Celtic Solstice 4 blocks 11/21/2016

Celtic Solstice
4 blocks
11/21/2016

Okay. I don’t know what to call this.  This quilt is huge and my previous step was to attach Block A’s and Block B’s into pairs.  After that I attached them into what I called 4-patches even though these are obviously not 4-patches.  So I guess they could be called 4-blocks?  I don’t know but I’ve got all the 4-blocks I need for this top.  The next step is to attach a pair to the right side of 5 of these 4-blocks.  Then attach a pair to the bottom of 4 of these 4-blocks (with one odd one needing a corner piece).  We’re getting close to being done with this top and I’m getting excited.

Bonnie Hunter’s mystery quilt this year starts on Friday and I’ve yet to pull fabric from the stash.  I’m working entirely from my stash for this one right now so I’ll be pulling as I need to.  I still have last year’s in a bin but that one is going to have to wait.  I’ll probably use that one as my next leader/ender project when Scrapitude 2016 is complete.

Here was my list from a couple of weeks ago:

  • I’m heading out of town on Wednesday and I won’t be back until Sunday so I’m not putting anything on my list.  I am taking some hand work and some knitting.

Ha!  That was not a list but I accomplished doing nothing but knitting.

So this week, here’s my target:

  • Celtic Solstice – attach the right sides (5) and the bottoms (4) and the odd one in the corner (1)
  • Scrapitude 2016 – Okay so I’ve been very good at getting the first step done as my leaders/enders for Celtic Solstice but since I’ve been back I’m slowly running out of one of the needed pieces for the first step.  I’m not sure if I put away the baggie with these pieces (and I’ll need to look around for them) or if I just didn’t cut enough originally (totally possible) or if Charlotte didn’t tell us to cut enough (I don’t think so because she did make updates throughout the progress and I don’t remember seeing her say anything about this particular piece.  So I need to do some research on this one.
  • Provence – I need to figure out what the next step is.
  • Area One 2012 Mystery Quilt – do one of the kits
  • En Provence –  Bonnie’s 2016 Mystery – Retrieve the first clue on Friday and hopefully have time to get started on it!

I’m looking forward to a great week!

Here was my list last week:

  • Celtic Solstice – my first step to get this top done by year end is to piece all the block As with the block Bs into pairs.  I’d like to get those done before I head off to Colorado next week. … DONE!!!
  • Provence – Finish the other 2 sides of the third round of the alternative blocks. … DONE!!!
  • 2012 SoCal Quilter’s Run Mystery Quilt – Area One: Do the next clue I have fabric for. … NOT DONE!!!

So this week, here’s my target:

  • I’m heading out of town on Wednesday and I won’t be back until Sunday so I’m not putting anything on my list.  I am taking some hand work and some knitting.

I also didn’t get a chance to take any pictures but I plan to take some this afternoon to post while I’m away.

Here was my list last week:

  • Celtic Solstice – Figure out what the next step is and get a game plan going so that the top is done by the end of the year. … done…
  • Provence – Work on the third round of the alternative blocks… I was able to finish 2 sides of the third round on the alternative blocks on. Not technically done but a bit of progress made.
  • New project! – I pulled a project out of my kit bin.  I need to get a project page started for this.  And get a project plan going. … done.  Check out the page here.  And my project plan is to work on these every Friday evening until Bonnie’s mystery quilt starts.  Since it starts Black Friday, I’ve got a couple of weeks I can spend on this project.

So this week, here’s my target:

I’m looking forward to a great week!

Have yourself a quilty little Christmas! 10/16/2016

Have yourself a quilty little Christmas!
10/16/2016

I know I posted this picture yesterday but it’s not every day I get the inner top of a quilt done.  Plus different days, different links and different people often come to check out the blog.  So if you saw this yesterday, just enjoy another picture.  If you haven’t seen it, enjoy the first glimpse.  I’m really happy with this quilt and how quickly it came together.  Next month we’ll be working on putting the scrappy border together and my goal is to get this FINISHED by the end of this year.  Finished in that it’s quilted, bound and labeled! 🙂  I’ve seen this quilt quilted with a double cross hatch and it is so cute.  It could work with a regular cross hatch or in the ditch or meander.  But I really enjoyed the double cross hatch so that’s where I’m leaning towards.  If I decide that that’s way too much work for me I’ll do a normal cross hatch instead.

