Stash Report – Week 14, 2018

Nothing Used and Nothing Added.  This weekend is my LQS’ anniversary sale and I really want to go.  But I don’t need to. I have nothing I need to buy. And I have no space to keep new fabric.  I’m on a mission to use up my fabric and I’m really slow right now in the quilty area right now.  So I’m avoiding my LQS. If I’d known that the anniversary sale was happening this weekend, I would not have gone a couple of weekends ago.  But I’ll need to remember for next year.

The fabric stash:

  • Used since last time: 0 yards
  • Used year to date: 9.25 yards
  • Added since last time: 0 yards
  • Added year to Date: 11.5 yards
  • Net added for 2018: 2.25 yards

For yarn: I am still almost done with Kayla’s Weasley sweater and I think it will be done this week as I’ve got about 5 rounds to do on the neck and all I have to do after that is weave in all the ends. I did get the Spattergroit socks finished:

And because the yarn is Knit Picks Felici, I used 2 balls of yarn and I get to mark 2 skeins used!  Nothing added!

The yarn stash:

  • Used since last time: 2 skeins
  • Used year to date: 9 skeins
  • Added since last time: 0 skeins
  • Added year to date: 24 skeins
  • Net ADDED for 2018: 15 skeins

Because I’ve been busy this past week, I haven’t had a chance to prep block 9.  I’ll be taking care of that today.

Stash Report – Week 13, 2018

Another couple of weeks has flown by since my last report.  Last week was my baby boy’s 13th birthday party and it wasn’t much of a party but more of a hangout.  He invited a few close friends to play video games with and that was all he wanted.  We invited a few of our close friends to help us celebrate not having children in the house anymore.  And celebrate the beginnings of the next phase… A house with only teenagers.  They are fast growing up and soon will be heading off to lead their own lives.  I’m sad and happy all at the same time.  Anyway, by the time it was Sunday I was just exhausted and couldn’t do more than sit in front of the TV and binge watch Requiem.  I don’t generally do scary but somehow I got sucked into this show on Netflix.  I blame it on exhaustion that caused me not to think clearly.  I did make it out to my LQS at some point this last 2 weeks and supported them a bit by purchasing 3 yards of fabric.  I think it’s because my numbers were going in the right direction that I had to add to it again to bring it back to the negative.  /sigh  Oh well.  I will do better next time.

The fabric stash:

  • Used since last time: 0 yards
  • Used year to date: 9.25 yards
  • Added since last time: 3 yards
  • Added year to Date: 11.5 yards
  • Net added for 2018: 2.25 yards

For yarn: I am still almost done with Kayla’s Weasley sweater and I hope that it will be done soon so I can add some major numbers to the “used” bit.  I’m about to make the same thing for Jacob but in blue and silver.  And my order came in last week.  In addition, I’ve got 2 pairs of socks finished and I’m almost done with 1 more.

The yarn stash:

  • Used since last time: 2 skeins
  • Used year to date: 7 skeins
  • Added since last time: 10 skeins
  • Added year to date: 24 skeins
  • Net ADDED for 2018: 17 skein

Stash Report – Week 11, 2018

It’s been a couple of weeks and life has been a bit hectic every weekend.  Last weekend I was away at another guild workshop.  This time I attended a class with Pat Blair on Free Motion Quilting.  And that Friday night attended another UFO Party with some friends.  I had these practice sandwiches I made that I finished off with some binding and am now using as place mats.

Don’t look at them too closely. These started out as a practice quilt on my midarm back in the day.  After quilting, I cut them up into placemats and they’ve been waiting to be bound ever since.  I finished 3 of them and that’s about 1 yard used.  Woot!  Then at the workshop I used up 7 practice sandwiches.

This weekend, I made this cute little bag… and it used 2 FQs!  So, are you counting, that’s about 5 yards used!  14 FQs (Practice sandwiches) + 2 for the baggie = 16 FQs/4 = 4 yards plus the 1 for the mats. 🙂

The fabric stash:

  • Used since last time: 5 yards
  • Used year to date: 9.25 yards
  • Added since last time: 0 yards
  • Added year to Date: 8.5 yards
  • Net used for 2018: 0.75 yards

For yarn: I am almost done with Kayla’s Weasley sweater.  I’m about to make the same thing for Jacob but in blue and silver.  Since I need a little break between the two sweaters, I’m in no rush and told my LYS to order it when they next do their main order. In the meantime, I’m going to start a new project and bought 3 skeins from my LYS.

The yarn stash:

  • Used since last time: 0 skeins
  • Used year to date: 5 skeins
  • Added since last time: 3 skeins
  • Added year to date: 14 skeins

Stash Report – Week 09, 2018

No fabric in or out.  I was able to get the back finished for Celtic Solstice and then I trimmed it to square it up so now I have to measure it again to make sure it is still 120×120.  But I’m another step closer to quilting it.  I had an itch to work on another project yesterday but didn’t so I hope I find the time to put work on something today.

The fabric stash:

  • Used since last time: 0 yards
  • Used year to date: 4.25 yards
  • Added since last time: 0 yards
  • Added year to Date: 8.5 yards
  • Net added for 2018: 4.25 yards

For yarn: I bought one ball this week but it’s for a planned sweater.  One ball does not a sweater make so… I’m currently making a sweater for my daughter and it’s in the final stages. I’ve got a few more inches of the sleeves to knit and the neck and I’ve got to seam all the pieces together.  I’m hoping it will be done in a couple of weeks. The next sweater in the queue is for my son. So I’ve placed an order for the main color but decided to get the contrasting color for the letter while I was at the shop placing the order.  That’s the one ball.  🙂

In addition, I finished my February socks and while each sock is about 30g I used Knit Pick Felici and each ball is 50g so in this case, I used 2 balls!

