  • Area One 2012 Mystery Quilt – now that Bonnie’s mystery started for the season, I’m putting this project on the back burner.  I probably will not get started on this again until after Bonnie’s reveal in January.
  • En Provence –  Bonnie’s 2016 Mystery – work on the first clue and play!
    • done!!!
  • Have yourself a quilty little Christmas! – work on the borders.  I picked up the kit when I came back from Colorado but haven’t gotten around to actually doing anything with it.
    • not done!
  • Missing Ivy – I still need to do this but I have to call and schedule time on the long arm.  So that’s the next step.
    • not done

So this week, here’s my target:

Celtic Solstice The sides and bottoms are all done and here it is with all the blocks laid down. 11/28/2016

Celtic Solstice
The sides and bottoms are all done and here it is with all the blocks laid down.
11/28/2016

As I get going on this year’s Bonnie Hunter mystery, I’m also finishing up the top from her 2013 mystery quilt.  This still has a few ways to go since I’ve still got the borders to do.  But I’m going to try to make this my first finish of 2017.  Of course, that means I have to do what I plan to do in December. ;0

Last week’s to do list:

  • Celtic Solstice – attach the right sides (5) and the bottoms (4) and the odd one in the corner (1)
    • done!  woohoo… I can feel the finish coming… 🙂
  • Scrapitude 2016 – Okay so I’ve been very good at getting the first step done as my leaders/enders for Celtic Solstice but since I’ve been back I’m slowly running out of one of the needed pieces for the first step.  I’m not sure if I put away the baggie with these pieces (and I’ll need to look around for them) or if I just didn’t cut enough originally (totally possible) or if Charlotte didn’t tell us to cut enough (I don’t think so because she did make updates throughout the progress and I don’t remember seeing her say anything about this particular piece.  So I need to do some research on this one.
    • Okay so I found the little baggy with the missing pieces.  They fell off the side of my sewing table!  I continued to piece these on as my leaders/enders while I worked on other things.
  • Provence – I need to figure out what the next step is.
    • done!  I laid out my blocks and was wondering how I was to cut my side and corner triangles.  I didn’t see the instructions.  I found them with the cutting instructions (so obvious, right?)!  Anyway I posted about my progress and issues here and now I need to piece the rows together and buy another yard of fabric for the side triangles.
  • Area One 2012 Mystery Quilt – do one of the kits
    • done!  I’ll post an update with pics tomorrow.
  • En Provence –  Bonnie’s 2016 Mystery – Retrieve the first clue on Friday and hopefully have time to get started on it!
    • done!  Well, I haven’t finished the clue but I retrieved it and I got started on it! 🙂

So this week, here’s my target:

  • Celtic Solstice – attach pairs of the 4-blocks together. There will be 12 of them.
  • Scrapitude 2016 – continue working on these as my leaders/enders between other projects.
  • Provence – piece pairs together.

Celtic Solstice 4 blocks 11/21/2016

Celtic Solstice
4 blocks
11/21/2016

Okay. I don’t know what to call this.  This quilt is huge and my previous step was to attach Block A’s and Block B’s into pairs.  After that I attached them into what I called 4-patches even though these are obviously not 4-patches.  So I guess they could be called 4-blocks?  I don’t know but I’ve got all the 4-blocks I need for this top.  The next step is to attach a pair to the right side of 5 of these 4-blocks.  Then attach a pair to the bottom of 4 of these 4-blocks (with one odd one needing a corner piece).  We’re getting close to being done with this top and I’m getting excited.

Bonnie Hunter’s mystery quilt this year starts on Friday and I’ve yet to pull fabric from the stash.  I’m working entirely from my stash for this one right now so I’ll be pulling as I need to.  I still have last year’s in a bin but that one is going to have to wait.  I’ll probably use that one as my next leader/ender project when Scrapitude 2016 is complete.

Here was my list from a couple of weeks ago:

  • I’m heading out of town on Wednesday and I won’t be back until Sunday so I’m not putting anything on my list.  I am taking some hand work and some knitting.

Ha!  That was not a list but I accomplished doing nothing but knitting.

So this week, here’s my target:

  • Celtic Solstice – attach the right sides (5) and the bottoms (4) and the odd one in the corner (1)
  • Provence – I need to figure out what the next step is.
  • Area One 2012 Mystery Quilt – do one of the kits
  • En Provence –  Bonnie’s 2016 Mystery – Retrieve the first clue on Friday and hopefully have time to get started on it!

WIP Wednesday – 4/13/2016

Happy Wednesday!

I finally did it. I took over the dining room.  I did it to hang out with the kids and watch some Criminal Minds.  But I ended up getting distracted, cut one thing wrong and then not doing as much as I normally do.  So I don’t think I’ll be doing it again.

I’m working on Missing Ivy and I am reminded of the bright happy colors and the lovely fabric.  It’s good to work on something different for a change. I’ll get back to Celtic Solstice when I’m in the mood for it. 😊

WIP Wednesday – 4/6/2016

Happy Wednesday!

