December 2019 Plans

Happy December!

This year, I want to spend time with the people that are important to me and to enjoy the holidays. I started by texting the people I rarely see to schedule time. Those are the most important because if we don’t put it on the calendar, it will not happen.

In terms of my crafty life, I do not have a lot of goals.

Goal #1 – finish Jacob’s Weasley Sweater.  I have to finish the sleeves, mattress stitch the open sides, knit the collar and weave in the ends.  My goal is to have these done by Christmas so we can get our annual Christmas picture done with him in the sweater.

Goal #2 – 2 columns on Mama’s Bukid.  I’m on track to get this finished in February as my goal is to get 2 columns done each month.  (Yes, I only have 6 columns left to do!)

That’s all my must do goals for this month. Everything else is pure enjoyment.  And over the last couple of years, the way I do goals have changed.  Before I used to have annual goals, that I would then break down to monthly goals and then weekly goals.  And every week and month I would document what my goals were, where I was with each thing and what I planned to do the following week or month. It was helpful until I started spending more time stitching and then knitting.  As I did more and more crafts I didn’t see the same kind of progress that I used to have.  Now I devote time to each craft and however much I do is how much I get done.  Unless I have a deadline for something, I do not set goals to getting things done.  I set a queue of things and I have priority projects in each craft and I work on things as I need to.

So for December, here is what I plan to work on:

Quilting – Good Fortune.  I have the inner top put together. I just need to put the borders together and then this top is done!  I am not playing with Bonnie’s Mystery Quilt this year.  I realize this past year I have a ton of mystery quilts that I have on the go and I’m a bit tired of them.  So I’m pulling her instructions each week to do at some point later on.

Sewing – I’m taking a sewing class right now and I’m working on garment sewing. I just started and will update you as I go along.

That’s it.  I’ll post more about what my thoughts on my upcoming goal and plans for 2020 later this month.

Monday’s POA – week 15, 2018

Here were my goals from the week before:

  • Mama’s Bukid – Page, 5, finish row 13 and get halfway through row 14. It would be great to have this page finished but I think that would be too much in one week. – I didn’t get halfway through row 14 but I came really close.  My goal for the month is to finish row 14 and get started on the next page. I’m pretty confident that I can get that done.  It would be great if I could get row 1 and row 2 done on Page 2 and page 6 which are the top and bottom pages that come next.  That’s kind of crazy and I’m not sure it’s doable. But it’s kind of fun to try.
  • Celtic Solstice – I would like to get the batting done this week and rent the long arm sometime in the next few weeks. If I can rent it on a Sunday that would work really well for me.  I’m just not sure they are open on Sundays for me to do that. – I haven’t done this yet. 🙁
  • Rainbow Garden – prep block 9 – you know the prep, trace all the pieces on freezer paper, cut, put it on the wool, cut again, etc. that will take some time but needs to happen so I can have something to work on.
  •  – I haven’t done this yet. 🙁
  • Knitting projects:
    • Nestled socks – April pattern for the Cosy Sock Club
      • Print the pattern, pick the yarn, and cast on! … my favorite part.  – DONE!
    • Weasley Sweater for Kayla – Mattress stitch the pieces and then work on the neck.  I’m almost done with the mattress stitch. I think I’ve only got one sleeve left which may take me 3 days.  Then I can start working on the neck. I’m not sure what that will entail but I will figure it out when I get there.  I do not think I will be finished with it this week but I want to get the mattress stitch done and get started on the neck.  🙂 – DONE!
    • Cowl – continue to do a round a day on this project. (dori’s voice) Just keep stitching.. just keep stitching… – DONE! There was actually one day that I did not stitch a round and that’s okay. 6/7 days is 6 rounds closer than I was last week.

And for this week’s goals, here’s what I want to get done.

  • Mama’s Bukid – Page, 5, finish row 14
  • Celtic Solstice – prep the batting
  • Rainbow Garden – prep block 9
  • Knitting projects:
    • Nestled socks – April pattern for the Cosy Sock Club
      • Finish the foot
    • Weasley Sweater for Kayla – Finish the neck and weave in some ends.
    • Cowl – continue to do a round a day on this project.

