Happy Saturday, friends!  It’s a wonderful thing to be caught up!  Here is Block 3 of my current LQS’ BOM Have Yourself a Little Quilty Christmas! based on the blocks in Lori Holt’s Quilty Fun! Now I can put it away and not think about it until 9/14 when we pick up the next kit.  If I remember correctly, this is a 6 month project so we’re halfway through.  If you missed the previous posts from this week, here’s a quick peak at the previous finishes:

Sorry for the shadows on the pics.  Now that I’m caught up with this BOM, I’m going to focus next on my Spooky Halloween blocks.  This is another BOM offered through my LQS.  It started a month or two before the Christmas one and the idea is that we will have the top done by Halloween.  hahahaha… I don’t think so.  To be fair, there is a lot of appliquè in this project and I’m not a fast appliquè-er.  And, I’d rather enjoy the process than try to get this thing done quickly.  So, I plan to concentrate next on all the blocks I can piece together.  I’ll still appliquè a bit when I have time which tends to be on the weekends.  I believe I have the 4th kit in my project bin but I haven’t yet pieced all the blocks in the 3rd kit.  I’ll be working on those next. As I’ve been mentioning, I’ve been piecing the pieced border for Missing Ivy as a leader/ender for the last week or so.  It’s almost done.  I probably have 4-5 more to put together and it will be ready to finish and put on to Missing Ivy.  Once that is ready, I plan to finish that step and move on to the next one. 🙂 Things are progressing very nicely.

Back to school hit us hard this past week.  It’s the girl’s second week of school and the boy’s first week.  And sheesh were we all tired.  We had a couple of school meetings to attend in the evenings – a volunteer mixer at my girl’s school for those of us interested in volunteering and looking to find out what kind of opportunities there were.  And a new parent to my boy’s middle school.  And a couple of dinners with friends.  I think I overscheduled and I’ll need to be more careful now that we’re back to school.  Children grow up so fast and I’m trying not to think to hard on that.  So, today we’re hosting an End of Summer BBQ and Swim Party at our house.  🙂  Later today, I’ll be driving around picking up all the food I ordered while the hubby gets the grill going.  I am going to enjoy the heat before it starts cooling down!

Was able to finish Block 2 in the August kit for Have Yourself a Little Quilty Christmas!  I’m hoping to get Block 3 done tonight so I can work on some Spooky Halloween blocks next week.  It’s all about the seasonal quilts at the moment!  I am still working on piecing the borders for Missing Ivy as my leaders and enders, so I haven’t given up on the rest of my projects. 🙂

I’m working on getting the 3 blocks for August done.  There’s a lot of little fiddly pieces and the worse part is cutting all those pieces.  But it’s so cute and I’m enjoying the process and the fabric.  During the middle of the work week I spend one evening cutting and the other evening piecing everything together.  This is the first block and I hope I can get the other 2 blocks completed by the end of the week.  Wish me luck! 🙂

I put some of the blocks together and now I’m all done with the June and July kits.  I’m ready to get going on the August kit I picked up last week!

Here was my list last week:

  • Hampton Ridge – prep the backing … done
  • Celtic Solstice – continue working on these as my leaders and enders… done
  • Missing Ivy – head over to the LQS and buy white on white fabric.  Then, I can continue my work on step #14 … done.. I’m working on finishing Step #14 …
  • Provence – continue working on the alternative blocks … not done
  • Spooky Halloween … Row 2, block 1 – continue to applique more pieces … done… but I’ve still got a lot of pieces before this block is finished
  • Have yourself a Quilty Little Christmas … Month 2: Block 3 and create my project page….  I finished the blocks but I haven’t gotten around to creating my project page… maybe this week!
  • Cross Stitch – For Bukid, work on row 5 … done

So this week, here’s my target:

  • Hampton Ridge – prep the batting … I want to get this on the frame this week
  • Celtic Solstice – hold off on this as Missing Ivy’s border prep is being worked on as my leaders/enders while I work on Spooky Halloween pieced blocks and Have yourself a Quilty Little Christmas
  • Missing Ivy – prep this border as my leaders/enders
  • Provence – hold off on this one
  • Spooky Halloween … Row 2, block 1 – continue to applique more pieces and get a pieced block done.  I’m tired of not getting anything finished for this quilt even though I’m working on it.  Handwork is so slow and I need to get a pieced block done so I feel like I’m making progress here.  I just picked up Row 4 so I’ve got pieced blocks I can work on in Row 3 and Row 4.
  • Have yourself a Quilty Little Christmas … create my project page and Month 3: block 1

I’m looking forward to a great week!

I don’t normally post about these on Fridays but I’ve got a couple of finishes that I’m really happy about.  First my really long UFO for cross stitch is finally done and in the frame!  The hubby already hung it on the wall!

Spooky Halloween Row 2, Block 1 ...in progress... 8/3/16

Spooky Halloween
Row 2, Block 1
…in progress…
8/3/16

Last week I was able to piece down all the pieces I prepped so I prepped the next set of pieces.  I’ll be working on these over the next few weeks.  Hand applique is a slow process but I enjoy it.  I’ll machine applique when the pieces are larger.

Yesterday, we made the trek over to Vegas to enjoy our summer before the kids go back to school next week.  I can work from my hotel room for a few hours every morning and do family stuff in the afternoon.  We left the house at 5am and made it to the state line by about 9:45.  I had a conference call at 10:30 so while the kids played at the arcade I bunkered up in the car with my laptop and my phone.  Then we drove the final hour to BabyStacks to have some red velvet pancakes.  I love them!  The girl and I shared because the plate comes with 6 midsize pancakes.  More than enough for one person.  Then we went to UNLV to check out the school and buy some Rebels paraphernalia.  None of us are UNLV alumnus but we had fun hanging out a few hours while we waited for the right time to check in.

It was hot!  Not sure the kids would like to go here when the time comes but it was a nice visit.

And here’s our view from one of the windows in our hotel room:

I brought my handwork with me so I’ll be working on them during our time here.

block 2

Here’s the second block for Have Yourself a Quilty Little Christmas.  It takes a lot longer than it looks.  I plan to get a block a week finished since we get 4 blocks per month.  I’m already a month behind so I’m trying to get 2 blocks a week finished until I catch up.  Since it took me a couple of hours to finish this block I’m not sure I have the patience to do 2 blocks a week.