Stash Report – Week 08, 2018

QuiltCon is this weekend and so far… I haven’t bought any fabric yet.  🙂  Let’s see if that continues for today…

I also took a trip last weekend to Tahoe and… I didn’t buy any fabric… WHO AM I?????  It helped that I couldn’t find a quilt shop in the area and when we made it to Reno on Sunday all the shops were closed. My pocketbook was thankful. My closet was grateful.

The fabric stash:

  • Used since last time: 0 yards
  • Used year to date: 4.25 yards
  • Added since last time: 0 yards
  • Added year to Date: 8.5 yards
  • Net added for 2018: 4.25 yards

For yarn: I did make it to a couple of yarn shops.  There was a yarn shop in South Lake Tahoe and Jimmy Beans in Reno.  None of the other yarn shops in Reno was open on Sundays so I didn’t go crazy.  Just 3 skeins added to the stash!

The yarn stash:

Stash Report – Week 07, 2018

I know I go on and on about the same things… but I rarely win things and Sunday’s is a stash report.  I won this basket of about 17 yards and again I’m not going to add it to my stash report. In the past I usually do so I get an accurate report at the end of the year of what came in and out.  But this year I’m being more particular because I’m trying to be more mindful of what I buy and bring in.  Which I can’t be with winnings.  I want to enjoy my winnings but it would be disastrous for my stash report and make me feel a bit low about it.  So I’m not going to add it this time around.  I’m not sure if that will be the case for always but it’s the case for now and probably for this year’s reports.  Other than that I have not purchased anything or finished anything.  I’ll take those numbers!  woohoo!

The fabric stash:

  • Used since last time: 0 yards
  • Used year to date: 4.25 yards
  • Added since last time: 0 yards
  • Added year to Date: 8.5 yards
  • Net added for 2018: 4.25 yards

For yarn: Since I’ve finished the Martine Hat!

Martine Hat

You can find details as to the yarn and pattern on Ravelry.  I’m mellies1000needlz on Ravelry. But that’s one skein used.  It didn’t take a whole skein but I’m counting it as a whole skein.  It would be too cumbersome for me to count in grams or yardage.  So I make it easy on myself and only count the number of skeins used.  The leftover gets put in a bag and I’ll use it somewhere else later when I get around to it.

The yarn stash:

  • Used since last time: 1 skeins
  • Used year to date: 3 skeins
  • Added since last time: 0 skeins
  • Added year to date: 7 skeins
  • Net ADDED for 2018: 4 skein

Slow progress but progress nonetheless!  I’m in Tahoe this weekend so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to play with this piece while I’m here.  I did take it with me just in case as I really want to get a bit of hand work today.

Stash Report – Week 04, 2018

So… Road happened and of course, I bought stuff.  I must say though that I didn’t go crazy like I could have gone.  I bought 6.5 yards of fabric and it’s fabric I couldn’t get here.  At least not easily.  I bought imported Asian fabric with fun prints. Here’s an example of what I got:

I love it. It’s linen and something I’ll probably use in a cute bag but I’ve been collecting linen over the last few years and haven’t used it.  I’m sure none of you do this! 😉  I do not know what I’m going to do with it yet.  I did spend a few hours this weekend making the back for Celtic Solstice and I’m almost done.  This past week I’ve been piecing scrap fabric together and making fabric.  I have enjoyed it.  At first, my intention was to use the made fabric for the back of Celtic solstice as these scraps were all the scraps from making the top.  But it was looking like a hot mess.  I was enjoying the piecing though so I kept going even though the more I did the more I decided not to use it for the back.  Now I’ve got a bunch of mini blocks that I could probably cut down to match them all to a particular size, attach it to coordinating strips and then create a little top. Or I can save them and create scrappy crazy quilts. I don’t know. But it’s gotten me out of my funk and into my sewing again.  So much so that I am almost done with my back. I ended up taking the larger chunks of Celtic Solstice fabric that I didn’t cut into and piecing the together.  I’m at about 93″ x 90″ and I need it to be closer to 120″ x 120″.  I believe my top is at 115″ x 115″.  It’s been awhile.  But that’s the measurement in my head.  I’m pretty sure it’s correct or at the very least not bigger than it. I had to connect with my Bernina dealer to make sure it would fit on their long arm for when I go in to quilt this.  So I’m getting closer to having a finished.  I hope that comes soon.

Stash Report – Week 02, 2018

So 2 things happened since last week.  The first, I found a coupon in one of my bags for my LQS. It was a Buy One Yard, Get One Yard Free card.  And the last day to use it was yesterday.  I could not let that go to waste. Second, I received a $50 pre-paid mastercard from a survey I took before Christmas.  I actually received it a while ago but must have thrown it in one of my drawers to look into later.  Luckily, I cleaned my junk drawer last week and found it.  What is a crafter to do but go to her LQS and buy a couple of yards of fabric.  I’ve still got a bit left on the card so I’ll be taking the balance with me to my LYS or maybe Road if it lasts that long.