2018 Crafty Plan – April

Celtic Solstice – So my plan was to prep the batting on 4/1 and then schedule time at Baron’s.  As far as I know they still have the Bernina long arm I can rent time on.  I’m not sure when that will happen since the next two weeks I’m busy on Friday and Saturday.  I do not know if I can go in on a Sunday. I know they have classes on Sundays but I’m not sure if that means I can use the long arm on Sundays.  We’ll see.  But, I didn’t get to prep the batting on 4/1 because we went to a friends house Saturday night to help him celebrate his birthday.  Needless to say we got home late and I had to have an easy Sunday.  So at some point this month, I really need to get the batting on this.

Also, it feels like I’m not doing much quilting.  But I do spend a bit of time each week working on something and right now I’m working on this…

Rippidity Doo Dah
Amy Bradley Designs
4/1/2018

Everything is fused down and I’m working on blanket stitching everything. It takes a lot of concentration and I do not have a lot of it at one time. I generally can spend about 30 minutes on it and then I have to stop.  The problem is, if I switch my machine to do something else, I will not put it back to finish this project. So I’m leaving it set up with 40w black Aurifil thread.  I’m hoping this will be done soon so I can move on to the next step.  There is lettering that goes on the top that says Rippidity Doo Dah and I’ll have to blanket stitch that as well.  Then I’m done with the blanket stitch and I plan to make this into a tote.

For my mini-group, we’re planning on making a baby quilt.  We’ve taken one of the Amy Bradley Designs and I’m responsible for a pig.  So I need to rummage through my stash and pull fabric together so I can take it to my mini-group meeting.  We’ll be putting all the fabric side by side to make sure they go well together. I’m pretty sure once I’m done blanket stitching Rippidity Doo Dah, I will be ready to start blanket stitching this pig.

For knitting:

  • Kayla’s Weasley Sweater – Finish the mattress stitching and the neck.
  • Jacob’s Weasley Sweater – I’m working on the back and I plan to do 20 rows each week. Kayla’s needed about 160 rows but Jacob’s will be bigger so I’ll need to measure it and him when I’m at that point.  With those numbers, it will take about 2-3 months to finish the back.  I’m in no rush. I do want the sweater to be finished by Christmas and I hope it will be.  But if it isn’t it’s not a big deal. I’d rather not stress about these things.
  • The April socks in Knitting Expat’s Sock Club.
  • Land of Sweets Cowl – continue working on this project.

For cross stitching:

  • Mama’s Bukid – Finish row 13 (which I’m very close to finishing) and row 14. Get started on the next page.
  • Gamer Nouveau – Just keep stitching! and enjoy it.
  • I keep watching flosstube and I may add a project here. I’m being called and as soon as I get a scroll frame to put Gamer on, I may just start something new.

Monday’s POA – week 14, 2018

Here were my goals from the week before:

  • Mama’s Bukid – Page, 5, row 12 – finish the row – DONE
  • Celtic Solstice – This upcoming weekend we are having a small get together for the boy’s birthday so I will not be able to quilt this project.  I will see if I can schedule time to rent the long arm for the first weekend of April.  – NOT DONE
  • Rainbow Garden – do a little bit of work on this on Sunday. And wouldn’t it be great to get this finished and get block 9 started? – DONE
  • Knitting projects:
    • Derive socks – March pattern for the Wanderlust Sock Club
      • Finish the foot and toe and finish these socks! – DONE
    • Weasley Sweater for Kayla – Mattress stitch the pieces and then work on the neck.  Wouldn’t it be great to get all the ends woven in and have this as a finish this week? – NOT DONE
    • Cowl – continue to do a round a day on this project. – I work on this when I have time to get in a third primary project in so I do not always have time to do this every day. I’m happy to make a little progress each week and right now I’m about halfway done with it.

And for this week’s goals, here’s what I want to get done.

  • Mama’s Bukid – Page, 5, finish row 13 and get halfway through row 14. It would be great to have this page finished but I think that would be too much in one week.

2018 Crafty Plan – March Recap

Celtic Solstice – I would relaly like to get this done this month. I mean, finish the backing, prep the batting, and get this quilted.

==> I’m still not done with this project.  Because this is so big I can only work on it during the weekend when I have the time to spread it out.  I have the back done but I still need to prep the batting and quilt it.  There was just too many things going on this month and didn’t have enough free weekends to finish this.  I hope hope hope that I’m able to find a weekend in April.  It might have to be a Sunday in April as the kids and I went through and planned a bunch of activities over the next few Saturdays.

