Retreat – Day One

So retreat lite at my guild is not a full retreat.  It’s three days of dedicated sewing at a local hotel.  If we want to, we can get a room there and make it a full retreat.  But you can also just stay home and drive to and from each time.  Unlike last time, I opted to stay home.  What resulted was that for Day One I didn’t get as much sewing done.  Between having to deal with work stuff and having to come home and do family stuff, it was a day of interruption and driving around.  While I was there, though, I had a great time.

I did manage to finish Hampton Ridge Block 3 and I’ll take a picture and post it later.  And I finished Step 1 of Missing Ivy.  I thought when I finished sewing and cutting the half square triangles (HST) I was done and when I was cutting for Step 2 realized that I didn’t trim down my first set of HSTs.  So I had to stop and trim down 72 HSTs to 3-1/2″.  It was not fun.  By the time I was done it was about 11pm and I was ready to go home.  But I wanted to be done with cutting for Step 2 so I could just sew today.  I did, I cut more 3-1/2″ squares of various fabrics and tomorrow I’ll be sewing them together to make more HSTs.  I used my BlocLoc ruler for the first time.  I purchased it at PIQF for an insane amount of money.  I think it’s the 6″ one and at the time I was debating if I should get the set.  I can’t remember the cost of it but it was insane so I chose to get just 1 and figured I could do smaller squares if I wanted to.  I LOVE the ruler!  Absolutely!  The only thing is that I should have gotten the set instead of just the one.  I hated having to move the HST around and the ruler to get it to the right measurement.  I’m putting the sets of the rulers in my wish list and hope that someone will put it under the Christmas Tree for me. 🙂

By the end of the evening I was able to cut all the fabric I need for Step 2 and today I’m ready to sew.

Happy Quilting!

Ready for Retreat!!!

Bags packed for retreat!

Bags packed for retreat!

Retreat is tomorrow and I’m ready to go!  I’ve got my bags packed and Friday morning is just a few hours away.  I know it seems early but tonight is my turn at chauffeuring the girl to Cheer practice.  That means I’m not home until almost 11pm!  So, I packed up my sewing machine and all my supplies and projects last night.   The husband will drive me to the hotel tomorrow morning.  It’s retreat lite so I’m not staying at the hotel but going back and forth from home each day.  It’s not too far (maybe 10 minutes) – so it’s not a big deal.  It’s my momma’s birthday tomorrow so the weekend will not be entirely spent at the retreat.

I brought a number of projects with me – Hampton Ridge Blocks 3 and 4, Missing Ivy and if those two do not get me out of my Sew Slump – I packed in the corduroy kit from PIQF.  I’ve been excited about that for a long time but I’m hesitant to start a new project.  I do not want another UFO to add to my list.  But my sew slump is driving me crazy and I need to move past it.  And if another UFO will help me do that – then sew be it. 🙂

I finally have a REAL design wall!

Design Wall & BOM Away Monday

First, I’m linking to both Design Wall Monday and BOM Away Monday.  My design wall includes the finished Block 2 of the Hampton Ridge BOM that I finished early last week.

But what I’m really happy and excited about are the wonderful changes my daddy made to my sewing room/office.

The wall is up!

The wall is up!

I brought this with me from Los Angeles but I didn’t think I had the room for it.  I really do not but this room has french doors and what you do not see is that the left side of the “wall” covers the right door.  I originally didn’t want to cover it.  But I wasn’t using the door but once in a while when I needed to move things in and out.  With the design wall, I can always remove it when I want to open the right door.

And that’s not the only thing my daddy put up!  He slapped some nails down and now I have a couple of places to hang my rulers.

I’ve still got the cork board I made a few months ago.  I just moved it to the right side of my desk.  You can’t tell in the picture as it just looks like every other picture I’ve taken of it.  But trust me, it’s on the right and it was moved. 🙂

And the cork board was moved to a different space. My lucky star BOM is still unfinished there.

The Lucky Star BOM is still unfinished as I wasn’t able to get much sewing done yesterday.

Block 1 Completed

I’ve got an unfinished block from Lucky Star BOM (January 2013) up there as well.  I’m working on that one a bit at a time it seems.  By the time I get to that block I’m at the end of my quilty time and I have just enough steam left to just do one of the parts.  I have a few more days to finish it before the end of the month so there’s no rush.  Really there is no rush at all.  It’s not like I need to have anything done by a certain time.  No one needs any of the quilts I make as soon as possible.  Obviously that’s different if I’m making a gift that has a deadline.  Which I haven’t done yet so no worries there.  Some times in the ever need to finish something to add to my blog or reduce my stash I feel a rush to get things done.  Or maybe it’s just the day and age where faster is better.  I have to remind myself to slow down and enjoy the process.  I’ll get done what I can but I want to make quality work, learn as I go and experience the pleasure of quilting – whether it is the sound of my sewing machine or the comfort of hand work.
