2017 Crafty Plan – October

I was away for a few days the last weekend of September so these posts came a few days late.  If I had my crap together I would have had these all prepared before I left but I didn’t and I completely forgot about it.  To be honest, I’m entering another busy month (as they always are for the 1st month of the quarter) and I just did what I had to do for work and then turned everything off. We ventured off to Solvang, CA for a few days and had some fun exploring the Danish environment and the surrounding areas.  We enjoyed ourselves and got to relax a bit.  These next few weeks will be a bit crazy so I’m going to try to make sure I get some sleep, eat right, yoga and get some craftiness in to keep me sane.  I am not sure I’ll be able to post much this month.  Just wanted to let ya’ll know if you wonder where I’ve gone. Even though I know I’ve got a lot to do on the work end, I’m still going to put some things on my to do list this month.  In the past, I divided up each group of projects into categories: quilting, knitting, cross stitch, sewing.  Rather than do that this time, I’m just going to list each project I want to work on and what I want to get done with it this month.

  1. Kimono (my first knitted sweater) – This is almost done. I need to bind it off, weave in the ends, and block it.
  2. Starting Point Wrap – My goal last month was to finish clue #2.  I did it and got started on clue #3.  My goal for this month is to finish Clue #3 for both parts of the shawl.  For those who do not know this project, you knit 2 halves of a triangle and later put them together.  So I have to do Clue #3 twice.  It’s great having this goal because in order for me to do this, I need to knit 4 rows per day to accomplish this.  That’s a lot of knitting for me since each row is 171 stitches but I want to get this done before Christmas.  My goal is to get Clue #3 done in October, Clue #4 in November and Clue #5 in December (in time for me to wrap it and gift it on Christmas).  So I’m knitting 4 rows per day.  I was able to start on Clue #3 the last week in September so it’s really 3.5 rows per day and if I do 4 rows per day, I can afford to miss a handful of days to give myself a break.
  3. Secret Project #1 – Take a picture of this so that I can post about it after I’ve gifted it.
  4. Secret Project #2 – The top is done and I have the fabric picked out for the backing. I would like to to piece the back, and quilt this this month.   That might be pushing things but I’d like to get this half quilted this month since it’s a busy month and then next month, finish up the quilting and bind it.
  5. A Rainbow Garden – continue to work on block 8.  I’m going to try to work on this but I will not be able to work on it weekly.
  6. Mama’s Bukid – Finish page 1 and start page 5. I know that sounds weird but page 5 is under page 1 and I want to work from left to right.  So I want to start on page 5.
  7. Kayla’s Weasley Sweater – knit 2 rows every day. My goal is to have this done for Christmas so she can wear it but I’m not going to bust my butt to do that.  I’ve got my must haves for Christmas and this one is not one of those.

2017 Crafty Plan – September Update –

I know this update is a few days late but I wanted to keep myself accountable and let you all know what I’ve accomplished on my goal list for September.