For knitting:

  • Kayla’s Weasley Sweater – Finish the sleeves. I’m not sure how much more I need to do but I can smell the finish. I need to have Kayla try this on and see how much longer I need to go on the sleeves.  I hope that I can get this finished this month. Since I’m a newer sweater knitter I can’t tell whether that is doable or not.
    • I did finish the sleeves and I’m almost done mattress stitching the sides.  One that is done, the next step is to pick up and knit up the neck.  I think this can be finished in April.  On Thursday, I got the yarn for Jacob’s Weasley Sweater and I casted on for that.

  • The March socks in Knitting Expat’s Sock Club.
    • DONE!!!!

  • Land of Sweets Cowl – I need to take a picture of this for my next knitting update.  Now that the Martine Hat is finished I moved this project up to the third primary position.  The plan is to work a round every day.
    • I’m a little more than halfway done. I do not always get a round done every day but I am making progress.

Land of Sweets Cowl

For cross stitching:

  • Mama’s Bukid – Finish row 10 (which I’m very close to finishing), row 11, and row 12.
    • DONE!  I’m actually working on row 13 so I’m progressing quickly on this project.

Mama’s Bukid
3/31/2018

  • Gamer Nouveau – Just keep doing what I’m doing. This is not a priority project so keep doing a bit every day as I feel like it and see where I am at the end of the month.  I do want to get a scroll frame for this project. I outgrew the small plastic hook I had and I’m currently using a small QSnap.   I have a larger QSnap that I will use but once this project outgrows the larger QSnap, I plan to get another scroll frame.  I do want to save some money for this though as I don’t need it right now.
    • At the beginning of March, I bought a scroll and table frame specifically for this project.  But it never came.  I bought it from ABCStitch.com and after 4 weeks of waiting to hear when it would be shipped (I communicated with them and they couldn’t tell me when they would get it and ship it out) I cancelled my order.  I do not have a local needle shop (LNS) but found one about 30 minutes away.  I guess to some that would be local but it’s pretty far from me distance wise and I would have to make sure I went when there was NO traffic because that 30 minutes in traffic would become an hour and a half.  Anyway, I called the shop and made my way there and they are ordering me one.  The ladies were really nice and they will call me next week to let me know the timeframe of when I can expect to have the items.  Because of the holiday (Passover/Easter), their normal distributors were closed.

Monday’s POA – week 12, 2018

Here were my goals from last week:

  • Mama’s Bukid – Page, 5, row 12 – get half way through row 12 – DONE! and I actually did a bit more than halfway!
  • Celtic Solstice – measure the backing and prep the batting. Find a place to quilt this sometime next week. … I really wanted to get this quilted this month but this weekend is the only weekend I can quilt it.  If I am able to measure the backing and prep the batting during the weekdays then I’ll be able to quilt it on Saturday.  The problem is I don’t know if I’ll have time to do it.  I have something going on every night except Friday.  I think the most important thing is to measure the backing and as long as that measures right I should be able to get the batting cut and prepped for Saturday.  So I will try to measure the backing Monday afternoon and if it is good to go I will schedule time on the Long Arm for Saturday.  😀 wish me luck…  – NOT DONE!  I was able to measure the back but I didn’t have a chance to do it during the week so I could then schedule time over the weekend.  So I measured the back this weekend.  It is barely 120×120 and I’m going to go with it.  I know that I’m pushing one side and if I load it a bit off then the quilt will slant and I will not have enough backing.  I hope I have enough.
  • UFO list – finalize this and bring it to my guild meeting to turn in. – NOT DONE!  I am having a hard time writing this list so I’m just going to not do this right now.
  • Rainbow Garden – do a little bit of work on this on Sunday. – DONE!  and I’m almost finished with block 8!
  • Knitting projects:
    • Derive socks – March pattern for the Wanderlust Sock Club
      • do the heels and start the foot – DONE!
    • Weasley Sweater for Kayla – the cuffs! – DONE!
    • Cowl – continue to do a round a day on this project. – NOT DONE!

And for this week’s goals, here’s what I want to get done.

  • Mama’s Bukid – Page, 5, row 12 – finish the row
  • Celtic Solstice – This upcoming weekend we are having a small get together for the boy’s birthday so I will not be able to quilt this project.  I will see if I can schedule time to rent the long arm for the first weekend of April.

  • Knitting projects:
    • Derive socks – March pattern for the Wanderlust Sock Club
      • Finish the foot and toe and finish these socks!
    • Weasley Sweater for Kayla – Mattress stitch the pieces and then work on the neck.  Wouldn’t it be great to get all the ends woven in and have this as a finish this week?
    • Cowl – continue to do a round a day on this project.

