WIP Wednesday – 4/26/17

  Happy Wednesday!

A little late to the party today but I just finished… FINISHED… quilting Missing Ivy…

Missing Ivy
Finished top!
10/10/16

As always, I quilted the main body of it at my local sewing machine place – Baron’s in Woodland Hills, CA – on their Bernina long arm.  I finished that last month and since then it’s been waiting for me to get around to quilting the borders on my domestic.  Work consumed my life for the latter part of March and then quarterly tasks took over in April.  🙁  To be honest, I was also feeling the knitting bug and spent a lot of time playing with yarn.  I was able to get the quilt on my domestic Monday evening and now the borders are all quilted! yaass!

Missing Ivy Finished top! 10/10/16

Missing Ivy
Finished top!
10/10/16

The top is done!  I’ve been working on the back and bought a boatload of fabric to use.  Got it home, washed and ready to go when I decided to start with the fabric I had and just piece them together.  I’m about half way through getting the back done.  There’s no magic design in the back – just whatever pieces fit together with minimal cutting!  Hopefully it doesn’t end up looking like a hot mess but it’s the back so even if it does, I’m okay with that.

Here was my list last week:

  • Missing Ivy – Get the last 2 borders (#8 and 9) on. ….done
  • Celtic Solstice – Get more block Bs done! …   done
  • Have Yourself a Quilty Little Christmas – Finish up this month’s instructions.  All the blocks for this month are done but I can start piecing blocks together and continue cutting for the scrappy border.  I just realized that I haven’t posted pictures of Block 2 and Block 3 for this month.  I’ll get that in the upcoming posts for y’all. … done

So this week, here’s my target:

  • Missing Ivy – Finish the back, cut the batting, press the back and the top and schedule a time to rent the long arm with the Bernina dealer.
  • Celtic Solstice – Get more block Bs done! …
  • Have Yourself a Quilty Little Christmas – Pick up this month’s kit.  I’m pretty certain I was wrong last week and I’ve still got one more month of blocks and the November kit is the border.  I’ll need to get a back for this quilt because I do not want to piece it and I’ve already got my eye on the backing. 🙂   I’ll get a back when the top is done.  I am still hoping I can get this done in December.  I’m pretty caught up and the top is put together as much as I could put it together so… As long as I don’t go crazy with the quilting, I’m confident this can still get done this year.
  • Provence – Work on the first round of the alternative blocks.  I’m not sure how many rounds there are and this probably doesn’t make sense right now.  But my goal this week is to get through the first round, take pics and you’ll get what I’m talking about.
  • Spooky Halloween – this project fell by the wayside because the applique kind of bogged me down and I wasn’t seeing a lot of progress on it.  My goal this week is to finish applique’ing the last bat onto block 1 of row 2 and start on the embroidery.

I’m looking forward to a great week!

Missing Ivy Still need 2 more borders 10/3/2016

Missing Ivy
Still need 2 more borders
10/3/2016

Border #6 and #7 are on!  I had a real good chance to get 8 and 9 on too but ran out of the yellow/gold fabric.  As I said on Friday’s post, I ran out of this fabric.  Went to my not so fave LQS bought a yard of what I thought was the fabric.  Washed it and pressed it and when I got ready to cut realized that it was not the right fabric.  It was the same design but it was more gold than yellow.  So on Thursday I had to go back to my not so fave LQS.  This time I took a strip of the right fabric (which is what I should have done in the first place).  And this time I knew I only needed half a yard.  So it’s on now and this week my goal is to finish up the last 2 borders.

Here was my list last week:

  • Hampton Ridge – Continue to hand stitch the binding.  Finish the last side and get the label on.  This is my last week of September so no more excuses.  This needs to get done! … done!  woohoo!
  • Celtic Solstice – Get more block Bs done! …  done … not a whole lot of more but I did get more done.
  • Missing Ivy – Get the next 2 borders (#6 and 7) on. I would actually really love it if I could finish this top this week.  With the rate I’ve been going with these borders, it doesn’t look like that will happen but I will shoot for getting all remaining borders on this week. … done … At least borders #6 and 7 are done.  I still need 8 and 9 to finish the top.

So this week, here’s my target (I’m continuing to keep it short since I want to focus on Missing Ivy):

  • Missing Ivy – Get the last 2 borders (#8 and 9) on.
  • Celtic Solstice – Get more block Bs done! …

Maw-valous Monday!

Forget the housework!  I decided to have a crafty Sunday and didn’t do anything other than my creative outlets yesterday.  It was heavenly!  And a much needed break.

Missing Ivy 9/25/16

Missing Ivy
9/25/16

I got two sides up of the pieced border for Missing Ivy.  After I finish getting the top and bottom on I will still have 3 more borders to attach.  Almost done…. yay!

