Scrapitude 2015 Clue #4 5/7/2015

Scrapitude 2015
Clue #4
5/7/2015

I’m back and I’m super excited to be in my sewing room.  I was able to make it to Quiltique in Vegas and added a 12.33 yards to the stash.  Some of it I’ve got plans for and some of it I just got just because.  Anyway, while I was gone, Charlotte posted the last clue for Scrapitude so I will be spending today working on that.  Here’s to a happy Memorial Day and one more day off! 🙂

Stash Report – Week 20, 2015

Nothing in and nothing out.

I did get my act together yesterday and finally decided to put the inner top of Moon Glow together.  I was able to get all the blocks into rows and today I’ll work on getting the rows put together.  It’s definitely doable.  But once that is done – who knows?  I realized yesterday that I’m in various stages of finishing for the top 3 projects I’m working on: Month by Month, Moon Glow, and Tell It To The Stars.  And I feel like piecing…  So the next item on my to do list is Raining Cats and Dogs and that is hand work.  Not something I’m interested in at the moment.  I’m really trying hard not to start something to new so if I have time I will pull out Celtic Solstice which is the next project on my WIP list I have posted on my board.

Quilt List for 2015

quick “where am I” on those top projects:

Scrapitude – waiting on the final clue

Tell It To The Stars – need to piece the backing for this.

Moon Glow – will finish inner top (hopefully today), then I’ll need to cut and piece the borders on.

Hampton Ridge – all the blocks are done, I need to figure out what comes next.  I think I need to cut and piece the sashing on but I’m going off of a memory which is not entirely reliable anymore.

Month by Month – need to finish quilting the borders, then I can trim, bind and label it.

Raining Cats and Dogs – I have one final block to hand applique.  I’m planning to take this with me on my business trip next week.  Hopefully I get to work on it a bit.

Scrapitude 2015 Clue #4 5/7/2015

Scrapitude 2015
Clue #4
5/7/2015

The final clue has not yet been released for Scrapitude but Charlotte has a good excuse.  So in the meantime, I will work on the backing for Tell It To The Stars.  With the whirlwind of activities over the last weekend, I wasn’t able to get anything done for it.  I still have to lay out my pieces on the floor and figure out what I’m going to do.

Machine Applique with Annie Smith Sample 5/10/2015

For Mother’s Day I spent the day at my guild’s workshop with Annie Smith learning how to do a different variation of Machine Applique.  I love the look of applique and I have done a fair amount of hand applique.  For machine applique, I’ve only done a raw edge technique with Laurel Anderson. You can see that attempt here.  That project is still a UFO.  I really should finish that one soon as I believe there is only the border part that needs to be quilted.  Anyway, this mother’s day Annie Smith taught us the technique to use the blanket stitch on our machines.  I wasn’t able to finish but as you can see above I was able to applique down the orange center and the green leaves.

Here’s a close up:

On Saturday I meant to spend time in my sewing room to finish the backing for Tell It To The Stars.  But the hubby surprised me for Mother’s Day with cold hard cash to do with as I wished.  After spending some time figure out what I wanted, I ended up going to the sewing machine shop and I ended up coming home with this:

New Machine

New Machine – 5/09/2015

I know I don’t need another machine and I do not know how to use it yet but plan on going to the shop these next few weeks to learn how to embroider.  I do not know what I’m going to make but it will be something.  You may recall I took my Bernina in to be serviced.  Earlier in the week I picked it up and while I was at the shop drooled over the embroidery machines.  I was thinking all week about them and how much they were and running figures in my head to see if I could swing it.  By the end of the week I had decided against it and told myself to revisit it later.  The hubby truly surprised me with his gift.

For BOMs Away Monday and Design Wall Monday – I’ve still got Scrapitude up.  The final clue is released on Tuesday so I’ll be working on that this week.  Monday, I’ve got Annie Smith’s presentation with the guild.   Tuesday, it’s my turn to take the boy to baseball practice.  He’s got a game on Wednesday and I believe, Thursday is the first day I’ll be able to go to the shop to learn how to use the new machine.  I need a name for it.. any ideas?

Stash Report – Week 19, 2015

happy-mothers-day

Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers out there!

Just a quick note before I head out to my Machine Applique workshop with Annie Smith for my guild.

