I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!  Ours was small but we had Turkey, family, and friends so it was nothing to complain about! 🙂

Today I am not braving the malls.  I am trying to get myself motivated to go to yoga in a bit.  I’m still in a food coma from all the goodies I ate yesterday so it’s REALLY hard for me.  I also really don’t want to drive in any traffic!  … can you sense that I’m trying to talk myself into not going! ;0  I really need to go… My goal this year is to go 3x a week.

And in addition to yoga, I want to get a couple of hours of study time.  I need to set a goal for this too.  I noticed that if I try to do the whole year, it’s too much and overwhelming.  So I need to think and decide what my next step is and the timeframe I want to complete that next step.

Then it’s all play time.  I’ve still got Tell It To The Stars on the frame and I’m about half way through quilting the background.  I need to get through this quickly if I want to have it bound and washed to give away for Christmas.  And I have a feeling I may need it done sooner to give it to the person before hand.  If it isn’t done, I’ll just have to set it aside for another time.  I hate rushing and my quilting needs a lot of work.

The other thing I want to do today is check out the first step for Bonnie Hunter’s mystery quilt.  I’ll play along but I’m not going to spend too much time on it.  Like I said in past posts, I like the community and I want to play but not enough to actually put all the fabric I will need into it.  I’ll just cut a few strips to do the first step and that’s it.

The next thing on my list is to cut more fabric for Scrapitude 2016.  I pulled the lights out of my stash and now I’ve got to go through and separate them by light and very light and start cutting. 🙂  I truly do not want to do this but I’m forcing myself to.  I ENJOYED Scrapitude last year and the best part was sewing all the pre-cut pieces together.  I want to recreate the experience for this quilt-a-long.  It means I’ll have to work more now and I’m okay with that.

Next is Raining Cats and Dogs and I don’t know what else.  I will be knitting later during the game.  I finished step #7 of Missing Ivy yesterday and I don’t want to go to the next step right now.  I can also cross stitch if I’ve got the urge.  I think that’s enough for today.  If I still want to do more, I’ll have to figure it out if I’ve got time. 🙂

I’m so thankful for having the next few days to just do what I want to do – play with fabric!

Happy quilting friends… time to go to yoga! ;0

I’ve been cheating on quilting!  For some reason, earlier this week I had the urge to take out my old cross stitch project.

IMG_8765

And I worked a bit on it until my life took over and no craftiness was done at all.  By old, I started working on this project before my daughter was born.  If you want a date – March 1999.  I know because it was when my Grandmother passed away and my family and cousins trekked it over to the Philippines to send her off.  It was a wonderful trip with the family even if it was for sad reasons.  My Grandmother was the sewist in the family.  She worked for Northface in the 70’s and that’s how she got the industrial Juki that I inherited.  She and I used to hang out in our sunroom.  She would sew stuff (curtains, clothes, pillowcases, our hula outfits) while I did homework, or watched TV, etc.  She actually showed me how to use the sewing machine and I tried to make doll clothes and other stuff.  Anyway, before she passed away she came back to visit and she was cross stitching.  She started me on the cross stitching phase.  I did most of the work on this project the first couple of years and then I put it away and I do not remember the last time I touched it.  But right now this is what it catching my fancy and I’ve been making slow progress on it.

I haven’t touched Razzle at all since this weekend when I discovered the issue with the new fabric and laid out the top as I’d like it to eventually be.  It’s sitting by my sewing machine waiting for me to play with it.  I’m still mad at the whole fabric thing so every time I look at it I get a little irritated.  I know! I shouldn’t take it out on the top because it isn’t its fault.  ;0  I plan to work on it this weekend at the Sew In tomorrow.

In the meantime, happy Friday everyone!  Tonight I’ll be watching a play at the girls school and I’m sick.  I feel a little better than yesterday but after last night’s lost (Clipper v. Warrior game), I’m under the weather! ;0

I’m still working on Celtic Solstice! 🙂  This is the week.

I got a little further … I’m working on the first row attaching the third 4-patch to the rest of the row.  But I’m just plugging away.  I know!  Nothing sexy like a finish.  But, it is what it is.  Hopefully I’m inspiring you to plug away at those projects that you’d rather toss in the UFO pile.  🙂

Here’s an update on my progress on getting the borders on for Hampton Ridge.  I’m working on Border #2!

IMG_8596Step #1 – Cut the fabric.  Like I did with border #1, I cut the border parallel to the selvage to minimize waviness.  The first two I cut I wasn’t paying attention to the print and it wasn’t until the third strip that I wanted the border to be above.  I had enough fabric to do a total of three strips with that exact cut.  I need four strips.  So, I’ve got a trip to the LQS to do.  I do not know if I’ll have time to do three of the four sides before the week is done so I’ll plan to have the fabric in time for my next round with Hampton Ridge.

IMG_8597

Step #2 – Press the center of the top of the first side I will piece the first border on.  Normally I do a finger press.  But I was having a hard time matching the center of the border with the center of the top that I ended up pressing it with an iron.