Here was my list last week:

  • Missing Ivy – Finish the back, cut the batting, press the back and the top and schedule a time to rent the long arm with the Bernina dealer. …I finished the back and that’s about it.  On my Saturday post I decided to give myself some grace and not rush this project.  So, this will be on hold for a couple of weeks while I enjoy the rest of my birthday month.
  • Celtic Solstice – Get more block Bs done! …   done.  I’m almost done with Block B’s.  I think I’ve only got about 10 or so left to do so it would be nice to get this done this week so I can work on whatever the next step is next week.
  • Have Yourself a Quilty Little Christmas – Pick up this month’s kit.  I’m pretty certain I was wrong last week and I’ve still got one more month of blocks and the November kit is the border.  I’ll need to get a back for this quilt because I do not want to piece it and I’ve already got my eye on the backing. 🙂   I’ll get a back when the top is done.  I am still hoping I can get this done in December.  I’m pretty caught up and the top is put together as much as I could put it together so… As long as I don’t go crazy with the quilting, I’m confident this can still get done this year. … this month’s kit was picked up and finished!  See the glorious picture above.  All I can do now is wait until I get the next kit the second week of November.
  • Provence – Work on the first round of the alternative blocks.  I’m not sure how many rounds there are and this probably doesn’t make sense right now.  But my goal this week is to get through the first round, take pics and you’ll get what I’m talking about. … I didn’t get around to taking pics but the first round is done.  I would like to do the second round this week.
  • Spooky Halloween – this project fell by the wayside because the applique kind of bogged me down and I wasn’t seeing a lot of progress on it.  My goal this week is to finish applique’ing the last bat onto block 1 of row 2 and start on the embroidery. …I did nothing on this project.

So this week, here’s my target:

  • Celtic Solstice – Finish the rest of the block Bs!
  • Provence – Work on the second round of the alternative blocks.
  • Spooky Halloween – My goal this week is to finish applique’ing the last bat onto block 1 of row 2 and start on the embroidery.

I’m looking forward to a great week!

Missing Ivy Finished top! 10/10/16

Missing Ivy
Finished top!
10/10/16

The top is done!  I’ve been working on the back and bought a boatload of fabric to use.  Got it home, washed and ready to go when I decided to start with the fabric I had and just piece them together.  I’m about half way through getting the back done.  There’s no magic design in the back – just whatever pieces fit together with minimal cutting!  Hopefully it doesn’t end up looking like a hot mess but it’s the back so even if it does, I’m okay with that.

Here was my list last week:

  • Missing Ivy – Get the last 2 borders (#8 and 9) on. ….done
  • Celtic Solstice – Get more block Bs done! …   done
  • Have Yourself a Quilty Little Christmas – Finish up this month’s instructions.  All the blocks for this month are done but I can start piecing blocks together and continue cutting for the scrappy border.  I just realized that I haven’t posted pictures of Block 2 and Block 3 for this month.  I’ll get that in the upcoming posts for y’all. … done

So this week, here’s my target:

  • Missing Ivy – Finish the back, cut the batting, press the back and the top and schedule a time to rent the long arm with the Bernina dealer.

Missing Ivy Still need 2 more borders 10/3/2016

Missing Ivy
Still need 2 more borders
10/3/2016

Border #6 and #7 are on!  I had a real good chance to get 8 and 9 on too but ran out of the yellow/gold fabric.  As I said on Friday’s post, I ran out of this fabric.  Went to my not so fave LQS bought a yard of what I thought was the fabric.  Washed it and pressed it and when I got ready to cut realized that it was not the right fabric.  It was the same design but it was more gold than yellow.  So on Thursday I had to go back to my not so fave LQS.  This time I took a strip of the right fabric (which is what I should have done in the first place).  And this time I knew I only needed half a yard.  So it’s on now and this week my goal is to finish up the last 2 borders.

Here was my list last week:

  • Hampton Ridge – Continue to hand stitch the binding.  Finish the last side and get the label on.  This is my last week of September so no more excuses.  This needs to get done! … done!  woohoo!
  • Celtic Solstice – Get more block Bs done! …  done … not a whole lot of more but I did get more done.
  • Missing Ivy – Get the next 2 borders (#6 and 7) on. I would actually really love it if I could finish this top this week.  With the rate I’ve been going with these borders, it doesn’t look like that will happen but I will shoot for getting all remaining borders on this week. … done … At least borders #6 and 7 are done.  I still need 8 and 9 to finish the top.

So this week, here’s my target (I’m continuing to keep it short since I want to focus on Missing Ivy):

  • Missing Ivy – Get the last 2 borders (#8 and 9) on.
  • Celtic Solstice – Get more block Bs done! …

Maw-valous Monday!