Now that Scrapitude is done I should be working on Moon Glow.  But I’m not.  Instead, I’ve been doing a bit more on the million pieces for Celtic Solstice.

The current state of my sewing table.

I’ve just been piecing bits at a time.  So I’m only getting bits done at a time and it feels like it is taking longer.  I’ll keep at this until the weekend.  Then I’ll clean up the table and take out Raining Cats and Dogs to put border #2 on.

Monday Madness – 11/16/2015

I made a lot of progress yesterday but nothing really finished.  For Tell It To The Stars, I’m quilting the background first and have gone through two passes on the frame.  I’m actually drawing guide lines to help me make sure I don’t get stuck anywhere.  I’m not yet sure about the middle of the stars though.  I’m going to go back and finish those off once the background is done.  I was wondering if that’s how people do it or do they do thread changes before moving the quilt up the frame.  Let me know how you do it?  This is my first time changing threads and I may end up regretting it later.  For now, it’s an experiment and we’ll see how it turns out.

I cut more scraps for Scrapitude 2016.  I actually went through all my #3 scrap bin and cut all the darks that were large enough.  But I still need more darks.  So I went to bin #4 and pulled out more darks.  These are scraps that were larger than a 5×7 and smaller than a yard.  I pulled a lot of darks so there will be a good sampling in the quilt.

I finished the stem in Raining Cats and Dogs and prepped the next piece.

And finally I pulled out Razzle – this week’s project.  I’m really disappointed.  The white corduroy I bought didn’t match the white corduroy of the quilt.  So now I’ve got a yard of corduroy that I can’t use.  At least not for this project.  Rather than try to get another yard of white corduroy to match, I decided to just make the quilt smaller.  So I’m going to have 4 rows of blocks.  I lined them all nice on my design floor:

As you can see, the sashing isn’t pressed so I went and pressed them.  This week, I’ll be putting the blocks together.

I’m still working on Celtic Solstice! 🙂  This is the week.

I got a little further … I’m working on the first row attaching the third 4-patch to the rest of the row.  But I’m just plugging away.  I know!  Nothing sexy like a finish.  But, it is what it is.  Hopefully I’m inspiring you to plug away at those projects that you’d rather toss in the UFO pile.  🙂

Happy Wednesday!

I’m continuing my work on the block for Celtic Solstice:

If you know Bonnie Hunter, you know there are a lot of these that I have to make.  I’m working on piecing the first two squares of the third row.  The plan is to get these done today and move back to the first row to piece that third square on to the first two squares.  It’s very slow progress since I haven’t spent a ton of time in front of the sewing machine.  But progress is progress and every little piece put together is one more piece towards completion! 🙂

Monday Madness – 11/9/2015

I was not able to get much quilty stuff done yesterday.  I didn’t work on Raining Cats and Dogs.  I didn’t get the practice quilt off the frame and Tell It to The Stars on the frame.  But, I worked a little.  I spent a couple of hours studying.  I went to yoga.  My MIL dropped by unexpectedly.  I went to get a massage.  So, it was a nice relaxing day.  I did get Celtic Solstice out and Hampton Ridge packed up.  I pieced more of the pieces for these blocks:

Not enough to actually finish one but if you break the block into three rows, for the first row, all of the first two pieces are put together and in the second row, all of the first two pieces are put together.  Next up is getting the first two pieces of the bottom row put together.

Short post today. Tonight is SFVQA guild meeting.  Super excited to hang out with quilt ladies (and a couple men) in real life!  I love you guys but you know sometimes this girl needs people she can touch!

Weekend Line Up

Razzle has been the project of the week and I finished piecing the last strip of white corduroy onto the parts I’m putting together.

Razzle Strips 25 done

Well, I do not have enough of these finished strips.  I need about 50 and I’m about 10 shy of 50.  I kept thinking that I must have counted wrong and triple counted everything over again.  And each time, I ended up with 40 completed strips.  I have about 10 half way done.  There was not enough white corduroy included in the kit originally.

Thank goodness that I have the ability to order online and get another yard of white corduroy.  And I discovered this issue at the end of the week, so I can jump on Project #4 a day early and leave Razzle for next month.

The plan for today is to applique the next piece for Raining Cats and Dogs.

And pull out Missing Ivy to work on this week.

Yes, the last time I worked on this was in 2013.  Remember I’m pulling out old UFOs and getting them going again.  I also have Bailey out of the garage and in my living room.  I’m having some technical difficulties on it so I’m not going to do anything with it today.  But I hope to have some time to try to get it to work again tomorrow.  I spent all afternoon on it yesterday and I really want to work with fabric so I’ll be putting off machine work until tomorrow. 🙂

Project Rotation:

  1. backing for Moon Glow / borders for Hampton Ridge
  2. Block A in for Celtic Solstice
  3. Razzle
  4. Missing Ivy

Happy quilting friends! 🙂
