Happy Wednesday!
Not much has been done since break. I got a bit of knitting done and a bit of cross stitch done during the basketball game Monday night. Last night, I was able to get the final side of border #2 on Hampton Ridge. First I fussy cut the final side. I made sure to read the measurements again. I didn’t want to make any mistakes.
The next step is to miter those corners, then I can get Border #3 on. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get to this until Sunday. I’ve got a bunch of evening activities these next few nights and I will need to have my full attention when I go in to actually miter. I will try to get those strips to line up properly but we’ll see how it goes.

Just a little late but it’s still Monday! It’s all about Hampton Ridge right now as I finish up the last few blocks for Kit #10. Next weekend it’s November – can you believe it? I’ve got to get going on my annual family newsletter and it’s time to go Christmas shopping again. Sorry for the poor quality of the pictures. While I’m just posting these now, I took the picture way early this morning before the sun came out. 🙂

For BOM Away Monday,
Block 11 of Moon Glow. I was able to get all the foundation piecing done for the final block of Moon Glow! Now, all I have to do is applique the center and piece the borders. That will be the project for next weekend.

For BOM Away Monday,
I know this is the same picture I posted yesterday but this was what I was able to get done for BOM Away Monday. But it was finished on Saturday between work and family obligations. On Sunday, I was able to get Moon Glow cut and ready to Foundation piece. But, I took my printer into the office a few weeks ago so I couldn’t print the pages I needed to start piecing the block together. I was surprised that I finished all the cutting so soon. The picture looked like there were a lot of pieces to it so I thought I would have a lot more to cut. If I really was inspired, I could have gone to the office to print it but unless I have to, I do not leave the house in this heat.
I took the opportunity instead to pull out Raining Cats and Dogs.
And a close up of Block 7…
I got the first floor down and I’ve started working on the awning.
All in all, it’s been a productive weekend. PIQF is coming up soon. I do not have plans to go but I really want to. I just want to scroll through the vendor aisles with my credit card. But that is going to have to be another time because I’m saving my money for something special coming up. ;0

Here’s my empty design wall at the moment. I would usually have Tell It To The Stars up now but since it is all pieced together, it doesn’t fit and has a tendency to fall to the floor. So, it’s empty except for the two scrappy blocks I pieced together as part of my leaders and enders the last couple of weeks.

For BOM Away Monday,
It’s been awhile since I last posted but in that post I featured Hampton Ridge Block 34 and told ya’ll about making the mistake of sewing the wrong sides together for one of the borders for the month’s kit (#9). Well, Block 35 needed those borders so I spent a bit of yesterday picking out the stitches for the HSTs on the border. It didn’t take too long they were just tedious. Since I had put them together with the thangle paper thing the stitches were very tiny. I was afraid that the quarter inch would fall off. But they look fine and everything came together fine. Now that is behind me and I can move on to the next block.
I also finished
Moon Glow Block 10 finally.

For BOM Away Monday,
That countdown starts now. I’ve only got 7 blocks left and I’m getting more and more excited about finishing Hampton Ridge. But in my rush I made a mistake that I haven’t made once in the previous 33 blocks. Whenever I open the new kit for the month, I usually make the borders first before any of the blocks just to get them out of the way. The BOM uses the thangles method so I cut 2-5″ squares for every block for each fabric. Then I sew them right sides together with the thangle paper. One of the times I did this I sewed one right side to another wrong side which means I have to pick out stitching. Of course, I didn’t notice it until after I’d cut everything out. I’m going to set that border aside and do the blocks first. I’m hoping that afterwards, I’ll have enough of the fabric to just start all over again with that border and not have to worry about ripping the one I messed up and sewing it up again. Or, if not, I may just use a different fabric for the border on it. I have enough leftovers of other fabric that I don’t think it will be a big deal.

I added the bottom row since last Monday. I love my design wall where it is. It is a bit inconvenient having to walk all the way around to get into the office and I keep having to remind myself not to try to open the accordion doors. But once I’m in, I love looking at what’s on there.

For BOM Away Monday,
Sorry yesterday’s post was such a bummer about not having the sewjo to continue with Hampton Ridge. I finished Block 30 pretty early Sunday morning but then I started doing other stuff that ate up my time. Later in the afternoon, I decided to put up my design wall. I felt that having my design wall up would help get my sewjo back and inspire me to get caught up. In the process I realized that I was almost done. There are a total of 41 blocks for this quilt and at that time I was at 30 which meant I only had 11 left to do. Then I realized that all the kits I had encompassed all the blocks that I have left to do. This means the quilt is almost done!!!! Thanks to Susan, Libby, and DeeDee for the comments yesterday. They made me feel so good and kept me moving forward with this quilt. I should be getting the final finishing kit next week. The inspiration got me going and I was able to get Block 31 and 32 done before the end of the weekend.

I took over the formal dining room of the house and that room had accordion doors that open up into the living room. Then there is a regular door that connects the room with the kitchen. I’ve had the accordion doors open as it’s the quickest route from my bedroom into the room. It also makes me feel like I’m part of things when I’m in their working or sewing. But with it being open, I do not have any open wall space to put up the design wall. I decided to try having the accordion doors closed and have the design wall cover it.

Again, nothing finished and I’m okay with that. I’m another step closer to getting caught up with Hampton Ridge. I can tell my enthusiasm for getting caught up is starting to wane so I may pull out one of the WIPs that I was working on before I fell behind on the BOMs.
It is the beginning of August so I’ve got the new clue for Tell It To The Stars to complete. I’ve also got to review my July goals and post my August goals. Many things in line to keep me busy.
The best thing is that I’m on vacation for the next two weeks. Er – well, as much of a vacation as a business owner can take. I’m checking emails for anything going crazy and I’ve got a few conference calls I absolutely could not not be on. But other than that – I’m free. We’re heading over to Carlsbad for the latter half of next week for the boy’s trip to Legoland. That was the trip we were supposed to take during the kids’ spring break but had to cancel. Then the following week, I’ll be getting the kids settled at their new school. I’ve already enrolled the boy and the girls enrollment was started. They need some additional items from me so I’ll be getting that over to them on Monday before we go out of town. So other than that, I’m free to spend it in my sewing room. 🙂

Whew! What a whirlwind of a week! Nothing added; nothing used. I arrived back late Friday night with just enough time to unpack my backpack and fill it with my cheer mom stuff – the necessary hand applique project, camera, video, iPad, make up, and snacks. Slept and woke up way too early to get the girl’s make up done and we trekked over to Cow Palace for our second cheer comp of the year. And if you follow me on Instagram (thousandneedles) or twitter (@stuckonquilting), you would have been blown away by the pictures I shared. I would share them again but the girl was already embarrassed by the bit I shared so I’ll restrain myself. Until I start posting other pics, you can still see the pictures on the right hand side of the page. Or you can follow me! 😉 The team did much better than last time and won 2nd place! I’m a proud momma.
The next best thing about yesterday’s competition was that it ended early! By 3:30pm, I was back at home and able to be in my sewing room soon after arrival. I pulled out Block 5 of Hampton Ridge and finished it for Monday’s BOM Away Post. Today, I’ll be working on step 2 of Celtic Solstice. I think that will keep me busy enough today, don’t you?