Forget the housework!  I decided to have a crafty Sunday and didn’t do anything other than my creative outlets yesterday.  It was heavenly!  And a much needed break.

Missing Ivy 9/25/16

Missing Ivy
9/25/16

I got two sides up of the pieced border for Missing Ivy.  After I finish getting the top and bottom on I will still have 3 more borders to attach.  Almost done…. yay!

Here was my list last week:

  • Hampton Ridge – Continue to hand stitch the binding.  I am on my third side so I’m hoping that this will get done this week.  … I’m working on that 4th side.  Hopefully it gets done tonight while we’re watching Monday Night Football.
  • Celtic Solstice – Get more block Bs done! … I have about 10 blocks done and I’m still working on these as leaders/enders.  They’re kind of big for leaders/enders and I have to pin each piece but they’re getting done slowly and I’m loving that.
  • Missing Ivy – Get the next 2 borders (#5 and 6) on. The borders are already prepped.  I just need to measure, cut, pin, and sew! …I was able to get #5 on and 2 of the sides for #6.
  • Spooky Halloween … Row 2, block 1 – I’ve got the bat left and the embroidery.  It would be wonderful to be done with this block this week. …I didn’t touch this this week.
  • Have yourself a quilty little Christmas! – I picked up this month’s kit last Thursday and I wanted to jump on it this weekend.  I didn’t because I had a lot of stuff to do and the bit of crafty time I had I spent binding Hampton Ridge or prepping the borders of Missing Ivy. …I was able to get the first block done for this month’s kit.  It’s not high on my to do list but serves as a nice distraction when I need it.
  • Provence – press the blocks and figure out what’s the next step for this. …this continues to remain on my to do list and linger around not getting much love.  And it will need to stay that way for awhile.

So this week, here’s my target (really short this week):

  • Hampton Ridge – Continue to hand stitch the binding.  Finish the last side and get the label on.  This is my last week of September so no more excuses.  This needs to get done!
  • Celtic Solstice – Get more block Bs done! …

Maw-valous Monday!

Last week was tough.  The hubby started working a few weeks ago and I’m having a difficult time adjusting.  After more than 5 years of not having certain responsibilities, I suddenly am finding myself needing to do things like cooking, cleaning, picking up the kiddos from school… I could go on and on.  So my crafty time is being taken up with these things.  And the bit of time I am able to do anything – I’m using it to bind Hampton Ridge.  Not much to take pictures on!

img_2459

Here was my list last week:

  • Hampton Ridge – Hand stitch the binding. … I worked on this but it is still not done.
  • Celtic Solstice – Get more block Bs done! … I got a couple more blocks done. 🙂
  • Missing Ivy – Get the next 2 borders (#3 and 4) on. … done.. just barely as I finished this yesterday.  I need to press it and get a picture for you.
  • Provence – press the blocks and figure out what’s the next step for this. … not done …
  • Spooky Halloween … Row 2, block 1 – try a different method to appliqué the remaining leaves and bat. … I fused it, machine appliquéd it and didn’t like how it looked.  I am messing with the specs and I’m hoping that I will find a spec that I will like.

So this week, here’s my target:

  • Hampton Ridge – Continue to hand stitch the binding.  I am on my third side so I’m hoping that this will get done this week.
  • Celtic Solstice – Get more block Bs done!
  • Missing Ivy – Get the next 2 borders (#5 and 6) on. The borders are already prepped.  I just need to measure, cut, pin, and sew!

Spooky Halloween Row 2, Block 1 ...still in progress... but almost done 9/12/16

Spooky Halloween
Row 2, Block 1
…still in progress… but almost done
9/12/16

Here was my list last week:

  • Hampton Ridge – Buy fabric to bind this, and get it on the quilt! … done… I was able to get the fabric and machine bind it to the front.  Next step is to hand sew the binding to the back.  I’m seeing the finish line…
  • Celtic Solstice – continue to finish more rows of block b as my leaders/enders. …I’ve finally got all the rows done for Block B and now I’m working on getting the blocks all put together.  I was able to get 2 done last week!
  • Missing Ivy – Get the borders on… There are something like 9 borders for this quilt.  Do the first 2 this week. … done… I got 2 done and halfway through the 3rd border.
  • Provence – press the blocks and figure out what’s the next step for this. … nothing…
  • Spooky Halloween … Row 2, block 1 – try a different method to applique the remaining leaves and bat. … not done…

So this week, here’s my target:

  • Hampton Ridge – Hand stitch the binding.
