Gratitude Diaries: Day 49

I’m grateful for…

… another sunny day in Southern California.  When I’m working I tend to go, go, go.  Sometimes it’s hard to stop, walk outside, and enjoy a bit of sunshine.  I did that today and it sure brightened up my mind and provided a breath of fresh air.

… in a couple of days, my mom will be in town.  The hubby and kids have been doing their part to get the house ready.  All the Christmas presents we have gotten so far are wrapped and under the tree.  My mom will be staying in the girl’s room so, it has been cleaned up and vacuumed.  I had planned to do a quick intensive clean right before I have to pick my mom up from the airport but they saved me from having to do it!  I think I’ll just make sure under the bed is completely clear and vacuumed.  My mom has allergies and she is sensitive to dust bunnies.  But that’s all I’ve got to do.  The hubby and kids make my life so much easier!  I’m so grateful for everything they do.

… Veggie Green.  I don’t eat enough veggies and I love drinking it to get in as quickly and as much as possible.  Most veggie drinks do not taste that great but I love the taste of Veggie Green.  The boy enjoys it too so I’ll get it a large bottle for lunch and bring home what I’ve got left.  He’ll usually finish it up for me.

Have a great evening!

Gratitude Diaries: Day 46, 47 and 48

Life has been busy and when my nights are busy doing stuff, my gratitude diaries do not get posted.  I still think about it and what I would have posted had I got around to being in front of a computer.  So for the last few days, I’m grateful for…

… taking time out to spend time with friends and family.  The last few nights I’ve been hanging out with long time friends.  I always enjoy this especially when it seems that we aren’t always able to find time to hang out.  I am so grateful that we found the time this holiday period.

… trying new things.  We went to the tea festival for the first time ever yesterday.  I went with the kids and a friend and you never know what to expect when you go to something for the first time. It’s a little scary at first to try something new.  I get a little worried taking the kids.  But both kids were in good spirits and while we have discovered that the boy is not much of a tea drinker (unless there are sugar cubes in it), we were able to take pictures and explore a part of LA that they had never been before.  We also went to a tea room we’d never been before and it made us so grateful for the tea room near our house.  The new tea room was not as good as the one that we normally go to so the girl and I are looking forward to our next trip to our regular tea room.

… busy days and quiet days.  While the last few days have been busy, I scheduled a very quiet Sunday to end the week with.  I knew that having so much time out of the house meant very little sewing time.  And without sewing time, I get a little cranky.  So I’m grateful for scheduling a slow, quiet, relaxing Sunday dedicated to me and my sewing room.  The family fell in line with today’s requirements and pretty much hung out with me.  The girl went to take care of her volunteer requirements for the semester so she was out of the house most of the day.

Have a great evening!

Gratitude Diaries: Day 45

I don’t have a lot of time this morning to post my regular living simply post.  But I did want to get in my gratitude diary from last night.  I celebrated the birthday of one of my long time friends and I am grateful to her and our friendship.  It was a wonderful night.  We experimented at a new restaurant and while it is not worth going back, now we know.  And we enjoyed ourselves with each other. Then we headed over to the Clipper game.  It was a sad sad loss.

My work day surprisingly ended early yesterday.  I usually have a late call that generally ends around 4pm but yesterday, we were able to start early, get our items discussed and done, and I was finished with the call by 3:30.  That helped because I needed the time to get ready and leave to make it to downtown in time to meet my friend.  I am so grateful for time adjusting itself so effortlessly around me allowing me to do the things I need to do.

Traffic was a mess.  We ran into a minor accident right at the beginning that set us back 15-20 minutes.  Once we past it, the rest of the ride was normal LA traffic.  While we were late, we were able to get seated right away and get our orders in.  I am grateful for being able to spend the time with the hubby and talk about today’s basketball events and listen to my current favorite basketball podcast.

Looking forward to today and the surprises that the world has to offer!

Have a good day!

Gratitude Diaries: Day 44

I am grateful for…

… winning a prize!  One of our fellow bloggers was hosting a giveaway and emailed me that I won.  I checked her site and didn’t see it mentioned so I’m not sure if I can mention it yet.  I’ll say which blogger once she gives the ok. 🙂 It’s so exciting and I feel so lucky and grateful to have won something.