IMG_8598

Step #3 – Press the center of the border.  For the top, notice I pressed the like sides together and for the border I pressed the wrong sides together.  This way when I match them up, they will be like sides together and the press is in the same direction.  If I forget to do this, it’s okay but I find it’s easier to match up when it is like this.

IMG_8599

Step #4 – Pin the centers together and pin the whole border.

IMG_8601

Step #5 – sew!

IMG_8602

Step #6 – Press it out.  For mitered borders, you want there to be excess fabric hanging off both ends of the top.  Those will be matched up with the other borders once you’ve got all 4 sides done.

Step #7 – repeat for all 4 side.  Once all 4 sides are done, it’s time to miter!

I haven’t had much time to do anything else this week. I am happy with the bit I was able to get done.  This weekend I plan to applique more of the stem on Raining Cats and Dogs, get the 2 other sides of border #2 on Hampton Ridge, finish my practice quilting on Bailey and load Tell It To The Stars onto the frame.

I’ve been working on Missing Ivy  and have gotten further along on this project.

I organized all the pieces and I really only have 1 seam to get those rows finished for the blocks.  I’ve been pressing at each point so that they are all nice and pressed once the rows are done.

I’ve got the first row chain pieced still attached waiting for more.  The second row is on the ironing table waiting for me to press it and then piece it.

It’s coming together nicely, I’m just not spending the time working on it.  Instead I’m working, 🙁  and I unpacked a box at the bar.  I originally thought that all the boxes at the bar contained our wine glasses and bar stuff.  And since this particular bar doesn’t have shelves or anything behind the bar to put the bar stuff away, we’ve kept them in boxes.  However, I found a box with some mugs and figurines wrapped up in fabric!  So I unearthed another box of fabric!  🙂  It’s like reuniting with long lost friends again.  And finally I did work on a bit in the garage.  This weekend I plan to applique more of the stem on Raining Cats and Dogs, get the 9 blocks for Step 6 finished for Missing Ivy, and practice quilting on Bailey.

10/8/2015

I basically used the same pictures from last Friday because I’m pretty much at the same point.  Just a little more of the completed pieces but still not done.  Closer, though, and I took a peek at Step 6.  I’m not sure I’ll jump on it right away as I’m pretty tired of Celtic Solstice.

I would like to spend some time hand appliqueing Raining Cats and Dogs, maybe get the back done for Moon Glow, and maybe even get the borders on for Hampton Ridge.  We’ll see.  I’ve got a sew in on Saturday for the Valley MQG at my LQS so a lot of sewing time planned for Saturday!

I’m sure you are all bored with my little day to day progress on Celtic Solstice!  I’m sorry – I really want to jump to something else too just so I have something different to write about and something different to show you.  But I’m afraid if I do that it will be another long time before I get back to this again.  So here’s another Friday post … I’m continuing to piece the blue HST to the orange/yellow/white HST.

I’m almost half way done!  Thank goodness its Friday!  I do have work to do this weekend but I’ll be working at my own pace and can sprinkle some quilty goodness between work stuff.

My Cutting Station 9/16/2015

My Cutting Station
9/16/2015

I’m still cutting for Celtic Solstice.  244 pairs of those little white triangles takes a long time!  The cutting table is not nearly as nice as it was in the picture above but I’m powering through.  I probably have about half left to do and then I’ve got to cut 244 blue HSTs.  It looks like I’ll be here for a while.

Work will be picking up as another project came upon me and October is just around the corner.  Not sure if I’ll be able to post as often I’ve been able to these last few weeks as I’ll have very little time to quilt. 🙁  I may just force myself as it helps keep my stress level low.

Moon Glow with 2 borders on 9/11/2015

Moon Glow
with 2 borders on
9/11/2015

Despite being laid up this week I was able to get 2 borders on.  The plan is to get the last 2 borders on this weekend.   And hopefully I’ll be able to miter the corners and have the quilt top finished!

Moon Glow Strewn about on the floor 9/11/2015

Strewn about on the floor

Afterwards, I’ll set it aside and work on Raining Cats and Dogs!  I’m not sure if I’ll take Moon Glow out again or if I’ll work on something else but here is the next few steps left for Moon Glow:

  1. Measure the top
  2. Determine how much backing I need and measure the backing fabric I have to see if it is enough.
  3. Embroider the label
  4. Piece the back
  5. Set the top and back aside for quilting. It is now the third quilt ready for quilting. :0
  6. Clear up the bits and pieces of leftover fabric and put it in the various scrap bins I’ve set up for my new scrap system.

If I’ve got time, the next project on my list is Hampton Ridge. So far, I’m being a monogamous quilter; working on one project at a time.  Part of it has to do with my space.  The other part has to do with the part of the project I’m working on.  I was on the border part for Moon Glow.  I had to finish that step before I moved on to another project.  I’m sure when I get to piecing things again, I’ll be able to work on a different project every weekend. 🙂  If I remember correctly (and I might be wrong) I’ve got the rows pieced for Hampton Ridge.  I need to piece the rows together to finish the inner top and then get the border on.  And then get the back together for it.  Then this will be 4th in line for quilting.  ;0
