Happy Wednesday!
Not much has been done since break. I got a bit of knitting done and a bit of cross stitch done during the basketball game Monday night. Last night, I was able to get the final side of border #2 on Hampton Ridge. First I fussy cut the final side. I made sure to read the measurements again. I didn’t want to make any mistakes.
The next step is to miter those corners, then I can get Border #3 on. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get to this until Sunday. I’ve got a bunch of evening activities these next few nights and I will need to have my full attention when I go in to actually miter. I will try to get those strips to line up properly but we’ll see how it goes.

Happy Wednesday!
I was able to get a lot of little stuff done the last few days.
I need to make 20 pieces and I’ve got 1 done. 🙂 Actually I have the right sides all pieced and I just need to do the left sides. And then I’ll press and trim. I’ll be doing the left sides tomorrow and working on pressing and trimming over #BFSI (Black Friday Sew In).
I’m continuing to have the Cross Stitch bug and filled in more of the pink rose. You can’t tell in the picture but the gold welcome sign has bits of metallic gold to help it shine. This piece is very dated but that is probably one of the reasons why I remember my grandma when I stitch on it.
And finally I’ve been knitting. I generally knit during basketball games so this project has been going by quicker than usual. It’s almost done and I hope I’ll be ready to finish it off by the end of tomorrow night’s game.
I was able to quilt Tell It To The Stars for a bit but I had to stop when the game started. Hopefully I’ll be able to get more done during the Thanksgiving holidays. Between all my current projects, this is the only one that needs to be done by Christmas so I really should prioritize getting this done. ;0

I’m continuing my work on the block for Celtic Solstice:
If you know Bonnie Hunter, you know there are a lot of these that I have to make. I’m working on piecing the first two squares of the third row. The plan is to get these done today and move back to the first row to piece that third square on to the first two squares. It’s very slow progress since I haven’t spent a ton of time in front of the sewing machine. But progress is progress and every little piece put together is one more piece towards completion! 🙂

I’m working on getting the borders on Hampton Ridge and here’s where I’m at currently:
Border #1 is on! If you caught my post on Monday I asked if you combined strips straight across or diagonally. It’s amazing how different techniques accomplish the same thing. I chose to combine my strips diagonally as that is what I’ve always done and didn’t see any reason to change now. Once my strips were combined into 1 long strip, I pinned it to the first side.
Pinning is very important. It helps keep everything straight. It helps keep everything feeding into the machine at the same consistency. I didn’t always do this. Learning new techniques is a constant thing for me and I’m always on the look out for ways to do something better or more efficient. 🙂
And in the process of pinning I was also trimming dog ears. I caught my finger at the same time! 🙁 My learning lesson to go slowly even when I want to snip snip snip quickly!
I press before I trim, before I pin and after I piece the border on!
Now on to Border #2!

I’m working on Missing Ivy and here’s where I’m at currently:
Organized Chaos! This is the extent of my organization. I can make to do lists and plans and calendar events – but after I chain piece and snip the threads they’re just all over the place. I’ll be reorganizing them again.
While I was pressing the white fabric so I can cut 9 more 3.5″ squares I was thinking about starch. I couldn’t remember if I had starched the other fabric. I know there was a blimp in time where I came across a tip to starch the fabric while pressing so that when I cut, the fabric is a little stiff. It also helps with keeping HSTs as accurate as possible. So I may have starched these. I can’t remember. I stopped starching when I read on Bonnie Hunter’s site where she received fabric from somewhere (I think it was a half done project) and when she started using them they fell apart. She attributed this to the starch in the fabric. So what to do? I should starch if I’m going to start and finish a project. But knowing me, you never really know if I will finish the project I start. I’m trying to be better about it now. So I guess only time will tell. But I am still wondering if I starched these fabrics. It’s been about 2 years since I last worked on this project and the fabric is still going strong. I would think it would take a lot more years for it to start falling apart.
It’s interesting how the way we do things changes with time as we learn new techniques, hear new tips, and get more experience with different projects.

I’ve set Celtic Solstice aside for a bit. Step 5 took way too long but it’s done now. Catching up with my long time UFO, Razzle, in the meantime…
Razzle is made up of corduroy fabric. I love the fabric. It’s so fun and soft! But not so fun to piece with. There is a LOT of lint and fuzz and I have to clean my sewing machine a lot.
I need 49 of these strips:
Most of them are still at this stage:
But are hanging out at the pressing station:
I’ll be taking time pressing today and will work on getting the other side of that white strip pieced together to the unit.
Here are the blocks that they will be sashing:
Yup, the last time I worked on this project was May of 2014! Time sure flies…

I’m still working on step 5 of Celtic Solstice. It’s as if the pieces are accumulating. But here’s what it is supposed to look like.
I just need a few hundred of them. I’m about 2/3’rds of the way there. Last week I was halfway there. Honestly I may be more than 2/3rds but I haven’t pressed any of them since last week so I honestly do not know how much I have left. The plan is to just chain piece until there are no more blues and then I will press and as I press I will put them in piles of 10 until I get 5 piles and then will combine them into 1 pile of 50. Right now I’ve got 2 piles of 50 all pressed and waiting for step 6.
Work is still crazy and while my big project will be done next week it looks like everything that took a backlog these past couple of weeks will need to be taken care of. I do want to take the last week off as I feel I haven’t spent as much time as I ought to celebrate my birthday. 🙂

Happy Wednesday!
I’ve been spending time putting together Celtic Solstice. I keep thinking I’m on step 4 but I’m really working on Step 5. I think after this I’ll be on the final step of putting everything together. I can’t wait for that day.
Here’s my piecing station with all my parts ready to put together.
And here’s the bits waiting for me to press. I’ve been doing a little bit in each station to help ease the pain of doing one step for too long. I know I’ll need to cut more blue triangles soon but I’m waiting until I really need to. I’m not entirely sure I have enough of the white/orange/yellow combo pieces yet so I’ll cut everything I need when I run out of the blue triangles.