… my mastermind group.  Today was my first time where I can share a problem and receive feedback.  It’s so wonderful to get ideas on how to solve my problems from objective people.  I’ve got a lot of homework on my plate as I research some of the suggestions and open myself to solutions I never considered.

… my daughters new phone arrived.  Last week sometime I posted how grateful I was at the ease of claiming a new phone through the insurance program through AT&T.  It arrived and it was a breeze to get it all set up and up to speed.  Now, she has a reliable phone to call us when she needs us to pick her up! 🙂

Have a good evening!

Gratitude Diaries: Day 43

I am grateful for…

… a cold day in Southern California.  It feels like winter is upon us.  I took the girl to cheer practice at 6am and it was 34 degrees.  Up until now, we would have a cold night here or there but nothing that cold and it would usually warm up again.  It doesn’t feel like it will be warming up soon.  Now if only the rains would come.

… learning how to use the central air unit in the office.  I got in the office and it was 67 degrees inside.  Luckily I had my fingerless mitts that I knitted a couple of summers ago to keep my hands warm.  But it was still way too cold.  So I called maintenance and they showed us how to work it.  The office made it up to 75 degrees by the time I was leaving for the day.  I was even able to take my jacket off!

… staying warm in bed reading a book.

Have a good evening!

Gratitude Diaries: Day 42

I am grateful for…

… my family.  I know I say it over and over again.  But when I get to spend days at home soaking in my crafty time, away from crowds and traffic, I love them even more.  We’re such homebodies.  The kids do not need to be entertained every second of the day.  We give them their chores, they read, they play, they hang out.  Not a peep of complaint from them or the hubby.

… having a mid arm and a quilt frame.  It was used and it’s not the best out there but it works for now.  I’m in the middle of quilting and I’m getting better but I’m recognizing places on the frame that doesn’t run smoothly and may be why I have a hard time getting a nice curve.  I’m thinking that I will probably get a new frame at some point.  But not right now.  I want to see if as I use the frame more it gets better over time.  The frame was in the previous owner’s garage for some time before I bought it and it was in my garage until I brought it into the house.  So, being in the garages may have affected it.  I don’t know but I don’t want to buy anything until I’ve used it for awhile.  But when I do decide to buy a new frame, I plan to get a bigger one.  I think my current frame fits a queen size quilt.  And really, we only have queen size beds.  But I don’t like to feel constricted and not being able to quilt a king if I wanted to.  We’ll see what the price differences are.  Despite these issues, I love having it and learning how to quilt on it.  It’s not easy learning new things sometimes and when I watch tutorials everyone else’s machine seems to run so much smoother and less difficult than mine.  When I’m done quilting Tell It To The Stars, I may bring it in for a good servicing.  I don’t know when it was last serviced (I haven’t done it yet and I got it earlier this year).  It may run better once it has been serviced.

… living simply.  I usually do a newsletter during the holidays.  I didn’t do one last year and it is looking like I’m not going to do one this year either.  I want to enjoy the holidays.  I don’t want to stress myself out by trying to do too much like I used to do when the kids were younger.  I think we’ll make it a simple holiday season.  Already, we’ve got something going on every weekend so we don’t need to make it more complicated.

Have a good evening!

Gratitude Diaries: Days 39, 40, 41

Day 39 was Thanksgiving so that entire post was a gratitude diary.  Today is for day 40 and 41.

I am grateful for…

… yoga.  I went yesterday and today.  During a bit of meditation, an idea of a long term plan to a problem I’ve been mulling over came to me.  I don’t know if it will work, but I’ll start on it and we’ll see where it takes me.  I’m excited and looking forward to its implementation.

