Weekend Line Up

Razzle has been the project of the week and I finished piecing the last strip of white corduroy onto the parts I’m putting together.

Well, I do not have enough of these finished strips.  I need about 50 and I’m about 10 shy of 50.  I kept thinking that I must have counted wrong and triple counted everything over again.  And each time, I ended up with 40 completed strips.  I have about 10 half way done.  There was not enough white corduroy included in the kit originally.

Thank goodness that I have the ability to order online and get another yard of white corduroy.  And I discovered this issue at the end of the week, so I can jump on Project #4 a day early and leave Razzle for next month.

The plan for today is to applique the next piece for Raining Cats and Dogs.

Pack up Razzle, update my project page so I remember where I left off for next month.

And pull out Missing Ivy to work on this week.

Yes, the last time I worked on this was in 2013.  Remember I’m pulling out old UFOs and getting them going again.  I also have Bailey out of the garage and in my living room.  I’m having some technical difficulties on it so I’m not going to do anything with it today.  But I hope to have some time to try to get it to work again tomorrow.  I spent all afternoon on it yesterday and I really want to work with fabric so I’ll be putting off machine work until tomorrow. 🙂

Project Rotation:

  1. backing for Moon Glow / borders for Hampton Ridge
  2. Block A in for Celtic Solstice
  3. Razzle
  4. Missing Ivy

Happy quilting friends! 🙂

My design wall is currently my design floor.  I only need three seems to piece and then I can move onto the borders.

Raining Cats and Dogs! – One of the reasons why I get stuck on a project is because sometimes I forget where I’m at and I don’t have the energy to figure it out and move on.  So, one of the things I’m doing with this project is prep the next piece.  In this case, I actually pinned it down so you can see the tail that I added today.  But usually I’ll just pin it loosely.

Celtic Solstice – With all my complaining last week, I actually got a lot done. I chain pieced and created stations.  That way, if I got bored in a particular station, I could move on to the next.

I had the pressing station, the cutting stations (and succeeded in cutting all the remaining white triangles I needed), the sewing station, and then back to the pressing station, etc.  So, I finished 176 white triangles pieced onto the right side of the HSTs.  I’ve got to finish piecing them and then I start piecing the left sides.  While I’m at it, I’ll start cutting the blue triangles that will be joining this piece.

Stash Report – Week 38, 2015

Nothing in or out!  But a little progress was made on my various projects.  I was able to get the “No Dogs” sign appliqued on to Block 7 of Raining Cats and Dogs.

Here’s a picture of the full block as it is now.  I’m trying to work on this one piece at a time on the weekends.  So today the plan is to get the dog’s tail on.

I was also able to get Hampton Ridge go from 6 rows to 3 rows.  The next step is to get it into 2 rows, then 1 piece!  I’m loving how this is turning out.  Once I get that inner top done, I’ll pull out the border fabric and start working on getting that on.

I worked a little bit on Celtic Solstice too but it’s just a bunch of HSTs and white triangles right now.  I need to be patient because here’s the part where my precision starts to slacken.  This is why I only do a few at a time because after about 20 of these things, they all start to blend together.  I took out the Corduroy Quilt – Razzle – yesterday but didn’t have a chance to actually do anything.  So today I’ll be adding it to the rotation.  Here’s the plan:

  1. At the pressing stations
    1. press the white fabric (because I still need to cut about 50 pairs of the 2″ triangles)
    2. press the random pieces I pieced together as leaders and enders between project yesterday
    3. press the Celtic Solstice pieces that are already have one of the white triangles pieced with an HST
  2. Go through Razzle and see where I’m at
  3. At the cutting station
    1. Cut the white fabric for the 50 pairs
    2. Cut for Razzle if I need to
  4. At the piecing station
    1. piece the white triangles to the HSTs for Celtic Solstice
    2. piece Razzle together.

Here’s the numbers this week:

Used this week: 0 yards

Used year to Date: -47 yards
Added this week: 0 yards

Net Added for 2015: 39.58 yards

Monday Madness – 09/14/2015

My design wall is still not up… not sure when the hubby will get around to it but … it will be up when I need it. 🙂

I took out Hampton Ridge and worked on it a little bit but I’m bored already with it.  I need to start piecing again.  But before I do  that – here’s the project plan for Hampton Ridge:

  1. Finish the inner top:
    • The inner top has 11 rows (really 9 but the end rows have a corner triangle to attach so I’m counting 11).  I’ve already pieced couples together so now I’ve got 6 pieces.
    • The next step is to get the the 6 pieces down to 3,
    • down to 2,
    • down to 1 inner top.
  2. borders
  3. back
  4. label
  5. quilt

Since I need to do something more than piece rows together, I’m going to work on Celtic Solstice at the same time, maybe get some cutting done for Scrapitude 2016. 🙂

I was able to get some work done on Raining Cats and Dogs!

Moon Glow with 2 borders on 9/11/2015

Moon Glow
with 2 borders on
9/11/2015

Despite being laid up this week I was able to get 2 borders on.  The plan is to get the last 2 borders on this weekend.   And hopefully I’ll be able to miter the corners and have the quilt top finished!