Here was my list last week:

  • Hampton Ridge – Continue to hand stitch the binding.  I am on my third side so I’m hoping that this will get done this week.  … I’m working on that 4th side.  Hopefully it gets done tonight while we’re watching Monday Night Football.
  • Celtic Solstice – Get more block Bs done! … I have about 10 blocks done and I’m still working on these as leaders/enders.  They’re kind of big for leaders/enders and I have to pin each piece but they’re getting done slowly and I’m loving that.
  • Missing Ivy – Get the next 2 borders (#5 and 6) on. The borders are already prepped.  I just need to measure, cut, pin, and sew! …I was able to get #5 on and 2 of the sides for #6.
  • Spooky Halloween … Row 2, block 1 – I’ve got the bat left and the embroidery.  It would be wonderful to be done with this block this week. …I didn’t touch this this week.
  • Have yourself a quilty little Christmas! – I picked up this month’s kit last Thursday and I wanted to jump on it this weekend.  I didn’t because I had a lot of stuff to do and the bit of crafty time I had I spent binding Hampton Ridge or prepping the borders of Missing Ivy. …I was able to get the first block done for this month’s kit.  It’s not high on my to do list but serves as a nice distraction when I need it.
  • Provence – press the blocks and figure out what’s the next step for this. …this continues to remain on my to do list and linger around not getting much love.  And it will need to stay that way for awhile.

So this week, here’s my target (really short this week):

  • Hampton Ridge – Continue to hand stitch the binding.  Finish the last side and get the label on.  This is my last week of September so no more excuses.  This needs to get done!
  • Celtic Solstice – Get more block Bs done! …
  • Missing Ivy – Get the next 2 borders (#6 and 7) on. I would actually really love it if I could finish this top this week.  With the rate I’ve been going with these borders, it doesn’t look like that will happen but I will shoot for getting all remaining borders on this week.

I’m looking forward to a great week!

Stash Report – Week 39, 2016

Nothing Added. Nothing Used.  I’m still working on binding Hampton Ridge.  It really is almost done.  I’ve got one side left to do.  I’m hoping that gets done today or tomorrow.  Since it’s football season there’s a good chance I’ll be sitting on the couch and possibly get it done.  So again, no great pictures.

I volunteered for the quilt room tour put on by my guild so I wasn’t able to drive around to see all the studios.  I could have.  I had mapped out everything and was planning on going in the morning before the time I was supposed to volunteer.  But I couldn’t get myself out of the house to drive in 90 degree weather.  Not sure why – I’ve done it for the quilt run.  Actually I know why.  I was mentally exhausted by the week before and I wanted to take some time futzing around the house somewhat by myself.  The boys were out of the house and the girl was catching up on some sleep.  I think I needed that time.  After hanging out, I worked “security” at one of the homes.  And that was fun.  Unfortunately, I didn’t take pictures.  I’m pretty sure I could have but I wasn’t sure about whether I could post it on the interwebs and didn’t ask.  It would have probably been fine.

Fabric Tuesday, 9/13/16

Happy Tuesday!

Missing Ivy Border #3 is on.... 6 more left... 9/13/16

Missing Ivy
Border #3 is on….
6 more left…
9/13/16

I normally like to cut my borders on the lengthwise grain because then it is not as stretchy as the crosswise grain. But I didn’t do it in this case.  I was running out of fabric so I cut the best I could to fit the fabric. fabric_grain_drawing

When I did the yellow (border #1) and white (border #2) borders, I forgot to measure along the center of the quilt.  Instead I measured the edge.  Now I’ve got a bit of ruffling and it won’t lay flat.  By the time I got to the blue (border #3), I remembered and I had to do a lot of pinning.  I am hoping it fixes itself as I finish up the remaining 6 borders and whatever is left quilts out.  It’s probably a fool’s wish but I’m not ripping out.  I’m just going to live with whatever happens. 🙂

Stash Report – Week 37, 2016

I found the gold I needed from my not so fave LQS for Missing Ivy… so I’ll need to add it to my stash.  To be clear, I found fabric that will work.  It’s not exactly the fabric I was using but it works as a border.  Thank goodness it was only a yard!

And I went to my fave LQS for their Labor Day sale – see the fabrics here.  That was another 6.75 yards!  I’m in the middle of binding Hampton Ridge so once that is finished my numbers will look a lot better.  With all this adding, I don’t think it will put me in the black but I will be a lot closer. 🙂

For the fabric stash:

  • Used this week: 0 yards
  • Used year to date:  51 yards
  • Added this week: 7.75 yards
  • Added year to Date: 82.375 yards
  • Net ADDED for 2016: 31.375 yards

So the purchases will add to what I spent this week as well as payment for my September BOMs with my LQS.  I get a lot of comments about me documenting my spending.  For some people it seems high.  For others, they are probably in the same boat but don’t want to know.  Ignorance is bliss.  For myself, I consider it fascinating.  And to be honest, if I didn’t document it, I would probably spend more.  In the end, I consider it my quilting duty to support my LQS as much as I feasibly can.  🙂  That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!  At least, as long as I have space for it.  Which at this moment in time, I don’t!

For the Budget:

Spent this week: $173.82

Spent year to date: $4,262.35

For the yarn stash:

Still haven’t finished my socks yet. 🙂 But I did touch it this past week and knitted one round!  🙂

Used this week: 0 yards

Used year to date: 300 yards

Added this week: 0 yards

Added year to date: 1248 yards

Net Added for 2016: 948 yards

And for Slow Stitching Sunday with Kathy at Kathy Quilts, I plan to continue my work on A Rainbow Garden!  Here’s what it looked like last week:

A Rainbow Garden Block 6 ...in progress... 8/28/16

Here is how it looks now:

A Rainbow Garden Block 6 ...in progress... 9/4/16

A Rainbow Garden

…in progress…
9/4/16

I think I’m in a slump or maybe it’s because I want to do something else… I don’t know but either way I didn’t get much progress done last week.  All I got was the second inner circle on one flower.  Hopefully I get more done today.

Until next time…