  1. Quilting
    1. Secret project #1 – I need to bind this.  I was planning on hand binding this project but decided to just machine bind the back too.  It will make for an interesting front but I’m hoping to do something different.  I’m hoping it looks cool rather than janky. – DONE!
    2. Secret project #2 – Once the first one is bound, I want to get started on the second one.  I need to pull the project out and figure out what needs to be done.  I think the top is done and all I need to do is quilt it but I can’t remember. – THE TOP IS DONE AND I HAVE PULLED THE FABRIC FOR THE BACK. I NEED TO PIECE THEM TOGETHER AND THEN QUILT THE PROJECT.
    3. Raining Cats and Dogs – hand quilt weekly.  My specific goal for September is to finish quilting the third row of the cream quilting thread.  To be honest, it’s been really hot here lately and our air condition is on the fritz.  So – don’t be surprised if this fall by the wayside. – NOT DONE
    4. A Rainbow Garden – block 8 weekly.  This goal is working for me so I don’t need to make anything specific for this one. – I DID WORK ON THIS BUT I DIDN’T GET TO IT EACH WEEK.
    5. Civil War Diary Quilt – Right before I went on our family vacation in June I was pretty good about working on this regularly.  I didn’t do a block a week but I was working on it.  I haven’t touched it since we’ve been back and it’s been months.  I want to have one block done for this month. – NOT DONE.
  2. Knitting
    1. Continue knitting on my sweater “Kimono” – I want the left sleeve to be done.  And if I am fast it would be great to get the collar done as well.  However, just the left sleeve is fine and dandy. – DONE. I’M ACTUALLY READY TO BIND THIS OFF AND BLOCK IT.  JUST IN TIME FOR WINTER!
    2. Starting Point shawl – I want Clue #2 for the second half done this month. – DONE
    3. Knitting Expat’s September socks – DONE
  3. Cross Stitch
    1. Mama’s Bukid – Row 12 – DONE.
  4. Bag Making
    1. Maxwell Bag – get the handles covered.  Find out the next steps from the instructor and finish it up.  I believe this bag is practically done so the next few steps are probably pretty quick. – HALF DONE. I HAVE ONE HANDLE DONE AND I’M HALFWAY THROUGH THE SECOND HANDLE.
    2. Finish the Nesting Basket I started in the August bag class. – NOT DONE.
    3. Do the September bag class – this class has not yet been scheduled so I need to check the website regularly until it is.  Hopefully it falls on a day that I can make it. – DONE.
  5. Clothes Making
    1. LAFS  – finish my pajama pants – NOT DONE

Monday makings and to do’s, 10/2!

Last’s week’s tasks and accomplishments:

  • quilting
    • Secret Project #2 – The top is done, I need to piece the back this week. – NOT DONE
    • A Rainbow Garden – Work on this for Slow Stitch Sunday – NOT DONE
  • Knitting
    • Kimono sweater – I have about 2 inches knitted for the collar.  The pattern says it should be about 7 inches.  The lady at my LYS (Local Yarn Shop) said at a minimum it should be 4 inches.  It seems that people generally get tired of this project and settle for somewhere between 4-7 inches.  I’ve figured out that it takes about 3 days to do 1 inch if I knit 2 rows every day.  So I should be at 2 inches every week going at the pace I was at last week.  If I’m okay with a 4″ collar I might be done this week.  If I want it longer, it can be another 3 weeks before I’m done.  I’ve already started on Kayla’s Weasley sweater but I haven’t gotten that much progress on it.  I may add it to my daily set of craftiness in order to get some it going but it will have to be the last thing on my daily crafty to do list so I can be sure to get everything done. – KIMONO IS DONE
    • Starting Point Shawl – continue to knit 2 rows per day.  I think I’ve only got a day or two and clue 2 will be done.  I will be starting clue 3 this week and I need to create a project plan so that I can work towards having clue 3 finished by 10/31 for both halves. – CLUE 2 IS DONE AND I GOT STARTED ON CLUE 3
    • Q Train Socks – Finish the toes! Then I need to take a picture, post it here and on ravelry! – DONE
  • Cross Stitch
    • Mama’s Bukid – finish Row 13! – DONE

My List for next week:

  • Secret Project #1 – take a picture
  • Secret Project #2 – piece the back
  • A Rainbow Garden – take to my mini group meeting and work on block 8
  • Kimono – weave in the ends and bind off
  • Starting point Shawl – continue to knit 4 rows per day.
  • Harry Potter – knit 2 rows per day
  • Mama’s Bukid – finish Row 14 (and page 1)!
  • Socks from my Secret Mandala sock blank – finish the heel, turn the heel, pick up the stitches on this and the St. Patty’s socks and start the foot.

Monday makings and to do’s, 9/25!

I’ve been knitting a lot and I’m not very good at take pictures.  It always just looks like a mess to me and so I don’t.