I bought additional fabric for the backing for Tell It To The Stars.  That’s 2 yards.  Nothing finished.  I did get Clue #4 finished for Scrapitude but it’s not finished to be counted. 🙂 So I’ve got a couple of yards to add.  Also, I’ve been posting my quilty $$ for a couple of weeks and I’m going to stop doing that.  I’ll track it for myself but apparently I’m uncomfortable sharing that info with the world… who knew?!?

WIPs Be Gone

WIP Status:

Scrapitude – I finished clue #4 just in time.  The final clue is being released this coming Tuesday, 5/12/2015.  Here’s how it looks so far with all the blocks on the design wall:

Scrapitude 2015 Clue #4 5/7/2015

Scrapitude 2015
Clue #4
5/7/2015

This weekend is Mother’s Day weekend and I’m attending a workshop with Annie Smith!  I’m so excited I’m dancing!  And…

I think I found my next mystery QAL.  I found it from Quilt Block of the Month and she does a great job of posting free BOMs she finds on the web.  This BOM is perfect for my schedule since Scrapitude will be done this month and I love being part of a mystery QAL.  This one starts in June and will continue until March 2016.  So this will be a new project I will start.  I checked out the previous QAL and I liked how it looks so I’m hoping this next one is just as nice.  Hopefully I can use my scraps like I was able to with Scrapitude but if not, that’s okay.  I have a lot of fabric to use up. 🙂

Happy Quilting everyone!

WIP Wednesday – 5/6/2015

Here are my buys from the quilt show this weekend!

New ruler holder 5/6/2015

New ruler holder
5/6/2015

My new ruler holder was from a local woodmaking guild that had a booth at the show.  It looks like a chess board and I love the quality of the craftmanship.

Hand dyed fabric 5/6/2015

Hand dyed fabric

My other purchase was 3 packages of fat quarters of local hand dyed fabric.  The red at the top seems more bright in the picture.  It’s actually a lot more muted and is more on the darker side than the brighter side.  I do not know yet what I’m going to do with these fabrics.  At the show, I was looking for quality products that I can’t get at my regular LQS.  These products are such items.

I am working on Scrapitude, the second set of pieces for the April clue.  I haven’t got anything to take a picture of but I have been working a little bit at a time on it.  If I can spend more than 15 minutes doing anything I might be able to get all of the second set done this week and possibly the third set.

BOMs Away Monday and Design Wall Monday:

Design Wall Scrapitude - 18 blocks 5/3/2015

Design Wall
Scrapitude – 18 blocks
5/4/2015

I was able to finish the 18 blocks for the first set of pieces for the April clue of Scrapitude.  I still have 2 more sets of something else to do.  Not sure how complex they are yet but hopefully I get them done this week because next week, the May clue is being released.  I’m also getting the Bernina back.  It’s been fun playing on the featherweight but the foot pedal is a little tough to keep pressing down on with my foot and boy is it loud.  The thing is pretty and reliable and perfect for sew ins and workshops but I sure miss my Bernina.

Stash Report – Week 18, 2015

My guild’s quilt show was this weekend so I spent some money and added some yardage.  I noticed that at the show I was paying more attention to the quilting than the design.  In past shows I usually look at how quilts look overall without really paying attention to the quilting.  That was opposite this year and really reflects on my development as a quilter.  I didn’t take pictures this time around since I didn’t have a whole lot of time to spend.  I also noticed that I was looking at the tools and patterns that I couldn’t get at my LQS.  I ended up getting bundles of fat quarters of hand dyed fabric, a skirt pattern and a holder for my ruler.  The ruler holder was made by a local woodworking group and I think it’s beautiful.  I’ll try to remember to take a picture of all my purchases during the day.

Used this week: 0 yards

Used year to Date: -28.75 yards
Added this week: 3 yards
Added Year to Date: 38.75 yards
Net Added for 2015: 10 yards

Quilty $$ –

Spent this week at the quilt show: $131
Spent Year to date (beg 4/12/15): $176

What I want to concentrate on next week:

Keep plugging away on the April clue for Scrapitude.  The May clue will be coming in a couple of weeks so I’d like to get this one done before the next one is released.

Scrapitude
Clue #4
half of the first block is done

Here’s what I’m working on this week: Clue #4 of Scrapitude – I got a smidge further on this step.  I’ve got some of them pinned together.  I’m not sure I’ll be able to do much more this week.  We are out of the house every weeknight this week and have a booked weekend.  I’ll be happy with getting a bit done at a time. 🙂