Monday’s POA – week 11, 2018

Here were my goals from last week:

  • Mama’s Bukid – Page, 5, row 11 – I’m halfway through row 11 so I want to finish it this week. – DONE!
  • Celtic Solstice – measure the backing and prep the batting. Find a place to quilt this sometime next week. – NOT DONE!
  • UFO list – finalize this and bring it to my guild meeting to turn in. – NOT DONE!
  • Rainbow Garden – do a little bit of work on this on Sunday. – DONE!
  • Knitting projects:
    • Derive socks – March pattern for the Wanderlust Sock Club
      • These came out on 3/1 and I started the cuff (I work my socks cuff down).  I’ve got all the ribbing done and I am starting the pattern of the leg.  Each pattern repeat is about 12 rounds.  I usually do not make my socks very long in the leg area but I would like to see how these feel longer than I normally make them.  I think if I made them the length I usually make them it will be about 2 pattern repeats (about 24 rounds) so I’ll try to get in 3 pattern repeats this week.  If I like how the pattern is knitting up, and I have the time, I may even do a 4th pattern repeat before I start the heel. – DONE! I actually did 4 repeats and I’m ready to start the heel.
    • Weasley Sweater for Kayla – I need Kayla to try this on again and determine if I should do the ribbing of the cuff now on the sleeves or continue in stockinette a bit longer. – DONE! I am actually on the cuff now and I am planning on doing about 3-4 inches of cuff.  I hope to get the cuffs done this week.
    • Cowl – continue to do a round a day on this project. – ummm… Okay so that short answer is NOT DONE! but I did it for most days.  I think there was only one or two days that I didn’t work on this project and that’s really okay.  Even though this is one of my priority projects its Priority #3 and I don’t have to really touch it every day.  I just need to touch it most days and it will get done eventually.  I’m about halfway through right now.

And for this week’s goals, here’s what I want to get done.

  • Mama’s Bukid – Page, 5, row 12 – get half way through row 12
😀 wish me luck…

    • Weasley Sweater for Kayla – the cuffs!
    • Cowl – continue to do a round a day on this project.

Monday’s POA – week 10, 2018

Here were my goals from last week:

  • Mama’s Bukid – Page, 5, row 10 – FINISH ROW 10 – DONE
  • Celtic Solstice – finish piecing the backing! – DONE. Well, I think I’m done. I got it all pieced together and then I trimmed it up to square it up.  I was so tired being on my knees on the floor that I didn’t have the energy to measure and see if it finished at 120×120. I hope it did.  I’ll have to measure it next week.
  • I also need to get a list of my UFOs jotted down for my guild meeting in a couple of weeks.  We are doing a UFO challenge and I’m not sure what UFOs I have. I know I have a bunch but it’s always helpful to have a list so I can be mindful of what I’m working on. – DONE BUT NOT DONE. I wrote down a list so technically it’s done.  But it’s not a great list and I’m not sure I’ll submit it.  I really should because what makes it a great list?  I don’t know. But it wasn’t inspiring.  What would make a UFO list inspiring?  I don’t know but these are the thoughts going on in my head.
  • Rainbow Garden – do a little bit of work on this on Sunday. – DONE.
  • Knitting projects:
    • Warm and Snug socks – February pattern for the Cosy Sock Club
      • I have one more stripe for the foot and then I plan to finish the toes and this project will be a done. And since I used 2 balls of knit picks felici, that’s 2 balls I can mark on my “used” yarn for this week. – DONE.
    • Weasley Sweater for Kayla – continue to work on the sleeves.  I am at the point where I need to have Kayla try this on.  That will tell me how much longer I need to go. – DONE. I got the sleeves to the point in the pattern where it says I’m done and I need to start the cuffs.  I had Kayla try it on a few rows ago and it was fitting well.  At the time she asked me to make the sleeves so that it came a few inches (about 3) past her wrists so I’m not sure if I’ll put a few more rows in stockinette and then start the cuff or start the cuff now and have a few extra inches of cuff.  We’ll see.
    • Cowl – continue to do a round a day on this project. – DONE. I didn’t do every day but I did most days and that’s good!

And for this week’s goals, here’s what I want to get done.