Last’s week’s tasks and accomplishments:

  • quilting
    • Secret Project #1 – Hand stitch the label and wash the quilt. – DONE
    • A Rainbow Garden – Work on this for Slow Stitch Sunday – DONE
  • Knitting
    • Kimono sweater – I want this sweater done so I can start working on my Weasley Sweater for Kayla.  But I do not know if I can do more than 1-2 rows per day on the collar.  I think for this week, my goal is to do 1-2 rows per day and to measure how long it takes to do 1 row.  Then next week I’ll be able to figure out how long it will take me to finish 4-7 inches and if that works with my internal goal.  I want the Weasley Sweater done for Christmas so that determines my timeline for the Kimono sweater. — DONE, THERE WAS ONLY 1 DAY I DIDN’T WORK ON THIS SWEATER LAST WEEK AND THAT WAS A VERY BUSY DAY.
    • Starting Point Shawl – knit 2 rows per day – DONE!  I’M ALMOST DONE WITH CLUE 2 FOR BOTH PIECES.
    • Q Train Socks – These socks are for Kayla and she likes a slightly longer foot than me.  Her feet are a smidge bigger.  So I normally knit about 44 rounds on the foot for me and I decided to work towards 48 rounds.  At which point, I’ll have her try it on to see if she likes it or not.  I’ve worked it out that I want to do 4 sets of a 2 round patter (8 rounds) per day.  It’s going to be difficult because I timed it over the weekend and it takes me about an hour to do all of that.  I’m planning to do a set in the morning, a set during my morning break, a set during my afternoon break, and a set in the evening.  I hope to get the foot done this week and then get the toes done next week. – DONE!  SHE’S TRIED THEM ON AND I’M READY TO WORK ON THE TOES
  • Cross Stitch
    • Mama’s Bukid – finish 2 colorways this week in Row 13.  Since I finished Row 12 last week, any additional work is now gravy for this month.  I worked it out and there are 8 colorways in Row 13.  I’m actually enjoying cross stitching right now and I work on it about 2-3 times per week.  I hope to keep at it as I have Row 13, Row 14 and then just a bit into Row 15 left to finish the first page. – DONE – I’VE GOT 2 COLORWAYS LEFT ON ROW 13!

My List for next week:

  • quilting
    • Secret Project #2 – The top is done, I need to piece the back this week.
    • A Rainbow Garden – Work on this for Slow Stitch Sunday

Monday makings and to do’s, 9/18!

I was supposed to take another class on Saturday and to be honest, I’m tired of classes.  I enjoy taking classes but I think 3 back to back was just too much.  I’ll have to keep that in mind next time. But the class this past Saturday was cancelled so I was able to take an unplanned break.  I played with my embroidery machine and made a couple of labels for some secret projects I’m working on.

And on to my crafty plans this week…

Last’s week’s tasks and accomplishments:

  1. quilting
    • Secret Project #1 – Label and wash this – HALF DONE… THE LABEL IS READY. I NEED TO HAND STITCH IT ON TO THE BACK OF THE QUILT.
    • Embroidery machine – play with the machine while it is out. – DONE
    • A Rainbow Garden – Work on this for Slow Stitch Sunday – NOT DONE
    • Raining Cats and Dogs – Hand quilt this. My goal for the month is to do all of the cream quilting for the third row. – NOT DONE
    • Civil War Diary Quilt – do one block – NOT DONE
  2. Knitting
    • Kimono sweater – Finish garter of the left sleeve – DONE. I actually seamed the sleeve and side of the sweater. I’m not actually sure if “seamed” is the right word but they are attached and I’m not working on the garter stitches of the collar.  I need 4-7″ of this and I’m not sure how long this will take.  I’ve got almost 200 stitches on the needles at this point and it takes forever to just do one row!
    • Starting Point Shawl – knit 2 rows per day – DONE
    • Q Train Socks – finish the leg and start the heel – DONE
  3. Cross Stitch
    • Mama’s Bukid – finish 2 colorways this week in Row 12. – DONE. I ACTUALLY FINISHED THE WHOLE ROW!
  4. Bag Making
    • Maxwell Bag – finish covering the second handles – NOT DONE
  5. LAFS
    • Pajama Pants – NOT DONE

My List for next week:

I’ve shortened my list this week as I’m focusing my bit of crafty time on my secret projects, my 3 knitting projects listed below and my cross stitch.

  • quilting
    • Secret Project #1 – Hand stitch the label and wash the quilt.
    • A Rainbow Garden – Work on this for Slow Stitch Sunday
    • Starting Point Shawl – knit 2 rows per day
    • Q Train Socks – These socks are for Kayla and she likes a slightly longer foot than me.