Afterwards, I’ll set it aside and work on Raining Cats and Dogs!  I’m not sure if I’ll take Moon Glow out again or if I’ll work on something else but here is the next few steps left for Moon Glow:

  1. Measure the top
  2. Determine how much backing I need and measure the backing fabric I have to see if it is enough.
  3. Embroider the label
  4. Piece the back
  5. Set the top and back aside for quilting. It is now the third quilt ready for quilting. :0
  6. Clear up the bits and pieces of leftover fabric and put it in the various scrap bins I’ve set up for my new scrap system.

If I’ve got time, the next project on my list is Hampton Ridge. So far, I’m being a monogamous quilter; working on one project at a time.  Part of it has to do with my space.  The other part has to do with the part of the project I’m working on.  I was on the border part for Moon Glow.  I had to finish that step before I moved on to another project.  I’m sure when I get to piecing things again, I’ll be able to work on a different project every weekend. 🙂  If I remember correctly (and I might be wrong) I’ve got the rows pieced for Hampton Ridge.  I need to piece the rows together to finish the inner top and then get the border on.  And then get the back together for it.  Then this will be 4th in line for quilting.  ;0

Last time I linked to BOM Away Monday was last June.  Since then here’s a quick update on the projects I highlighted on that post.

Row by Row experience – have not done anything with it.  The kits are in a box in my sewing room and I will get to it one of these days.

Here’s a quick update on my top 4:

Scrapitude – This is ready to be quilted.  I think I need batting but I’ll work on that once Bailey is in the living room and Tell It to The Stars is quilted.

Tell It To The Stars – This is ready to be quilted to.  I’ve got everything!  I just need to trim down the batting and backing and get it on the quilt frame.  Of course, I need to get Bailey and the quilt frame into my living room.

Moon Glow – Working on getting the borders on now.

Hampton Ridge – This is still in my project bag.  I believe the rows are done and all I have to do is piece the rows together.  Then I’ve got to get the border on.  I’m not sure though and will figure it out when I’m ready to take this project out.  With the way my sewing room is set up currently, I can only have 1 project out at a time.  But I think this will wait until the final block for Raining Cats and Dogs is finished.  I want to work on that once the borders for Moon Glow is complete.

Design Wall Back for Scrapitude 6/15/2015

Design Wall
Back for Scrapitude
6/15/2015

The design wall is still the same as it was last week.  I’m still at the same place as I was last week.  I’ve got the idea in my head, the label is done and I just have to sit and do it.

Last week, I worked on Hampton Ridge.  I’ve got the sashes attached to the rows and the red triangles are attached to the ends of each row.  I found an error and I’m leaving it in.  It’s right in the middle of the 5th row.  It isn’t bothering me too much now and I hope it doesn’t bother me later.  So far I can live with it.  I would take a picture but I’ve put it away at the moment.  I’m a little bored with where I am at at each of my top 4 projects and I’m not sure how to move forward.  I think I’m going to start on one of the rows for the Row by Row experience and see how hard it’s going to be for me to actually do it.  If I can get the first one done in a reasonable period of time, I may try to get them done in time for the deadline.

Here’s a quick update on my top 4:

Scrapitude – need to piece the backing.  I’ve got an idea in my head and the label is ready – I just have to sit, cut and do it.

Tell It To The Stars – this needs to be quilted.  I’ve got everything!  I just need to trim down the batting, make sure the back fits perfectly, and then get it on the quilt frame.

Moon Glow – I need to get the borders on.

Hampton Ridge – The rows/sashes are done and I just need to piece the rows together to get the inner top done.  Then it will be time for borders.

Design Wall Back for Scrapitude 6/15/2015

Design Wall
Back for Scrapitude
6/15/2015

The design wall is still the same as it was last week.  I have an idea of how I’m going to put the back of Scrapitude together and it’s just a matter of cutting, piecing, looking at the design, cutting, piecing, and looking at it again.  This will probably take a few weeks but there’s no rush since I’ve got one quilt in line for quilting and this doesn’t have to be done until I’m done with that. 🙂  But it’s on my wall for me to review and change as I see fit.  The label is already done so it really is just cutting and piecing.

I spent most of the past week putting together the rows for Hampton Ridge.  I’ve got all the rows and sashing done and now all I need to do is put them together for the inner top.  I plan to finish the inner top this week.

If I continue with the So Cal Quilt Run through next weekend I won’t be able to quilt Tell It To The Stars until mid July since the 4th is the weekend after.  Once I’m finished putting the inner top of Hampton Ridge together, I plan to get back to Moon Glow.  I need to figure out what I have to do for the borders and then I can get organized and do it.

Hampton Ridge 5/20/2015

Hampton Ridge
5/20/2015

I’m off on my business trip and I’m probably sitting cold in a conference room in Vegas while you read this.  Before I left, I went back to Hampton Ridge and discovered that the sashing and corner stones were cut previously.  So I’ve been working on piecing everything together.  I did get all the rows of sashing done and now I’m working on putting the sashes with the blocks.  I organized myself by putting all the blocks in the order along with pink post its to tell me which row it is in.  I finished the first two rows and I’ve got the third row waiting for me when I get back from Vegas.