  • Mama’s Bukid – Page, 5, row 11 – I’m halfway through row 11 so I want to finish it this week.
  • Celtic Solstice – measure the backing and prep the batting. Find a place to quilt this sometime next week.
  • UFO list – finalize this and bring it to my guild meeting to turn in.
  • Rainbow Garden – do a little bit of work on this on Sunday.
  • Knitting projects:

    • Weasley Sweater for Kayla – I need Kayla to try this on again and determine if I should do the ribbing of the cuff now on the sleeves or continue in stockinette a bit longer.
    • Cowl – continue to do a round a day on this project.

2018 Crafty Plan – March plans

I wanted to touch base a bit on my 2018 annual plans. You can find the original post here and if you recall, it was a series of 3-4 posts.  The overarching theme is

  1. Use what I have
  2. Get rid of the things that I don’t love anymore
  3. Only buy things I will use now

I have to remind myself of this because it is often easier to go to my LQS and buy 2 yards that I “need” rather than go to the bottom of my fabric bins.  In fact, I really need to go through my stash for the last 2 yards for the back of Celtic Solstice.  Which leads me to my first quilty project: Celtic Solstice

  • Celtic Solstice – I would relaly like to get this done this month. I mean, finish the backing, prep the batting, and get this quilted.

  • The March socks in Knitting Expat’s Sock Club.
  • Land of Sweets Cowl – I need to take a picture of this for my next knitting update.  Now that the Martine Hat is finished I moved one of my projects up to the third primary position.  The plan is to work a round every day.

For cross stitching:

  • Mama’s Bukid – Finish row 10 (which I’m very close to finishing), row 11, and row 12.

2018 Crafty Plan – February Recap

  • Mama’s Bukid – Finish Row 8 and 9 of Page 5
    • UPDATE – I finished row 8, row 9 and I’m pretty darn close to row 10. I haven’t taken an updated picture since yesterday so we’ll have to make due with the most recent one I’ve got.

Mama’s Bukid
02/27/2018

and so you can see my progress from the beginning of the month, here’ s a pic of what it looked like then.

Mama’s Bukid
01/31/2018

It’s fun to see the progress on these long term projects.

  • Gamer Nouveau – Finish prepping the fabric and start Page 1
    • UPDATE – I’m about halfway through Page 1.  As I’ve said, this is not my primary project. Mama’s Bukid is my primary project but I do try to get one thread stitched on each night. And while I’m not able to do it every night, I’m able to do it most nights.

  • Kayla’s Weasley Sweater – Finish the sleeves. I am planning on doing a RS (right side) and WS (wrong side) on each sleeve a day and spend Thursday night Knit Nights working on it.  I hope that’s enough time to finish up the sleeves in February.
    • UPDATE – I’ve been working on this project but I’m not sure how much longer I need to knit the sleeves. I’m pretty sure I’m not finished yet but I need to have Kayla try it on to see how we are.
  • The February socks in Knitting Expat’s Sock Club.
    • UPDATE – I am working on the leg.  My plan is to have the heels done this weekend and that should put me in line with getting these done this month.
    • Update – These were finished in the nick of time on 2/28/18!
  • Martine Hat – Finish the hat. I’m currently working on the hat part but I’m almost to the point where I can start the decrease.
    • UPDATE – This is finished!

Martine Hat
2/14/2018

  • Celtic Solstice – Finish the back together and quilt this
    • UPDATE – I maybe wanted to do too much for this task.  I was able to get the back almost done at 100″x120″.  I need it to be 120″x120″ so I’m a little short.  But since we’re out of town this weekend and next weekend is QuiltCon I will not be able to work on this again until March 3rd!  So, this is on hold until then.

The back, not yet finished
Daaaang, that’s big!
2/15/2018

  • So I pulled out fabric and tried to get the last 20″ done and I just couldn’t do it.  I didn’t have enough scraps left over and the easiest way to do it would be to get 2 yards, cut it and piece it together.  The problem is that my 1-2 yard stash is at the bottom of my bins and I am in no mood to pull them out and go through them.

  • Enjoy QuiltCon!
    • UPDATE! I didn’t buy anything except the QuiltCon bag and a MQG project bag.  I thought I would get some of the accuquilt square dies but they do not have much in terms of specials so I can always get those another time.  I haven’t used the dies I currently have enough to warrant buying more. So no fabric, no purchases other than the bags mentioned previously.  I did look for shirts and things but didn’t really see anything I liked.  I think I really want to use the stuff I have and I’ve bought a lot these first couple months of the year that I’m feeling drained.

~Happy crafting!