… The girl went to her first cheer party.  It was a chance for the girls to get to know each other and bond.  I was nervous for her.  I could sense she was worried too.  Her close cheer friends weren’t going for some reason so while she knew all the girls attending, she wasn’t really close to them.  And I had to make corn for her to bring to the party.  It was potluck.  I don’t really cook around here.  So I was nervous about making it.  I think it turned out pretty well.  I guess you can’t really mess it up.  Just stick a whole lot of butter, some salt, a little pepper and it is good to go.  Anyway, she had a great time.  She was able to get know some of the older girls better.  She’s part of the freshman squad so she didn’t know the older girls as well as the freshman girls.  I’m so grateful she is so much better at social functions at her age than I was at her age. 🙂

… One more day until it is time to work.  I can spend another day doing what I want: yoga, study, quilt… 🙂

… I don’t know what it is about Thanksgiving but I usually get around to working on my goals during this break.  This year was no exception.  I’ve been working on some work goals, personal goals, quilt/hobby goals, etc.  They’re almost ready to be finalized.  I’ll post the quilty/hobby ones as soon as they are.  I’ll need to figure out how I’m going to keep my work and personal goals front and center.  I review the quilty/hobby ones twice a month so I make a lot of progress on them.  I don’t review my work and personal ones as often.

Have a good evening!

Gratitude Diaries: Days 38

I am grateful for…

… a long break from the office.  I’ll be spending most of my time doing creative stuff.  I’ll post more about what I’ll be doing over the next few days. It feels like I haven’t been working a lot but in reality, I generally only count billable hours.  I don’t generally count non-billable hours.  This is a big problem because it feels like I don’t work much but I do – a lot.  Too much sometimes.  I know I need to recognize the non-billable hours but I tend to forget about them.  So, over the next few weeks I will be entering all those hours on my tracker.  That way I don’t feel guilty about leaving the office at 2.

… resisting going to the quilt shop today to get fabric for Bonnie Hunters mystery quilt.  I do not want to invest too much into it in case I don’t like it.  But I want to play along.  I know I’ve got something in my stash to at least start playing… so I’ll be doing that on Friday for #BFSI

… not having to do too much tomorrow like many other people in the US.  The family and I will be getting up at a leisurely time (whenever we get up).  We will have sticky buns (and coffee for the me and the hubby) for breakfast.  Stick the turkey in the oven, fix the stuffing, the gravy, and whatever else I bought yesterday.  Once everything is complete, then we’ll be having an early or late lunch.  We invited one of our friends over who we heard was planning on spending the day at home alone (probably playing a video game).  Hopefully he comes over.  Then I’ll be messing around in my sewing room doing stuff until the hubby decides he wants to go to his friends place for dinner.  At that point, we’ll all get ready and leave for a Pilipino Thanksgiving that may or may not have Turkey.  ;0  I think they will and if they don’t, that’s okay because I would have had turkey at home.

Have a good evening!

Gratitude Diaries: Days 37

I am grateful for…

… getting all of our holiday groceries done today.  The store was crazy and I circled the parking lot a couple of times but I was able to get in and get everything we need.  Now all we need to do is cook everything on Thursday. 🙂

… getting a lot of creative time in today and clear my email inbox.  I needed the creative time today but I also needed to go through those emails. 🙂

… a Clipper win.  They needed to break their losing streak.  Next step is to win the next few home games.  I’m so thankful that the hubby was able to sell our tickets for some of these games because they fell on dates we wouldn’t be able to go.  We’ll be using that money for a quick Vegas trip with the family and some of our friends in a few weeks.

Have a good evening!

Gratitude Diaries: Days 36

I am grateful for…

… I came home to a fully decorated Christmas tree.  The hubby brought in the Christmas decorations from the garage and had the children put up the tree and decorate the house.  What an awesome surprise!  There is one less to do item on my list.

… short weeks.  I enjoyed going into the office today but I’m so grateful that the work week is over on Wednesday.  I have so much creative energy right now that all I want to do is go in and play.  The sad thing is that I really want to pull out a new project and start working on it.

… AT&T making it easy to put a claim through to get my daughter’s phone replaced.  Her phone fell and cracked.  While it can still turn on and off, the sensors are broken and she is unable to use the touch screen.  I was worried about putting in a claim but I was able to do it pretty easily online.

Have a good evening!
