’t cause too much disruption in the overall scheme of things.  Thankfully we have two weeks to plan and adjust.  Other than that, I didn’t get to yoga all week and I’m really sad about that.  I enjoy going to yoga.  I’m hoping I’m able to go this coming week.

Today, I’m helping a friend move and then this evening a group of us are gathering at a friend’s house to get together post-Valentines.  I can count on good food, good conversation, and one of our friends will be continuing her lessons on crocheting a slipper.  I got one slipper done during the SuperBowl.  I tried to do the second slipper since then on my own but could not figure out how to do a Half Doube Chain?  I know I could have googled it but it’s not high on my crafty to do list so I chose to wait until we see each other again tonight.  Thank goodness it’s a 3 day weekend.  I can be social tonight and spend the following two days secluded in my craft room (office).  🙂

On the crafty side of things, I got a lot of knitting done this week.  I’m well on my way to finishing the magenta socks and if all goes as planned I should be finished by next weekend.  I haven’t done any quilting related stuff and very little cross stitching.  I did get my drawstring bags prepped and partially put together.  I need to figure out what the next step is and do it.  I hope to have time this weekend to go through my closet.  I am a bit disorganized with my quilty stuff which is why I’m not able to do much on that end of things.  To be fair, I’m finishing the top for Have yourself a quilty little Christmas and I’m not mentally ready to do my next project.

Happy love month!

As always life has been busy.  Thankfully it’s the good kind of busy.  A bit of quilting, a bit of knitting, a bit of driving the kiddos around, and a bit of working.  Okay a lot of working but that’s normal.  I am enjoying my crafting at the moment.  I hit a point in my sock knitting this morning where I just sat and knit with my coffee.  A podcast playing in the background and I can truly say, these are happy times.  Even with the world going crazy around me, my own little space is calm, quiet, and filled with joy.  I love these moments. I relish these moments.  And I wish you all these quiet happy moments.

Today’s agenda involves helping out a friend and some crochet.  I’m not sure I’ll have more time for other things.  I spent all morning on my knitting so I’m all knitted out now.  I picked some fabric for some bags I want to put together.  I want to continue perfecting the drawstring bags I started working on a few weeks ago and start working on zipper pouches.  I am working on the border of Have Yourself a Quilty Little Christmas but I’m not sure I’m in the mood for that.  I’ve got all the pieces ready and pressed.  All I have to do is lay it out and figure out how I want all the border pieces to go together.  Sometimes I just need to kick myself in the butt to get me going. ;0

I hope you all have a wonderful crafty day!

Super Bowl Weekend!

Not much crafty stuff going on this weekend.  We’re hosting Super Bowl Sunday with our friends so today I’ll be spending the day cleaning and organizing.  The cleaning isn’t too bad.  The hard part is organizing all the stuff I’ve got laying around.  I’ve got a ton of office stuff all over everywhere and I’m at a loss as to what to do with all the paper, staplers, tape dispensers, scissors, pens, highlighters, etc.  I hate to throw them away as they are all working and in good order.  And I know as soon as I throw them away, I’ll end up needing them.

I am doing the minimalist thing and getting rid of stuff every day.  So at some point, I’ll have to deal with the office supply problem.  I’ve gotten rid of 14 items so far this month.  It’s a bit slow for me but I do not have the time to do more than the little bit I am able to do each day.  I do have a friend coming over next week to help me figure out what I can sell and post them on the various apps to sell.  That will help me a lot.  But we’re having people over tomorrow so I have thrown everything into my office/sewing room.  It’s a mess.  In addition, I’m going through years of file boxes and I’m slowly shredding the docs.  I’ve got a ton of shredded paper all over the floors.  But as long as I could close the door then I’m okay.

To be honest, I do not even know who’s playing this weekend.  Can you believe that?  I don’t watch much TV and I watch more basketball than anything.  The funny thing is that I’ll go to my girl’s high school football games but have yet to go to a basketball game.  ;0  On to cleaning…

I hope you have more of a crafty Saturday than me.
